Chapter 277: Chapter 271 Sharing a Bed Together (Part 15)

"Because I was injured, badly injured, I almost never got to see you again." Ji Chicheng lay against the back of the sofa, conversing with Ji Anning with the last bit of consciousness he had.

As he spoke, he suddenly opened his eyes, seemingly regaining a bit of consciousness, and looked at Ji Anning.

Badly injured... Ji Anning was stunned, her mouth gaping open, "How... how..."

"I’m lying to you."

Before Ji Anning could get her words out, Ji Chicheng chuckled softly, cutting her off. He closed his eyes again, a gentle smile playing on his lips, "I just wanted to go abroad, didn’t want to see you anymore... you’re so annoying."

His voice grew fainter and fainter.

Half-believing, half-doubting his words, Ji Anning suddenly remembered something and narrowed her eyes suspiciously, "Uncle, what about the injury on your back... what’s that about?"

"There’s no injury, it’s a tattoo." Saying this, Ji Chicheng reached back, touched it, and repeated as if afraid Ji Anning wouldn’t believe him, "It’s just a tattoo... that’s all."

He was drunk, truly drunk, the words spilling out of his mouth becoming more and more unclear.

"You got a tattoo?" Ji Anning frowned, still somewhat disbelieving. She recalled how her palm felt each and every time it touched the area around his waist, the texture was so distinct, uneven. How could it possibly be a tattoo?

After a moment of reflection, full of suspicion, she looked again at Ji Chicheng, who lay there, half-sleeping, half awake—as if he could hear her if she spoke.

Probably uncomfortable, his brows were tightly furrowed. Ji Anning couldn’t help but reach out toward his brow, wanting to smooth it for him, but her finger touched the screen, the image shifted, and she startled, then, as if waking from a dream, bowed her head and let out a self-mocking chuckle.

She too was holding a phone in one hand and embracing her legs with the other, her head resting on her knees, looking at the man on the screen... who had been her companion throughout her teenage years, filling her youth.

"Do you know, ever since you left, I no longer love doing homework."

"After you left, I wasn’t so eager to go home after school." 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

"After you left, I nearly died. Jingfeng saved me, but I still saved up money hoping to see you, studying English hard."

"But gradually, I got used to pulling open the door in the morning, with no sight of you passing by, and the opposite balcony empty at night..."

"I’ve been trying so hard, just so that one day in the future, I can see you again, at least see you once more."

"When I received the acceptance letter from T University, I wished you were there. I wondered if you would see me in a new light."

The man in the video lay there, his body breathing more and more evenly, obviously, he had fallen asleep.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t have had the courage to utter these words, heavy on her heart, words of confession she wanted to tell him.

...

Even though they’d encountered a dangerous situation, her father’s condition was getting much better. He was willing to let Ji Anning push him out for a walk every morning and evening.

He would also watch other old men play chess in the sanatorium’s park.

Sometimes, when he got engrossed, he would join the debate on the side, even offering advice to chess friends trapped in difficult situations.

Ji Anning sat in the corner of the stone bench, watching her father who couldn’t resist playing chess pieces for others, his posture that of a master. She shook her head, smiling.

After glancing over, she looked down at the phone in her hand again.

"It’s going smoothly."

Just then, Ji Chicheng sent her a message. She looked at the content and immediately responded, "Then when do you plan on coming back?"
