Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 461 - 439: Ian Grant Gets Put in Her Place
Sienna Thornton felt a bit cheerful, her thoughts drifting back to the last time she was on TV: "Two years ago, you advised me not to participate in shows like ’Lawyers Speak’ or take on certain sensitive cases. Actually, you had anticipated this day back then, didn’t you?"
Quentin Thorne neither admitted nor denied it, just smiled.
He looked at his eldest daughter with satisfaction and said, "Annie, trust your father. You will go far and fly high in the future. You don’t have to worry about anything, just do your best."
Sienna understood his unspoken meaning, and a solid feeling filled her heart. The answer to the previous question no longer seemed that important. She nodded, "Don’t worry, I will!"
Quentin later asked if she had the freedom to choose her cases. Upon hearing that she couldn’t, as Director-General Linton directly assigned them, he said he would have a word with Linton, hoping to give her more cases she felt confident with in the early stages, increasing her chances of success.
Sienna was about to discuss this with him when she heard Ian Grant shout from the kitchen, "Dinner’s ready!"
Quentin turned off the TV and patted Sienna on the arm, "Let’s eat! We can talk while eating!"
The two of them entered the living room, with Quentin sitting at the head of the table, while Sienna sat across from Ian Grant.
Ian Grant didn’t look at Sienna the whole time, treating her like she was invisible, and Sienna couldn’t be bothered to acknowledge her, focusing on her meal instead.
Seeing Sienna unfazed in the unfamiliar environment, looking as natural as if she were at home, Ian felt a tinge of anger and shot her a hateful glance.
Quentin caught Ian’s look and sent a glare her way, making her retract her gaze reluctantly.
Sienna kept her head down, eating, completely missing the exchange of glances between the couple, not caring anyway.
The dining room was quiet, everyone consumed by their own thoughts, silently eating.
After a while, Quentin spoke up casually, "Ian, Annie will be staying at home until she gets married, which is less than three months. Take good care of her."
Upon hearing this, Ian immediately let out a cold laugh, "Does she not have a mother? Why should I take care of her?"
"Ian, you!" Quentin was so angry that his face turned red and he slammed his chopsticks on the table, the sound of which made Sienna’s heart skip a beat.
Ian’s hand holding the bowl also trembled slightly.
Sienna looked up at her, "I not only have a mother, but she’s also doing quite well, not living any worse than you are."
After speaking, a smile tugged at the corner of her lips, "You know I’m not someone you can easily provoke, so there’s no need to deliberately anger me."
The remark left Ian speechless. She looked at Quentin with resentment, unwilling to concede, "Look at your daughter! Does she seem like someone who needs my care?"
Quentin shook his head, raising his hands to calm the situation, "Alright, let’s all say less."
Sienna withdrew her gaze from Ian’s face, raising an eyebrow, her lips curling into a cold smile.
She continued to eat.
Ian said no more either.
After a while, Quentin added, "Annie, while you’re staying here, remember to call your mom often; otherwise, she’d be bored on her own."
"I will," Sienna replied, "Auntie King is with her, so she shouldn’t be too bored."
Hearing this, Ian stared wide-eyed at Quentin, "You hired a nanny for that woman?!"
Before Quentin could answer, she put down her bowl, pointed at him with reddened eyes, "I’ve been married to you for over thirty years; have you ever hired a maid for me? Huh? Now a country woman comes to town, and you feel sorry for her? Using my money to hire her help?"
Talking about this really made Ian feel wronged.
Before marrying Quentin, she was a pampered lady who never lifted a finger. Yet after marrying him, she took on all the household chores, handling all the dirty and heavy work herself. Not only was there no nanny, but not even a temporary worker, for fear that neighbors might see and secretly accuse Quentin of extravagance, tarnishing his image of frugality.
Ian always thought of herself as naturally noble, and after managing the household for over thirty years, she was already unwilling. Now that Quentin hired a nanny for a country woman who was meant for rough work, Ian was about to go insane.
After voicing her grievances, she stood up, trembling with anger.
Quentin probably wanted to explain but didn’t know how, recognizing that while Ian was accusing him of hiring a nanny for Melinda, what truly bothered her was that she had been burdened with all the household chores for these thirty years.
She felt she had given everything to this family but hadn’t received the love she expected from Quentin, which was the real reason for her outburst today. The conflict had been festering for a long time.
As Quentin and his wife stood facing each other, Sienna, who had been watching coldly, suddenly chuckled, "The nanny for my mom is paid twenty thousand a month, with an extra two thousand bonus for no days off, making it nearly twenty-two thousand a month."
Ian gritted her teeth and looked over, her facial muscles twitching in fury, ready to explode at Quentin, when Sienna casually added, "But it wasn’t my dad who paid; it was my fiancé."
She slowly lifted her elegant eyes to look at Ian, amused, "Why is it when this is mentioned, you assume my dad was paying? Is it because I can’t earn it, or did I find a pauper who can’t even afford a nanny?"
The man she found was not a pauper but a city tycoon.
Ian was proud and looked down on everyone, naturally also disregarding the Forrester Family. But deep down, she knew the Forresters, though low-key, were genuinely wealthy.
Still, knowing was one thing; looking down was another.
Ian took a deep breath and sat back down.
Though she had a thousand sarcastic comments for Sienna, seeing Quentin’s already darkened expression, she held back, fearing he’d embarrass her in front of Sienna.
The meal left Quentin in a terrible mood, nearly upsetting his digestion.
Ian didn’t feel much better; though she vented verbally, fear lingered that Quentin might confront her later, making her feel anxious once she calmed down.
The one who ate most comfortably was Sienna Thornton.
Before coming to the Thorne Family, she knew Ian would definitely toss some harsh words her way, but she wasn’t afraid; when it came to verbal sparring, Sienna Thornton feared no one.
What she most wanted to avoid was a physical altercation, knowing she’d be at a disadvantage. Ian’s demeanor instantly suggested she’d be fierce and unruly in a fight. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Sienna was slender and didn’t like exercising, so if things got physical, she’d definitely lose out.
However, in the evening, she deliberately provoked Ian, yet Ian didn’t seem inclined to resort to violence.
Sienna felt a little relieved.
