Chapter 13: Chapter 13 — Thirteen

Serena’s POV

"Why are you still half-naked?" I blurted out.

Alexander chuckled as he folded arms, arching his brows. "Why don’t you tell me, Serena? You knocked on my door at six in the morning. What exactly were you expecting?"

I bit my lips, scratching my head awkwardly. He sort of had a point but I’d not let him know that I agreed with his words.

"I was not thinking." I finally said, burying my face into my palms. This was so embarrassing.

His voice dropped lower. "I know. You were panicking." He said gently, and I raised my head to look at him.

"Can you please put on actual clothes now?" I pleaded with him. I couldn’t have a decent conversation with him when he was half-naked.

"But you have seen all of me. Does it make sense for me to put on something decent now?"

His tone was filled with teasing and my eyes widened. I never expected that a billionaire would have such a teasing side to him.

My face heated and I swallowed. "Alexander..." I drew out, my tone filled with pleading.

He chuckled. I knew he was enjoying himself.

"Turn around again." He instructed, and I did so instantly, nearly stumbling over my own feet.

A few minutes later, Alexander’s voice drifted over to me. "Alright. You’re safe now."

I turned slowly, making sure that he was telling the truth.

My shoulders relaxed after seeing that he was fully clothed. I didn’t know if it was me, but I thought I saw a flicker of disappointment flashed through his eyes.

"Alexander, what do we do about my clothes crisis?" I asked. This was more important. "There is no way your clothes would fit me. There has to be some other way."

Alexander was quiet for a while as he rubbed his chin in deep thoughts. Suddenly, he clicked his fingers as though an idea flashed through his eyes.

"I’ll have someone deliver some clothes to you. You only need to remain calm and everything will be sorted out."

"Thank you." I said sincerely. What could I have done without him?

He nodded and walked to the vanity table. Picking up his phone, he swiftly typed into it. I wasn’t sure of the details of what he typed but I believed it was regarding this issue.

"You can go to your room. I’ll let you know when they’ve arrived." He said to me, and I left without hesitation. I was practically fleeing.

Once I was in the room, I exhaled slowly, trying to steady myself. This morning has been one hell of a rollercoaster.

I heaved a sigh and it struck me. My phone!

I searched around the room, and my brows furrowed. I didn’t bring it along. Maya would have been trying to get through to me.

This was f*ckex up. Perhaps, when I was properly dressed, I’d borrow Alexander’s phone.

Feeling bored, I looked around and found a notebook. My eyes lit up and I began drawing. I didn’t know how much time passed when I got a knock on the door.

"You may come in." I said without raising my head up.

The door creaked open, and I could tell that Alexander was the one who walked in without raising my head.

"What are you doing?" He asked.

As expected. I muttered under my breath. "Sketching." I answered, and finally raised my head up.

"Your clothes have arrived." Alexander said to me and my shoulders dropped in relief. I could see two bags in his hands, and I raised my brows.

"Thank you. You’re a huge lifesaver." I said to him as I rose to my feet.

"I can think of better thank-yous, you know." He teased me and I stared at him pointedly. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"Just kidding. You can freshen up. I’ll be waiting downstairs." After he finished with his words, he left the room, not after dropping the bags on the bed.

I looked into the bag and my eyes widened seeing the brand of clothes bought. There was no doubt I’d be the talk of the office if I wore such clothes.

I coughed slightly as I brought the dress out. I didn’t wish to wear it but I didn’t have any other choice.

About twenty-five minutes later, I was fully dressed. There were also earrings and footwear in the bag. Alexander really went out of his way for me.

I took one last look in the mirror, smoothing my hands down the fabric. The silk clung lightly to my waist, soft and cool against my skin.

The dress fit like it was tailored for me—of course it did. Alexander wouldn’t settle for anything less than perfect, even in an emergency.

Taking a steady breath, I made my way downstairs. I wasn’t sure what scared me more — facing the office dressed like this, or facing him.

Alexander was waiting in the living room, seated comfortably on the couch with his phone in hand. His gaze lifted the moment he heard my footsteps.

For a second, he froze.

His eyes swept over me slowly, deliberately, like he was memorizing every detail. The air stretched thin between us, and I fought the urge to tug the hem of the dress nervously.

"You... clean up well," he finally said.

It wasn’t a compliment. It was an assessment. And somehow that made my stomach flip even more.

"Thank you," I muttered, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.

Why was he doing so much for me? It made me feel... seen. And that was dangerous. I shook my head to get rid of the thoughts.

He stood, slipping his hands into his pockets. "Hope everything fits."

"It does," I said. "Perfectly."

He nodded once, then tilted his head slightly, studying my face.

"Are you okay?" He asked, and I breathed out.

"I didn’t come with my phone. I’m sure Maya would be worried about me." I said to him while twisting my fingers.

"Would you like to use my phone to let her know you are okay?"

I thought about it for a while before I shook my head. If Maya knew that I was at Alexander’s place, she would not let me hear the last of it. It would be better if I talked to her when I arrived at the office.

"Don’t bother. I would talk to her when I reach the office."

"Then, let’s get going." He said and pushed himself to his feet.

Confusion flickered in my eyes as I stared at him.

"What are you trying to do?" I asked carefully, doubt could be heard in my voice.

"We are going to the office, together." Alexander said without batting an eyelid.

My heart dropped. He wasn’t joking.
