Only I am Venerable-Chapter 34: Watermelon Takes a Master
"What?" they all exclaimed at once. The three from the Qin Family were all very fond of the loyal little fellow.
Qin Li asked, "Where?"
The child pointed east. "He’s over there, just three or four streets away..."
Before the child could finish speaking, Qin Li’s feet barely touched the ground as he shot off in that direction like a wisp of smoke. Qin Xue was only half a beat behind him, vanishing in his wake.
This frightened the tear-streaked child so much that he fell flat on his bottom. After a long moment, he finally asked, "Are they gods?"
Only at this moment did Qin Hanyue fully believe that her son’s strength had surged. Qin Xue was a true second-stage Profound Level warrior, yet Qin Li had been just a hair faster than her!
"Oh, them? They’re just ordinary people!" Qin Hanyue replied, her face filled with pride.
...
After secretly learning the Only I am Venerable Cultivation Technique, Watermelon had thrashed a group of young punks with whom he’d had a grudge. His confidence soared, but he hadn’t expected to provoke the boss behind them. One morning, he was cornered at his own front door. The punks’ boss was a second-stage Yellow Level fighter, which meant he had officially entered a ranked tier.
To a true expert, this was nothing, but in the eyes of these street punks, he was a genuine master!
But the self-taught Watermelon lacked real-world experience. He was taken down in a few moves and brutally beaten by the gang. It was clear they had no intention of stopping. If they kept going, they might just beat him to death.
Watermelon’s parents were held down, and their desperate pleas were useless. It was one of Watermelon’s young followers who saw the commotion from a distance. When no one was looking, he made a break for it and ran for his life to get help. In his mind, Xue was a major figure, countless levels above those thugs. Thugs were naturally afraid of major figures...
Yesterday, Wen the Sixth had been thrashed by Watermelon, a kid he had always trampled underfoot. He was furious. He had no idea when that little bastard Watermelon had become so skilled. Over a dozen of his men had been taken down by Watermelon alone. Then, the kid had stepped on his face and arrogantly declared, "Your turf is mine now!"
There was no way Wen the Sixth could swallow that insult, so he immediately found his boss, Mo Xiao. With his second-stage Yellow Level strength, Mo Xiao was the tyrant of the city’s north side and had several hundred lackeys. Seeing his own subordinate get humiliated, he naturally had to step in.
"You little bastard, why don’t you act so arrogant now! Why don’t you shout at me now! I’ll kick you to death!" A young man with his head wrapped in bandages, his face swollen like a pig’s, was kicking Watermelon’s body with all his might.
Meanwhile, Watermelon lay on the ground, his hands shielding his head and his body curled into a ball. He didn’t say a word, simply enduring the kicks.
"Alright, the kid’s got guts. Just finish him off," a brutish-looking, middle-aged man in his forties said nonchalantly from the side. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"Sirs, I’m begging you, please let my son go! He doesn’t know any better! He’s just an ignorant animal, please spare him..." a middle-aged woman sobbed as several punks held her down.
Annoyed by her cries, one of the punks holding her down slapped the woman hard across the face several times. "Keep screaming and we’ll butcher you right along with him!" he threatened.
Wen the Sixth gasped for breath, wiping a smear of blood from the corner of his mouth—a fresh wound from Watermelon’s recent struggle. He smoothly drew a sharp dagger from his belt and sneered, "Since the boss gave the word, I’ll give you a quick end. You little bastard, remember this in your next life: don’t mess with people you can’t afford to offend!"
This Wen the Sixth clearly had experience killing. The hand gripping the dagger was perfectly steady, his gaze unwavering. He raised the blade and plunged it toward Watermelon’s neck.
"Stop!"
A furious roar suddenly tore through the air, followed by a powerful gust of wind that slammed viciously into Wen the Sixth’s head.
BANG!
A short distance away, Mo Xiao’s eyes flashed. His mouth fell slightly agape, and he stood there in stunned silence. ’How could such an expert appear in a poor place like the city’s north side?’
Before he could even react, Wen the Sixth was kicked in the head and sent flying over ten paces. He didn’t even manage a scream before he collapsed, his legs twitching. He was clearly done for.
This was followed by a rapid-fire series of thuds and cracks as fists and feet met flesh. The punks who had been ganging up on Watermelon were all sent flying.
It all happened in the blink of an eye. By the time Qin Xue arrived, Qin Li was already standing there, calm and composed. Through this little test, and while holding back, Qin Li had confirmed it: all the Martial Arts he had learned in his past life had now become combat techniques!
With the exception of Wen the Sixth, Qin Li had held back against the others. Otherwise, the ground would be littered with corpses, not groaning punks.
Qin Xue knelt, took a small porcelain vial from her robes, and poured out a Healing Pill. She quickly fed it to Watermelon. Seeing him on the verge of unconsciousness, her eyes filled with rage.
"Friend... who are you people?" Mo Xiao had knocked around the north side for years. He could instantly tell that this young man and woman were incredibly tough customers. He didn’t know why they had interfered, but it was obvious he was in deep trouble today.
"This might all be a misunderstanding. Heh heh, I’m with the Qin Family..." In truth, Mo Xiao had indeed provided some intelligence for the Qin Family, but the highest-ranking person he had ever dealt with was merely a steward like Qin Yong. At this moment, however, he couldn’t worry about the details. Saving his own skin was all that mattered.
"The Qin Family?"
Qin Xue and Qin Li glanced at each other.
Thinking he’d found an opening, Mo Xiao couldn’t help but regain a bit of his nerve. "That’s right!" he said loudly. "Is there anyone in Yellow Sand City who doesn’t know the Qin Family? I work for them! So, as for what happened today..."
"What happens today depends on what Watermelon wants," Qin Li cut in, his eyes fixed coldly on Mo Xiao. He spoke slowly, "Stop trying to hide behind the Qin Family’s name. We couldn’t care less."
Just then, Watermelon slowly regained consciousness. He looked up at Qin Xue’s worried expression and tried to smile, but couldn’t quite manage it. "Am... am I dead?" he asked.
"You’re okay now, Watermelon. Don’t worry!" Qin Xue said softly.
Watermelon struggled to turn his head. When he saw Qin Li, he said, "Now... we’re even. You don’t owe me anything anymore... Xue, let them go, okay?"
Qin Li and Qin Xue were both taken aback for a moment. Then, Qin Li saw the deep-seated hatred in Watermelon’s eyes and understood. ’This kid wants to get his own revenge.’ He nodded, then turned to Mo Xiao and his gang. "Get lost," he said. "And don’t ever let me see you again!"
Mo Xiao let out a long sigh of relief. His men hoisted up Wen the Sixth, who was hovering between life and death, and the whole group scrambled away in disgrace.
Watermelon said slowly, "Thank you..." Then he struggled to his feet.
"Watermelon, don’t move!" Qin Xue said urgently.
Watermelon got to his feet and knelt before Qin Xue. "Xue, I want to take you as my master!"
