Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 46: Is He Even Human?
Scarlett Shaw withdrew her gaze and didn’t answer.
Instead, Aaron Carson seemed to remember something and asked with curiosity, "The route out of that mountain forest was pretty complicated, and there was a thunderstorm that day. How did you manage to get out?"
"I remembered the way we came in, so I walked back and came out from the entrance."
Scarlett had a good memory and sense of direction, so she had a rough idea of the roads she’d walked. But the weather that day really was bad, which delayed her for a long time. Plus, the entrance and exit of the woods weren’t in the same place, so naturally she missed the bus back.
Aaron looked at her with evident admiration.
Scarlett didn’t say anything else.
But Ryan Ford’s expression noticeably turned cold.
...
After the flight landed in Capitoline, there was a shuttle car at the airport to pick up Julian Ford and Ryan. When Scarlett was about to follow them, Aaron stopped her first.
"Shaw, you take that one."
Aaron pointed at the public shuttle nearby.
Scarlett was a little stunned but quickly replied, "Oh, okay."
That moment of surprise wasn’t because she was shocked to be sent away. On the contrary, after playing around on the plane, That dog Ford kicking her away now was just typical of him. Scarlett just felt a little ashamed of herself for habitually wanting to get on the private shuttle with them.
"By the way, Shaw." Aaron called out as Scarlett turned around, his expression a little awkward. "For regular employees, the company only covers economy class. The fare difference for upgrading to first class—you’ll have to pay that yourself."
"..."
Anything money-related set Scarlett off in an instant. "Upgrading the seat was Julian Ford’s idea. Why does the bill fall on me? It’s not like I wanted to upgrade!"
That upgrade isn’t cheap. Not only did he mess with her, she still had to pay extra? Was he even human?
Aaron’s lips also twitched.
Honestly, he hadn’t expected the boss to be stingy about such a petty amount. Wasn’t this just picking a fight?
The driver of the private car was honking impatiently. Aaron didn’t have time to say much, so he could only remind her kindly, "If you have a chance, maybe talk directly to President Ford. Sometimes, he is pretty reasonable."
Scarlett, fuming, turned and left.
The moment she stepped onto the shuttle, the other colleagues piled in one after another. This time, though, the way they looked at her wasn’t as distant and suspicious as before.
There was quite a bit of curiosity and interest now.
A colleague couldn’t help but ask, "How did you get upgraded to first class and sit with President Ford? How did that feel?"
How did it feel?
All she wanted was to smash a certain someone’s head in, but she just couldn’t seem to take him down. It was so stifling—it’s not like she felt great about it.
Scarlett cursed Julian Ford a million times in her head, but on the surface she still had to pretend to be respectful. "Pretty tense, honestly."
"I heard you even went with President Ford to meet Mr. Barlow for this training. Is President Ford really that impressed by you?"
"Manager Miller wasn’t there. It was an emergency, so I just tagged along last minute."
"Still, you’re so lucky to get close contact with President Ford."
"..."
The envy was obvious in her colleague’s eyes, and people were much friendlier to her as well. Scarlett only responded indifferently—after all, before they left, these were the same people who’d looked at her with suspicion and distance on the bus.
Going with the wind, typical human nature.
Scarlett understood, but she kept her distance.
After getting off the shuttle, Scarlett went to claim her luggage at the carousel. Just as she stepped out of the airport, not far away, she saw Julian Ford and Ryan Ford standing side by side, one after the other, getting into a fancy business car.
With her good memory, she recognized the driver at a glance as someone she’d met before—a long time ago, called Young Master Ford by others.
That is, the Ford family’s driver.
"Isn’t that President Ford? The guy next to him is really handsome too. Could that be The Fords’ Second Son? I heard the Second Son is a real player, never short of women!"
"Why, are you interested by the sound of your voice?"
"Don’t be ridiculous. I just think it’s fun—President Ford and the Second Son are actual brothers, one’s all intense, the other’s a playboy. It’s so interesting!"
The chatter and gossip were nonstop—except for two people who didn’t say a word.
One was naturally Scarlett.
She’d just survived over ten hours of torment, and now all she wanted was to clear her mind. But everyone kept going on and on about those two brothers—there was no peace at all.
The other silent person was Chloe Grant.
Chloe had taken some fever medicine and looked a lot better now. She’d actually messaged Ryan, telling him she wasn’t feeling well. But not only did Ryan show zero concern, he sent a message ten minutes ago that said:
-Did you get Scarlett Shaw stuck out in the wild?
Chloe replied firmly: I didn’t.
That accusation from Ryan just made Chloe’s already uncomfortable mood explode like a powder keg—she was furious.
She really hadn’t expected Scarlett Shaw to be so petty, actually running to Ryan to complain,
Just imagining Scarlett playing innocent in front of Ryan, all fake and manipulative, made Chloe feel stuffed with anger. She squeezed her phone, then loosened her grip, and finally unlocked her screen and opened up the video she’d taken of Scarlett entering Aaron Carson’s hotel room, staring at it like she was thinking hard.
Meanwhile, in the business car—
Ryan Ford sat with his long legs crossed, a smile playing at his lips, coaxing the actress on the other end of the phone, "Can’t come tonight, babe. I’ll see you tomorrow night, okay? Be good."
The woman on the other side was pouting, refusing to let him off. Ryan’s smile faded a bit. "Not listening?"
His voice was still smiling, but with an undertone threatening enough to warn her off her tantrum.
"Okay then, I’ll wait for you tomorrow. You better come!"
"Mm."
Ryan ended the call and looked at Julian. "Going to the hospital to see Mom?"
"Mm."
Ryan said, "Does Dad know?"
Julian crossed his legs elegantly, lounging back in the seat. "Whether he knows or not, it won’t affect what he does."
"Heard from the maids at home that Mom’s checkup all came out fine, but she still insists on staying in the hospital. I’ll just drop in and leave—she doesn’t care whether I’m there or not. But you, are you sure you can get away?" Ryan raised his brows in understanding.
Julian: "We’ll see."
Ryan nodded. "If you need backup, just call me."
Julian: "Yeah."
...
Back in Capitoline, Scarlett easily settled back into her work and life. For days, she didn’t receive any notices from Julian asking her to go to Cloud Mansion, and she was more than happy to relax. She worked even harder at her side gigs.
In the morning, right after the investment department meeting, Scarlett returned to her desk when William Carson walked in and stopped right in front of her.
Scarlett frowned, instinctively keeping her distance.
She hadn’t forgotten his intense act on the bus that day—him trying to prove something for Chloe Grant, making such a scene.
William Carson was a muscle guy, too—his fists were hard as rocks. She couldn’t win in a fight, but she could definitely dodge.
"Sorry for how I acted on the bus the other day, Scarlett."
William Carson suddenly bowed and apologized.
Scarlett was stunned.
What was going on?
William straightened up and looked at her. "I saw Chloe’s post clearing everything up in the group. She said she misunderstood you and blamed you for something you didn’t do."
This surprised Scarlett more than the apology.
Chloe Grant actually did that? 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Scarlett opened WhatsApp and saw the message Chloe had posted in the chat group they used for the training.
