One Night With A Mysterious Billionaire (The Heiress's Revenge)-Chapter 94: please don’t take her from me
I ran with everything in me, my chest heaving, my lungs burning as if they would collapse any second. I threw open every door in my path, not caring how loudly they slammed against the walls. One after the other, I searched, desperate, frantic, but Lena was nowhere to be found.
Each door revealed something worse than the last.
Some rooms had people inside, some bound, wrists and ankles tied so tightly their skin had turned raw and bruised. Others lay motionless on the ground, too weak to even lift their heads. A few looked like nothing more than bags of bones, their hollow eyes staring at nothing, as though they had already given up on life. It was clear they had been here for a long time.
I didn’t stop.
I couldn’t.
Their eyes followed me as I moved, pleading, begging, silently screaming for help. Some even found the strength to whisper, asking me to free them. But I couldn’t. Not yet. Not until I found Lena.
Every second mattered.
Every second could be the difference between life and death.
I pushed forward, ignoring the guilt clawing at my chest, and made my way deeper into the building. The air grew heavier as I descended, suffocating, thick with the scent of blood and decay.
Then I took a different path, and that’s when I saw him.
Liam.
He was locked in a fierce battle alongside his team, exchanging gunfire with a group of kidnappers stationed ahead. The intensity of the fight alone told me everything I needed to know.
That was where Lena was.
The place was heavily guarded, far more than anywhere else I had searched.
"Damn you, Darius..." I muttered under my breath, anger simmering beneath the surface. "Even in death, you’re still taunting me."
I slowed down and took cover as I approached the fight, my back pressed against the cold wall, listening to the echo of gunshots and shouted commands.
"Liam! How long have you been here?" I called out as I moved closer, staying low.
"Far too long!" he replied without looking at me.
"We managed to get through the other side without much difficulty, but this area, this area is different!"
He quickly reloaded his gun, then stood and fired several shots before shifting positions again. I followed his movement, staying close behind him as bullets whizzed past us.
"Cover me," I said firmly.
"It’s too dangerous!" Liam snapped, grabbing my arm to stop me. "We don’t even know how many there are. Raymond, don’t, " He shook his head, his grip tightening.
"This is the only way," I cut in, my voice low but resolute. "Darius is dead... and he told me Lena is lying in a pool of her own blood."
The words felt like knives in my throat.
"She doesn’t have long."
Liam’s expression hardened, but I could see the hesitation in his eyes.
"I’m afraid," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper. "If I don’t go now... I might already be too late."
He clenched his jaw.
"Damn Darius," he growled. "He left this place heavily guarded on purpose... just so you’d lose someone you love."
For a moment, silence passed between us, heavy, suffocating.
Then he exhaled sharply.
"Alright," he said, pressing his forehead briefly against mine. "We’ll do it your way."
I pulled out the last grenade I had on me, my fingers steady despite the chaos around me. Without hesitation, I pulled the pin and threw it toward the enemy line.
The explosion ripped through the corridor.
That was our opening.
I surged forward immediately, adrenaline taking over as Liam and the remaining members of his team followed behind me, firing relentlessly to clear a path.
Gunshots echoed.
Bodies dropped.
We pushed through.
Then,
A sharp pain tore through my shoulder.
I staggered slightly as a bullet struck the top of my shoulder, blood instantly soaking through my clothes.
"Raymond!" Liam reacted instantly, taking down the shooter with precise shots before rushing to my side. "You’ve been hit! Let me see.."
"Leave it," I snapped, brushing him off. "I’ll deal with it after we find Lena."
Blood dripped down my arm, but I ignored it.
"Focus on survival. Check for anyone still hiding," I added, already moving ahead.
My heart pounded violently as I approached the final door.
This was it.
My hand hovered over the handle for a brief second, fear gripping me tighter than anything I had faced so far. I didn’t know what I would see on the other side, and that terrified me.
But I couldn’t hesitate.
I pushed the door open.
And what I saw nearly destroyed me.
"Lena..."
She lay there, motionless, in a pool of her own blood.
"No... no..."
I ran to her, dropping to my knees as I gathered her fragile body into my arms.
"Oh, baby... baby..." My voice broke. "Oh my God... what did they do to you?"
Her eyes fluttered open slightly, weak and unfocused.
"You... came..." she whispered.
"Yes," I said quickly, holding her tighter. "Yes, I
did."
"I knew you would..." she murmured faintly. "I’m... pregnant... I was going to tell you..."
My heart stopped.
"It’s okay, baby," I said, my voice trembling. "I know."
"You do?" she asked softly, a faint hint of relief crossing her face. "Thank God... I was so worried... that you wouldn’t accept us..."
Her eyes began to close.
"Hey... hey!" Panic surged through me. "Babe, don’t close your eyes! Stay awake, please, stay awake for me!"
Tears blurred my vision as I held her.
"I promise you... I will never let you go again," I said, my words rushing out desperately. "I’ll be there for you, for both of you. I’ll protect you. I’ll do everything... everything..."
I lifted her into my arms and stood up, not wasting another second.
I ran.
I ran like my life depended on it, because it did.
Because hers did.
Because our child’s did.
As I exited the building, Liam was already coming toward me.
"We need to leave now," I said urgently. "She’s losing too much blood."
He didn’t hesitate.
We ran together, moving as fast as possible until we reached the yard.
That’s when we saw Damon and Scarface, arguing.
"I killed more people than you!" Damon was saying.
"Only if we’re counting the ones I injured then yes you did kill more people than me," Scarface shot back.
"Do you want to settle this right now?" Damon challenged, clearly agitated. "Let’s see who’s stronger!"
"If that’s what it takes," Scarface replied, already dropping his gun, preparing for a fight.
"Cut it out!" Liam barked sharply. "Lena needs help!"
That snapped them back instantly.
Damon rushed toward us, all traces of argument gone as he shifted into focus.
"We need to stabilize her," he said quickly. "Lay her down."
We placed her carefully on the ground as he pulled out his medical kit. His movements were fast and precise as he prepared an injection and administered it.
"This will stabilize her until we get to the hospital," he said.
I nodded, unable to take my eyes off her.
She looked lifeless.
Too lifeless.
"Get the helicopter ready!" I ordered.
Within moments, the helicopter roared to life.
Damon and I got in with Lena, while Liam stayed behind to handle the remaining situation on the island.
The flight felt endless.
Every second dragged, heavy with fear.
When we finally reached the city, the hospital was already prepared for our arrival. Doctors and nurses stood by, waiting.
We rushed in, covered in blood, ignoring the stares and whispers around us.
Nothing else mattered.
They took Lena from my arms and placed her on a stretcher before rushing her toward the operating theater.
And just like that,
She was gone from my sight.
I was forced to stay outside.
Damon paused briefly before going the other way to.prepare before he joins them
"Don’t worry," he told me firmly. "We’ll save her."
Then he disappeared behind another door.
Silence fell over the hallway.
My legs gave out beneath me, and I dropped to the floor, my hands clutching my hair as everything crashed down on me at once.
All I could do now...was wait.
The wait was unbearable.
All I could think about was how I was the cause of everything that had happened to her. If I had protected her like I promised, this wouldn’t have happened. If only I had arrived a day earlier... maybe, just maybe, things would have been different.
I blamed myself endlessly.
I should have asked her what she wanted to say when she called me. I should have listened more carefully. My hands flew to my face as the full weight of the situation crashed down on me.
Lena was in there... fighting for her life because of me.
I couldn’t take it.
If anything happened to her, I wouldn’t survive it.
"God... please don’t take her away from me," I prayed silently, my chest tightening. "I promise I’ll do better. Just... Please don’t take her away like you did my mother."
Time lost all meaning after that.
I didn’t know how long I sat there, completely still, lost in guilt and fear. I didn’t even notice when Sylvia, Mama, and Bertha arrived.
All I knew was that someone gently took my hands and held them tightly.
"Don’t worry," she said softly. "She will be alright."
But I couldn’t respond.
I just sat there, motionless.
Hours later, the theater doors finally opened.
I shot to my feet.
"Doctor... how is she?" I asked urgently. "Is she alright?"
