On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 165: A Sense of Familiarity
After a moment, Chloe Sterling said, "Take a guess?"
Faith Morrison raised an eyebrow. "Really? Don’t tell me you’re actually not related to the Sterling Family."
Chloe Sterling smiled. "I wish that were the case."
Realizing the topic might upset Chloe Sterling, Faith Morrison quickly added, "Sorry, I shouldn’t have brought that up."
"It’s fine. I stopped caring a long time ago."
Phoebe Sinclair stormed back to her car and snapped at the driver, "Drive!"
The driver jumped, not daring to say another word as he immediately started the car.
At first, Phoebe Sinclair hadn’t dared to approach Jasper Lockwood again, but the memory of what she had just seen made her burn with indignation.
’Just because Chloe Sterling married Jasper, even Faith Morrison is fawning all over her. And now, because of her, I’m not even invited to the Orchid Labs product launch anymore.’
Phoebe Sinclair’s hands clenched into fists, her hatred for Chloe Sterling deepening. She suddenly remembered what Silas Coldwell had told her the first time they met.
’"Nocturne Group offers assassination services."’
’Even if I can’t have Jasper, a woman like Chloe Sterling doesn’t deserve to be with him.’
After much thought, Phoebe Sinclair finally made her decision. "To Nocturne Group," she told the driver.
The driver froze, as if he’d misheard. "Miss, where did you say we’re going?" he asked.
Phoebe Sinclair’s voice was frigid. "Nocturne Group. Do you understand?"
"Y-You want to go to Nocturne Group? Miss, I’m afraid I can’t do that."
"What? Are you telling me what to do now?"
"Miss, Chairman Sinclair ordered me not to let you get near anyone from Nocturne Group. I can’t take you there."
Phoebe Sinclair’s expression flickered. "When did my father ever say that?" she demanded.
"Chairman Sinclair knows what’s on your mind. He guessed you might try to contact Nocturne Group, which is why he gave me strict orders beforehand to never let you go near them. Miss, the head of Nocturne Group is not someone to be trifled with. Even President Lockwood can’t touch him. You really can’t afford to provoke him."
"The fact that even Jasper Lockwood can’t touch him is precisely why he’s the right person to go to."
"If Silas Coldwell were going to harm someone close to President Lockwood, he would have done so long ago. Miss, have you ever considered why he hasn’t made a move?"
Phoebe Sinclair looked at the driver. "What are you trying to say?"
"It means Silas Coldwell is wary of President Lockwood. He won’t make a move rashly, so going to him would be pointless." After a pause, the driver added, "Chairman Sinclair also said not to worry. The title of Mrs. Lockwood will be yours sooner or later."
Phoebe Sinclair looked astonished. "My father really said that? He told you?"
The man was Phoebe Sinclair’s personal bodyguard and driver and was always with her. "Chairman Sinclair told me himself," he said. "You’ve been sulking and refusing to see him lately, so he told me to pass this along once you’d calmed down."
Hearing this, Phoebe Sinclair smiled. "Daddy really does dote on me the most."
"Of course. You’re the apple of Chairman Sinclair’s eye. I’m sure he’s already planning things for you behind the scenes. Miss, you really don’t need to do anything."
Be that as it may, Phoebe Sinclair still couldn’t stand the thought of Chloe Sterling being by Jasper’s side. She couldn’t tolerate it any longer; she just wanted her to disappear.
’But I can’t let my father know about this,’ she thought. After a moment’s consideration, Phoebe Sinclair said, "Then never mind. Let’s go home."
’I’ll just find Silas Coldwell by myself later,’ she planned, ’and sound him out.’
「Back at the Sinclair estate.」
The first thing Phoebe Sinclair asked Mrs. Sinclair was, "Mom, where’s Dad?"
"Your father went to the office and isn’t back yet. What is it?"
"There’s something I want to ask him."
"What is it? Why not tell your mother?"
Looking at her mother, Phoebe Sinclair asked, "Mom, is Dad really scheming for me to marry Jasper?"
Mrs. Sinclair smiled. "Of course. And I can tell you this: a marriage alliance between the Sinclair and Lockwood families is inevitable. That country girl will be run out of Crestfall before you know it."
Phoebe Sinclair was both surprised and confused. "Really? Mom, do you know something? Why didn’t any of you tell me?"
"The time isn’t right yet." Mrs. Sinclair took her daughter’s hand. "Don’t ask any questions for now. I promise you, I will make you the wife of the President of Lockwood Group. I’ll also make Jasper Lockwood apologize for what he did to you."
Phoebe was speechless for a moment, seeming not to quite believe it.
Reading her daughter’s mind, the woman laughed. "What? You don’t trust your mother? Back then, nobody believed I could become the wife of The Sinclair Group’s president, but I did it anyway. And I’ve held this position for over twenty years."
Hearing this and recalling her mother’s methods, Phoebe’s belief grew. Her eyes lit up, and the corners of her lips curled into a smile. "Mom, I trust you."
Mrs. Sinclair smiled. "That’s my girl."
After leaving Orchid Labs HQ, Chloe Sterling went to the martial arts school.
Asher White and his sister had already moved out of the White family home and rented a place near the school. While six million was a lot of money for an ordinary person, it still wasn’t enough to buy a house in Crestfall.
Asher White said, "Actually, renting is pretty good. We still have a lot of cash on hand. When I start earning money, I’ll buy my sister a big house, a huge villa."
Chase Langdon chuckled. "You’ll have to work hard for that."
Asher’s youthful face was full of determination. "I will."
Noticing Chloe Sterling walk into the school, Asher immediately called out, "Ms. Chloe, you’re here!"
"Yes." Chloe walked up to him. "Are you all settled in?"
Asher nodded. "All settled. Master, Ms. Chloe, thank you. I’ll definitely repay you both in the future."
Chloe Sterling smiled. "How’s your sister?"
"She’s much better after taking the medicine you gave her. Ms. Chloe, can my sister’s hand really make a full recovery?"
’My sister loves the piano so much. If her hand doesn’t heal, she’ll regret it for the rest of her life.’ The thought made Asher’s heart ache.
"It will," Chloe said. "Don’t you trust me?"
"No, that’s not it!" Asher quickly waved his hands. "I’m just worried. And scared."
Chase Langdon patted his shoulder. "Don’t worry. Your sister’s hand will definitely make a full recovery."
Asher looked at the two of them and nodded firmly. "Okay."
「Before long, it was Saturday.」
Chloe Sterling met up with Ava Rhodes at a coffee shop.
"Chloe, I never expected you to ask to see me. I’m so happy. Have you... have you changed your mind?"
"I have," Chloe said. "I can give it a try, but I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to solve Apex’s problem."
"I understand. Of course, no one can guarantee that. Just being willing to try is enough." After a pause, Ava Rhodes added, "Chloe, even though we’ve only met a few times, I feel this strange sense of familiarity with you. I trust you. I’m sure you can do it."
Staring at the woman’s face, Chloe was momentarily lost in thought. "A sense of familiarity?"
"Yes. I know we’ve never met before, but I felt it the very first time I saw you."
Seeing Chloe remain silent, Ava added, "I’m not just saying that because I want you to help my husband. I genuinely feel this way."
Chloe said softly, "I know."
In truth, she felt it too, but she knew that for her, the feeling stemmed from Ava Rhodes’s face.
