Chapter 83: Lena have been kidnapped

.

Sylvia, Liam, and Damon drove silently as they went to the restaurant Lena was last seen. They had their hopes high, hoping they would see her and this would just be that she was out for air, not what they were imagining. The tension in the car was suffocating, each of them lost in their own thoughts, silently praying that this wasn’t as bad as it seemed.

Soon, they got to the restaurant, and they all came down. Roman, who sighted them, began to walk towards them, his expression grim, and that alone made Sylvia’s heart sink.

"Did you guys locate her?" Liam asked immediately they got close, his voice urgent, betraying the anxiety he was trying so hard to suppress.

"I’m afraid no," Roman said, shaking his head slightly. "I asked around at the restaurant, and they confirmed she came here indeed. They said it seems she was waiting for someone."

They all looked surprised because they all knew she didn’t have any friend.

"But she doesn’t have any friend, so who could she have been waiting for?" Sylvia voiced out, confusion and worry evident in her tone as her brows furrowed deeply.

"That is where it gets weird," Roman continued.

"They said she waited before she ordered. She told them she was waiting for someone, and one of the waiters said she was all smiles and giddy at first. But as time went by, her countenance changed.

She kept on calling the person over and over, even when they went to her several times requesting if she was ready to order something."

Roman paused briefly, letting the weight of his words sink in before continuing.

"As the person never came, she had to order, but even till late into the evening, the person never came. He said that was when she reluctantly paid for her meal and left."

"That is strange because I know Lena does not have any family members she still talks to," Sylvia said with her hands on her chest, her voice laced with unease. The more she heard, the worse it felt.

Roman pointed at the camera on the road. "That camera there has her entering a taxi immediately she came out from the restaurant. We have collected most of the CCTV cameras on the road, and we would be going through them. My men are already on it. We are already running the taxi plate number, and we would trace the taxi. Hopefully, we would find her."

He glanced at all of them before adding, "You are welcome to join. Maybe you can see someone that is suspicious in the hotel or out front. I believe if this is a kidnapping and someone baited her to come out, then the person wouldn’t stay far from the restaurant, watching her to make sure his or her plan is going well."

"And lastly, please someone should call Mr Black and tell him before he has our heads when he comes back," Roman added. Sullivan, who had just joined them, nodded in agreement.

"I don’t think we should keep this a secret anymore. We have already established the fact that she had been kidnapped. It would be wise if Mr Black is alerted," Sullivan added calmly, though the seriousness in his tone was unmistakable.

"Who is going to tell him? Because I don’t think that would be me," Sylvia said quickly. She was not ready to face Raymond’s fury, not even a little.

"No, me either. Don’t look at me," Damon said almost immediately, raising both hands in defense.

"The last time I tried to talk to him about treating Lena well, he almost had my head, insinuating I was in a secret relationship with her. If this comes from me, I’m sure he would say I’m the person Lena was waiting for. Hell, he might even say I have something to do with her kidnapping, and I’m not ready to die yet."

He shook his head firmly. "Raymond is one man even I don’t want to cross, so I’m not making that call."

Then they all turned to Liam.

"What? Me? Hell no," Liam said immediately, pointing at himself in disbelief. "He is going to say it was my carelessness that is the reason she was kidnapped. Even though it has nothing to do with me, he would surely find a way to blame me. I don’t want to be punished.

Why not the person who is actually responsible for Lena call him? After all, if he had been doing his job, Lena wouldn’t have been kidnapped," Liam said, looking directly at Sullivan.

Sullivan didn’t even flinch. "Well, Mr Black dismissed me from her tail a long while back, so he has nothing on me. But you are his personal assistant, his second-hand man. You are literally his voice," Sullivan said, staring right back at Liam.

"I wonder what Mr Black would say when he finds out about this from someone else. He is not only going to deem you incompetent, he is also going to blame you for what happened," Sullivan continued with a slight shrug. "Or you can call him and avoid that, and tell him how far you have gone with the investigation, thereby showing him that you never sat idle. It’s your choice."

Their eyes all landed back on Liam as they watched him in anticipation, waiting for his decision.

Liam sighed deeply and raised his hands in surrender. "Fine, I will call him."

With that, he took out his phone, his fingers hesitating for a brief second before he dialed the number. It rang once... twice... and they all stood in anticipation, the silence stretching unbearably.

Then Raymond picked the call.

"I travel for a few days, and you are calling me in the middle of the night. Don’t tell me you have burnt down the company," Raymond’s voice came through the receiver, calm yet carrying an underlying warning that made all of them go suffocatingly quiet.

Liam cleared his throat but couldn’t say anything at first. The words seemed stuck.

"Did something happen while I was gone?" Raymond asked quietly, his tone changing, sharper now.

"Yes, something did happen, Raymond, and I don’t know how you would react when you find out, but I still have to tell you anyway," Liam said, forcing the words out.

"Spill it, Liam. I’m not very patient. What happened?" Raymond asked, his voice turning cold, as if he already sensed something terrible had happened in his absence.

Liam closed his eyes briefly, exhaled, then dropped the bombshell.

"We don’t know yet, but we think Lena has been kidnapped."

There was a brief silence on the other end.

"What do you mean kidnapped? I spoke to her only a few hours ago," Raymond said, his voice dangerously low.

"Yes, she has been missing since yesterday evening, and this is almost morning. We have searched everywhere for her. Roman has practically combed the entire city, and we can’t find her.

We managed to find the restaurant she was last seen. We found out she was waiting for someone from the waiters, but the person never came, and she left sad and got into a taxi. But that was the last time she was seen," Liam said, the words rushing out now.

He exhaled again before adding, "We are currently running the plates of the taxi. Hopefully, we will have a lead. Don’t worry, Raymond, we would find her." 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

"You said she was waiting for someone, correct?" Raymond asked.

"According to the information we gathered," Liam responded.

"Look into that person first. Try and get access into her phone and find out the last person she called," Raymond said. There was a pause before he added,

"And I will be back later tomorrow. I need to confirm something. Till then, don’t stop searching for clues."

With that, he ended the call.

The moment the call disconnected, the tension in the air remained thick, almost heavier than before.

"Why didn’t you tell him she was pregnant?" Sylvia asked.

They all turned to her like she had suddenly grown two heads. Everyone knew the minimal exchange before Raymond cut the call was because he was trying to contain his anger, and no one wanted to be the one he unleashed it on.

So, you can imagine why they were looking at Sylvia like she was completely insane.

**********

Raymond cut the call, and his hands froze midair. His anger surged, and he threw the phone to the floor, where it crashed into pieces.

"Fuck, fuck... fuck, not again!" he screamed, dragging his fingers through his hair.

"I’m going to kill them all if a single speck on her head is missing," Raymond said maniacally, laughter spilling from his lips as his eyes turned bloodshot.

"She is mine, and I think it’s time I remind people what I do to those who dare touch what belongs to me," Raymond added coldly.

His chest heaved violently, rage consuming every ounce of restraint he had left inside.
