Chapter 164: Chapter 164: Evenly Matched

"However, if you want her to come and make a fool of herself, I can arrange that too," Faith Morrison added.

Chloe Sterling took a sip of her coffee. "No need. Out of sight, out of mind."

’With her status, she wouldn’t dare do anything to me.’

’Open attacks are easy to dodge, but it’s the hidden daggers you have to watch out for.’

Through the incident with Claire White, Chloe had seen the true colors of the Lynch sisters, Rose and Ruby. One was cold-blooded, the other was vicious. They really were cut from the same cloth.

Perhaps that was why she’d left that home so long ago—because she never fit in with them.

Just as Faith Morrison was about to say something, her assistant’s voice came from outside the office.

"Miss Sinclair, President Monroe has a guest. You can’t go in—Miss Sinclair... You can’t go in..."

"Get out of my way!"

As Phoebe Sinclair’s voice faded, the office door was thrown open. Ignoring the assistant’s protests, Phoebe burst in.

The assistant looked cautiously at Faith Morrison. "I’m sorry, President Monroe. Miss Sinclair insisted on coming in. I couldn’t stop her."

Faith Morrison glanced between them and said coolly, "You can go now."

The assistant nodded and left.

Faith Morrison fixed her sharp gaze on Phoebe Sinclair, her tone icy. "What can I do for you, Miss Sinclair?"

But Phoebe Sinclair’s eyes were fixed on Chloe Sterling. "What are you doing here?" She then turned to Faith Morrison, a sneer in her voice. "So this is your guest?"

"What does that have to do with you?"

"Hah..." Phoebe Sinclair scoffed. "Faith Morrison, I thought you always prided yourself on being so aloof and principled. And now you’re friends with *this* kind of woman? What’s the plan? Trying to use her to cozy up to the Lockwood Group? You’re certainly flexible when it suits you."

In previous years, Orchid Labs had always invited Phoebe Sinclair. She was used to it and never paid the brand much mind. However, she recently learned that Serena Lockwood loved Orchid Labs and desperately wanted next year’s limited-edition new product. So, she planned to secure this year’s release and had already told Serena she would gift it to her.

But then, Orchid Labs suddenly didn’t invite her this year. That meant she couldn’t order the new product, which made her lose face in front of Serena.

That’s why she’d stormed into Faith Morrison’s office to demand an explanation. The last thing she expected was to find Chloe Sterling here.

’Cozy up to the Lockwood Group?’

Faith Morrison glanced at Chloe Sterling, her expression puzzled. Because of their secret marriage, she had no idea Chloe was the rumored Mrs. Lockwood.

Before she could even process this, Phoebe Sinclair spoke again. "Do you really think Jasper Lockwood married her because he likes her? She’s nothing but a tool he used to get the shares he wanted."

At these words, Faith Morrison was utterly stunned.

’The woman Jasper Lockwood married is Chloe!’

’Her business partner was the rumored Mrs. Lockwood!’

’This girl really knows how to keep a secret!’

’No wonder Phoebe thought she wasn’t invited to the launch party because of Chloe. It’s a classic case of rivals in love.’

Faith Morrison quickly composed herself. Looking back at Phoebe Sinclair, she smiled. "You’re reading too much into it. Not inviting you was my decision, and it has nothing to do with Chloe. Besides, I doubt Chloe even gives you a second thought. After all... you don’t even qualify to be a ’tool’."

Phoebe Sinclair’s face fell. She sneered, "Sucking up to some country bumpkin... aren’t you afraid of embarrassing the Morrison Family?"

Faith Morrison scoffed. "We Morrisons make friends based on chemistry, not like you, who looks down your nose at everyone!"

Phoebe Sinclair may have had the Sinclair Family behind her, but the power backing Faith Morrison was not to be underestimated.

In Crestfall’s circle of wealthy heiresses, the two were considered equals.

Phoebe Sinclair’s face turned ashen with anger, but she didn’t continue the argument.

’Orchid Labs’s immense popularity over the past two years was largely due to its mysterious Perfumer, whose fragrances were exceptionally unique. If that Perfumer were to leave Orchid Labs, she’d love to see if Faith Morrison could still act so smug!’

Phoebe Sinclair had wanted to poach that Perfumer for a long time. This incident only strengthened her resolve.

She let out a cold snort and stormed away.

Faith Morrison locked the office door, then walked back and stared intently at Chloe Sterling. "Mrs. Lockwood, what’s going on?"

Chloe Sterling said nonchalantly, "You’ve already figured it out, haven’t you?"

"How did you get together with Jasper Lockwood? I’ve heard he’s incredibly aloof. Is your relationship really just a deal?"

Rumor has it that Jasper Lockwood only married to get his hands on Old Master Lockwood’s shares, and that his wife was just part of the deal.

Faith Morrison found it hard to imagine two such cold people actually dating. A business deal seemed much more plausible.

Chloe Sterling remained silent, her mind drifting to the moments she had shared with Jasper Lockwood.

Seeing her silence, Faith took it as a confirmation and exclaimed in astonishment, "You actually dared to make a deal with Jasper Lockwood? Wow, you’ve got some nerve!"

Chloe Sterling suddenly smiled. "What’s wrong with making a deal with him?"

Faith Morrison said with grave sincerity, "Chloe, I know you don’t really follow the powerful families of Crestfall, but you must know what kind of man Jasper Lockwood is. With his status, power, and methods... you can’t win against him."

Chloe Sterling raised an eyebrow. "It seems Jasper Lockwood’s reputation among the other families isn’t very flattering."

"Think about it. The Lockwood Group is a massive empire. For him to defeat all those old foxes in his twenties and claim the top seat shows just how capable—and ruthless—he is." 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"..."

"But even the greatest heroes fall for a beautiful woman. No matter how formidable a man is, he can still be brought to his knees by a woman." Faith Morrison smiled and added, "You’re so beautiful and exceptionally talented. Maybe one day Jasper Lockwood will actually fall in love with you."

The corner of Chloe Sterling’s mouth twitched into a small smile as she changed the subject. "Why didn’t you invite Phoebe Sinclair?"

Faith Morrison’s eyes narrowed, a chill in their depths. She didn’t elaborate, saying only, "Because she’s done too many terrible things. I consider her bad luck."

Seeing that she didn’t want to talk about it, Chloe didn’t press the issue. "She didn’t look like she was ready to give up. If she gives you any trouble, let me know."

Faith Morrison laughed lightly. "Oh? Are you going to have President Lockwood take care of her?"

Chloe Sterling said calmly, "That won’t be necessary."

Faith Morrison gazed at Chloe Sterling, suddenly feeling as if she didn’t know her at all.

They had met by chance three years ago. Back then, Faith had thought she was just a girl from the countryside with a remarkable talent for perfumery. She hadn’t cared about her background and had eagerly become her business partner.

From that day on, Chloe Sterling became the mysterious Perfumer of Orchid Labs.

Then, a year ago, she had suddenly transformed into the long-lost eldest daughter of the Sterling Family. And now, she was the wife of the president of the Imperial’s top conglomerate.

"Chloe, are there any other identities you’re hiding from me?" Faith Morrison asked abruptly.

Chloe Sterling: "..."

"I suddenly feel like I don’t know you at all."

Chloe Sterling took another sip of her coffee and said slowly, "We’ve known each other for three years, but we haven’t seen each other much. It’s only natural that you don’t know me very well."

Faith Morrison suddenly leaned closer, staring at her face. "So, are there any other identities I don’t know about?"
