Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Looking for Scarlett Shaw

"Suit yourself, go ahead."

Chloe Grant didn’t expect Scarlett Shaw to react this way; her smile instantly froze, tinged with resentment.

Scarlett Shaw said indifferently, "Whether you send it or not, it won’t change the current situation between Ryan Ford and me; it will just make him more displeased with me, which I don’t care about."

"Not caring about Ryan Ford, fine, but what about your job? If this matter becomes known throughout the company, can you still face staying on?"

"Spreading rumors and slander is illegal. Your house was just seized; if you want to end up in jail, I’m not stopping you."

Scarlett Shaw’s nonchalant, indifferent manner made Chloe Grant even angrier, her face turning the shade of liver.

Scarlett Shaw glanced at her, as if she thought of something, and suddenly said, "If you really want me to help, it’s possible, but I have conditions."

Chloe Grant: "What conditions?"

"It’s the same question: why did Ryan Ford approach me? What was his purpose?"

Chloe Grant pursed her lips and said, "He truly likes you, can’t let go of you. Can’t you see that?"

"Don’t change the subject. I’m asking why, at eighteen, he just so happened to appear when I needed help the most."

Scarlett Shaw stared at her intently, her words pressing.

"The shop was opened by your family, and I was arranged by my aunt. It’s impossible for you not to have coordinated with Ryan Ford in advance."

Chloe Grant fell silent, no longer saying a word.

The conversation between the two ended on a sour note; they never had much chance of reaching an agreement anyway, and Scarlett Shaw was indifferent to it.

She turned around and went into the tent, pulled out a sleeping bag, and crawled inside. Five minutes later, Chloe Grant entered too, crawling into another sleeping bag lying down.

"Did we often sleep together like this when we were kids, always liking to squeeze into the same bed?"

Chloe Grant’s cool voice suddenly sounded in the tent.

Scarlett Shaw acknowledged with a hum, but showed no interest in reminiscing with Chloe at that moment.

Their sisterly bond might have been deep, but Chloe was the first to abandon it; Scarlett had tried to mend it, but when one person isn’t receptive, the approach of the other just becomes exhausting.

Love, friendship, family—and this is how they drift apart.

After a long day, Scarlett Shaw had only slept for two hours in Aaron Carson’s room in the morning and had been hiking in the woods for most of the day. Her eyelids were already drooping, and she quickly fell into a deep sleep.

When she awoke, it was already the next day.

The sky that was sunny yesterday turned gloomy early in the morning, giving off a feeling of impending storm.

And to Scarlett Shaw’s surprise, aside from her clothes, Chloe Grant and all other things, supplies map, flashlights, everything disappeared from the tent.

...

By evening, those who completed the survival task in the wild were gradually emerging from the forest, each tired as a dog, arms and legs barely lifting, and as soon as they boarded the bus, collapsed into deep sleep.

Manager Lynch, who organized the training, shouted at the front of the bus, "Everyone check your companions; are you all here?"

"We’re all here..."

Dragging voices, weak answers.

As the tail of the sound faded, the bus immediately set off back to the hotel.

The passengers were either sleeping or playing on their phones, too tired to talk, and naturally didn’t notice that Scarlett Shaw was missing.

It had been raining for nearly an hour when the bus reached the hotel.

The downpour was heavy, showing no sign of stopping, with the gusto of trying to submerge the city.

A deafening thunder roared abruptly as everyone jumped off the bus and ran to the hotel entrance; even the bravest male colleagues were startled.

"Damn, this thunder is louder than Capitoline’s! Scared my pants off!"

"If you’re scared, just admit it, don’t blame the heavens; the heavens won’t take the fall."

The group laughed and joked as they were about to enter the hotel lobby. A luxury commercial vehicle slowly stopped at the hotel entrance, Aaron Carson came around from the driver’s seat to the back and opened the door, respectfully welcoming Julian Ford out of the car.

The chatter quieted down instantly; everyone held their breath and greeted Julian Ford politely.

Simultaneously, the thunder roared, barely drowning out the human voices.

Julian Ford paused his steps, his gaze casually sweeping over the crowd, glancing briefly before withdrawing his gaze and stepping into the elevator.

Aaron Carson followed in alone.

As the elevator door closed, Julian Ford’s calm, cold voice was heard, "Did she not come to ask you for her phone?"

Aaron Carson paused for a moment; to be honest, he almost forgot about this matter; he didn’t expect the boss not only remembered but proactively mentioned it as soon as he returned to the hotel.

"I didn’t see Scarlett Shaw earlier among the people downstairs; she might have gone back to her room first. I’ll go ask around right away."

After saying this, Aaron Carson glanced at Julian Ford.

The boss’s face remained impassive, still as calm as water, showing no hint of emotion.

Aaron Carson contemplated while stepping out of the elevator, finding Manager Lynch to inquire about Scarlett Shaw’s room number under the guise of work.

When Chloe Grant opened the door and saw Aaron Carson, her pupils trembled slightly, her expression unchanged as she asked, "Assistant Carson, it’s late, is there something you need?"

"I’m looking for Scarlett Shaw."

Chloe Grant’s eyes flickered, "She’s not in the room."

Aaron Carson paused upon hearing this.

Since it was a female colleague’s room, looking for someone late at night is inherently impolite, and pushing further would be quite offensive indeed.

Thus he said, "I have some work-related matters to discuss with Scarlett Shaw. When she returns, please pass along a message for her to come find me."

Chloe Grant gave Aaron a strange look.

She hadn’t expected Aaron Carson and Scarlett Shaw to be so bold, daring enough to sneak away even during training, and playing so wildly.

Even a private meeting is just about sending a message, yet they play it up with an intermediary dialogue game; it really is a thrill.

"Assistant Carson, why don’t you just call Scarlett Shaw, it’s much easier than passing a message. And it’s so late, I’ll likely be too sleepy to remember this when she gets back."

Aaron Carson would like to call, but the problem now is, Scarlett Shaw’s phone is with Julian Ford, and the boss won’t return it directly, waiting for her to ask for it herself.

Of course, this can’t be said out loud.

Moreover, Aaron Carson could distinctly sense Chloe Grant’s tone had a certain deliberate sarcasm.

He furrowed his brow slightly, scrutinizing her.

Being someone associated with Julian Ford, even though polite, Aaron Carson carried a certain air of authority.

Chloe Grant felt a bit intimidated, yawning tiredly, "If there’s nothing else, I’ll rest first."

With that, she slammed the door shut.
