Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Childish or Not

Aaron Carson’s eyelids twitched violently, suddenly realizing he hadn’t explained himself clearly.

He hurriedly explained, "It happened just over an hour ago. Scarlett Shaw was outside freezing all night, her face turned blue, looking really pitiful, so I let her into the room."

Julian Ford’s lips lifted slightly, showing no emotion.

Aaron dared not say more.

Until the video conference ended, nearly two hours passed, and there was still no sign of Scarlett Shaw’s phone in the room. Aaron mentioned it again.

Julian Ford coldly replied, "Is she missing hands or a mouth, that she still needs you to fetch it?"

"I’ll go down later and have her come up."

Aaron appeared calm as he agreed, but inside he was extremely surprised.

The low pressure emanating from Julian Ford was too obvious, even five meters away, one would be frozen into ice shards.

Over the years, Aaron had seldom seen Julian Ford’s emotions fluctuate so visibly, which made him look at Scarlett Shaw with newfound respect.

However, when Aaron returned to the room, Scarlett Shaw was nowhere to be seen.

At that moment, Scarlett Shaw was sitting on the bus rented by the company, heading to a woodland on the local outskirts.

Most of the training days had passed, and the company organized a two-day wilderness survival outdoor team-building activity.

There was no signal in the mountains, the phone was just an ornament, so Scarlett Shaw couldn’t be bothered to worry about the phone left with Julian Ford. She would just get it from Aaron when she returned.

Though named wilderness survival, it sounded more intimidating than it was.

After all, none of them were professional adventurers. The company aimed to train employees’ willpower but, for safety reasons, only set up checkpoints in the mountains. After reaching a checkpoint, each person just needed to sign and stamp their handprint.

The task was simple, but it took a long time to complete, approximately two days, inevitably spending one night in the mountains.

The action was organized in pairs.

For convenience, they were grouped according to room arrangements.

Naturally, Scarlett Shaw was grouped with Chloe Grant again.

However, from boarding the bus, distributing supplies, to setting off into the mountains, finding checkpoints on the route, they didn’t exchange a word.

In the evening, Scarlett Shaw found an open spot to sit down and glanced at the map.

They had reached halfway through the checkpoints today, and the rest should be finished by tomorrow.

After looking over it, Scarlett Shaw put away the map, took out a folding tent from her bag, and said to Chloe Grant, who was sitting a fair distance away playing on her phone, "Come give me a hand."

The tent was shared by both and wasn’t light, something Scarlett Shaw couldn’t handle alone.

Chloe Grant walked over, and as they started supporting the tent together, she suddenly asked, "Where did you go last night?"

Scarlett Shaw didn’t stop her movements, "What’s it to you?"

Chloe Grant, for once, didn’t put on an attitude, just asked blandly, "Running out in the middle of the night, you didn’t go to some guy’s room, did you?"

She indeed did, and ended up getting kicked out pathetically afterward.

Originally, Scarlett Shaw had put this behind her to avoid bothering herself.

But at this mention, the more she thought about it, the angrier she became, as Julian Ford was clearly the epitome of turning against someone without acknowledgment, much like the quick-change performance in Sichuan opera.

"Do I need to report to you where I go?"

Scarlett Shaw showed no kindness to Chloe Grant now.

"But then again, playing the lock-the-door trick with me, Chloe Grant, aren’t you childish, and is this amusing?"

Chloe Grant was silent for a few seconds.

She didn’t continue to argue with Scarlett, instead, she changed the topic, "You heard about my mom’s karaoke bar being shut down, right?"

Scarlett Shaw: "Yeah."

"Could you say something to Ryan Ford, ask him to help lift the closure on my mom’s store?"

Scarlett Shaw didn’t even raise her eyelids, "Why should I?"

Chloe Grant became anxious, "You’re grown so independent now that you can’t even care about your aunt’s wellbeing. Scarlett, you’re well aware that most of my family’s income comes from my mom’s store. Now with it closed, how do we carry on?" 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"If you hadn’t been engaged in illegal activities, who would’ve caught on and shut it down?"

Scarlett Shaw showed no hint of fluctuation.

"We both know what kind of business that karaoke bar was running under the table. Back then, I already had grandma’s money to go to college. If you hadn’t revealed it to my uncle, grandma wouldn’t have had a heart attack and ended up in the hospital. Your mom just seized the chance to make me serve drinks."

Surprise flickered in Chloe Grant’s eyes, "When did you find out about that?"

Scarlett Shaw’s lips curved slightly, "Just now."

Chloe Grant frowned tightly, "You tricked me!"

Scarlett Shaw casually said, "It’s just a reasonable assumption, don’t get so excited; it’s already done. What are you afraid of people knowing about?"

Chloe Grant took a deep breath, saying in a low voice, "I apologize for what happened before. This time, I am pleading for your help, for our family’s sake."

"Ryan Ford and I have broken up. We’re just two strangers now; I can’t help you."

After the tent was set up, Scarlett Shaw dusted off the dirt on her clothes, raised her eyelids, and looked calmly at Chloe Grant.

"But you, since you had such close contact with him, why don’t you ask him yourself for help, wouldn’t that be more advantageous?"

This statement doused Chloe Grant with cold water from head to toe.

It was because she did ask Ryan Ford, which left her in the current situation.

A few days ago, she saw Ryan Ford was also staying at this hotel, so she plucked up the courage to go find him.

She ended up with not just a closed door but also a humiliating message: "If you can make Scarlett Shaw come to ask me, I might still consider helping."

She was left with no way out, having to humble herself before Scarlett Shaw.

Scarlett Shaw: "It’s really useless for you to come to me, Chloe Grant. If I go to Ryan Ford now, it’s just handing myself over humbly. I’m not going to do it."

"Are you sure you won’t go?"

Chloe Grant’s sudden question was laden with hidden meanings.

Scarlett Shaw stared at her, "What else do you want to say?"

Chloe Grant took out her phone from her pocket, tapped on it a couple of times, and threw it in front of Scarlett.

It played a video.

In the video, Scarlett Shaw stood in a silent hotel corridor, knocked on the door in front of her, the door opened, and Aaron Carson appeared on screen, quickly entering the room together.

Chloe Grant had taken this video from a significant distance to avoid detection, showing only visuals with virtually no sound.

But its content was enough to imply to an ignorant bystander that Scarlett Shaw and Aaron Carson had a special relationship.

Scarlett Shaw watched the video, reluctant to speak.

Chloe Grant, thinking she had grasped Scarlett’s weakness and rendered her speechless, smiled smugly, "No wonder you kept appearing at the Cloud Mansion. Turns out it’s not because you found a gold digger, but because you’re merely President Ford’s assistant."

Initially, the idea that Scarlett Shaw had found some backing was quite irritating to her.

But to think it was Aaron Carson.

Aaron Carson was Julian Ford’s personal assistant, frequently coming in and out of the Cloud Mansion. Meeting Scarlett Shaw nearby was no surprise.

"Earlier I begged you humbly, and you refused. Don’t blame me for using special means." Chloe Grant sneered, "If you don’t agree with me, Ryan Ford is sure to see this video when we get back."
