On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 166: My Boyfriend Is Waiting for Me
"Are you an only child, Ms. Rhodes?" Chloe Sterling asked suddenly.
"No," Ava Rhodes replied, a hint of sadness in her eyes. "I have two older brothers, and a twin sister."
"You have a twin sister!" Chloe Sterling feigned surprise.
"Yes, but... but we haven’t seen each other in a long time. I don’t even know where she is."
"Why?"
"Because I can’t find her." As she spoke, Ava Rhodes’s eyes reddened slightly. She paused, then forced a smile. "It’s just some family business, I shouldn’t be talking about it with you. Chloe, thank you so much for agreeing to help."
Chloe Sterling said, "Don’t thank me yet. I’m not sure if I can solve it either."
Ava Rhodes: "It’s enough that you’re willing to try."
Chloe Sterling glanced at her phone and thought for a moment. "Can we go over now?"
"Yes, of course," Ava Rhodes said happily. "My husband is home right now. He’s the one who encountered the problem, so you can talk to him directly."
"Then let’s go."
"Okay."
The two of them got up and left the coffee shop.
An hour later, they arrived at an old residence—a traditional courtyard house.
Ava Rhodes explained, "This is my husband’s ancestral home. It’s a bit old, but it’s full of his memories. He’s quite fond of it, so we’ve been living here ever since we returned to the country."
"Mm," Chloe Sterling acknowledged. "It doesn’t matter if a house is new or old. What’s important is that it’s comfortable to live in."
"Exactly," Ava Rhodes said with a small smile. "Let’s go inside."
The two entered the house. Charles Sterling was on the sofa, reading a medical book. His brows were slightly furrowed, as if there was something he couldn’t quite figure out.
As if sensing someone had entered, he immediately looked up, and the two women came into view.
Ava Rhodes chuckled. "Charles, look who I brought."
Charles Sterling looked at Chloe Sterling, his face showing surprise. "It’s you!"
Ava Rhodes said, "Her name is Chloe. Coincidentally, Chloe’s surname is also Sterling. She’s here to help us."
Charles Sterling’s gaze shifted to Ava Rhodes’s face. He hadn’t realized she had gone behind his back to help him again.
Ava Rhodes smiled and added, "Chloe, please, make yourself at home. I’ll go cut some fruit for you both. Charles, please keep Miss Sterling company."
Charles Sterling stood up. "Miss Sterling, hello."
Chloe Sterling said coolly, "Hello, President Sterling."
Ava Rhodes: "You two have a seat. I’ll go make some tea and cut some fruit."
Charles Sterling gestured to the sofa. "Miss Sterling, please have a seat."
Chloe Sterling walked over and sat down.
Ava Rhodes went to the kitchen.
Charles Sterling sat back down on the sofa and looked at Chloe Sterling. "I didn’t expect you to suddenly change your mind, Miss Sterling."
"You have a good wife, President Sterling."
Charles Sterling glanced at Ava Rhodes’s retreating figure, his handsome face filled with tenderness. "Yes, I do have a good wife."
Chloe Sterling noticed the medical book on the coffee table and asked directly, "What kind of problem have you run into, Mr. Sterling? Is it related to pharmaceuticals?"
"That’s right, it is related to pharmaceuticals. This year, we developed a new psychiatric drug and made a major breakthrough, but we’ve also run into a problem..."
Ava Rhodes poured tea for them and placed a plate of cut fruit on the coffee table. She then sat down next to Charles Sterling to listen to their discussion. Though she didn’t understand the topic, she hoped the problem could be solved.
After listening to Charles Sterling’s explanation, Chloe Sterling understood the problem he was facing. It was indeed a difficult one to solve.
Charles Sterling continued, "Lately, I’ve scoured all sorts of pharmacology texts and medical books, but I still haven’t been able to find a solution. That’s why I wanted to find Lynn Chester. It’s just that she’s so mysterious. You always hear about her, but she’s incredibly hard to find."
Chloe Sterling nodded. "I understand. But this problem can’t be solved overnight. I’ll need to think about it carefully. Also, would it be possible for me to see the drug’s formula? Of course, you have my word, President Sterling. I won’t breathe a word of it to anyone."
After a few seconds’ pause, Charles Sterling said, "Alright. Please wait a moment." With that, he stood up and walked toward the study.
Ava Rhodes said, "Chloe, have some fruit."
Chloe Sterling glanced at the beautifully cut fruit on the table. There were many small forks placed around the edge of the fruit platter. She picked up a fork, speared a piece of cantaloupe, and popped it into her mouth.
Ava Rhodes smiled and added, "Chloe, why don’t you stay for dinner? What kind of food do you like? I can have the chef come over and prepare it."
"No, thank you. I have something to do later."
"But isn’t it Saturday?"
"My boyfriend is waiting for me."
"Oh, I see," Ava Rhodes said with a smile. "Then I won’t keep you."
Charles Sterling returned with a sheet of paper and handed it to Chloe Sterling. "This is the complete formula."
Chloe Sterling took it. The paper was covered in handwritten characters—strong, vigorous, and quite beautiful.
"Did you just write this, President Sterling?"
"Yes, but rest assured, there won’t be any mistakes. I was personally involved in this research."
Chloe Sterling nodded. "I understand. I’ll go home and think about it. If I come up with a solution, I’ll contact you, President Sterling."
"Okay." After a pause, Charles Sterling added, "If you can help solve this problem, Miss Sterling, I will be sure to reward you generously."
Chloe Sterling put the formula away and then stood up. "In that case, I’ll be heading back now."
Ava Rhodes stood up with her. "Leaving so soon? Is your boyfriend already waiting?" 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Chloe Sterling: "Yes."
Charles Sterling: "In that case, I’ll have someone drive you, Miss Sterling."
Chloe Sterling: "No need, I drove myself."
Seeing that Chloe Sterling was a person of firm principles, the couple didn’t say any more and saw her to the door.
Watching the car recede into the distance, Ava Rhodes murmured, "I hope Chloe can help solve this problem."
Charles Sterling looked at her and asked softly, "When did you go see her again? How many times did you hit a wall?"
"I didn’t. She agreed to help me right away. Actually, I think she’s a good kid. She might seem a bit cold, but I can tell she’s a good person at heart."
Charles Sterling chuckled. "What, are you starting to want a daughter again?"
Ava Rhodes lightly patted his chest. "Don’t be ridiculous. By the way, are you still meeting with people from the Sinclair and Rivers families tonight?"
Charles Sterling’s smile faded, and his eyes darkened. After a moment, he said, "I’ll be back early."
Ava Rhodes grasped his hand. "Charles, I’m a little worried. Do you really have to team up with the Sinclair and Rivers families? The Lockwood Family is incredibly powerful. They won’t be easy to deal with."
Charles Sterling said, "I originally wanted to approach the Lockwood Family, but as you know, Jasper Lockwood refuses to see me. If I want to make a name for myself in Crestfall, I have to ally with one of the local powers. Besides the Lockwoods, that only leaves the Sinclair and Rivers families. So I have to choose them."
"But..."
Charles Sterling squeezed her hand. "Don’t worry. I won’t get directly involved in their secret struggles. I’ll just be giving them some support."
"I heard the President of The Sinclair Group, Tristan Sinclair, and the President of Lockwood Group, Jasper Lockwood, are good friends. Why would he plot against his friend behind his back? And isn’t Mrs. Rivers the adopted daughter of the Lockwood Family? She wants to plot against them too?"
