On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 138: A Fox Will Always Show Its Tail
「Crimson Wing Dojo.」
Chase Langdon was on the phone with a lawyer.
Chloe Sterling walked over but didn’t disturb him. She waited until he hung up before asking, "Is that a lawyer for Claire White?"
"Yes," Chase Langdon said. "We need a good lawyer to make the driver pay dearly. We might even be able to unmask the person behind this in the process."
He felt this wasn’t so simple. ’How could it be such a coincidence?’
Chloe Sterling also felt something was off, but the investigation hadn’t turned up anything concrete.
"By the way, I’m heading out to see my apprentice and his sister in a bit. Want to come with?" Chase Langdon asked.
"Apprentice?" Chloe Sterling raised an eyebrow. "Are you really planning to take that boy on as your formal disciple?"
"Yeah. He’s a bit old to be starting, but he’s got good potential, just like you. And starting in his teens isn’t too late."
Chloe Sterling nodded. "Alright, let’s go together."
Just as the two were heading out, Jean Kensington arrived.
"Hm? Are you two going out?"
Chase Langdon said, "Yeah, Chloe and I are making a trip to the hospital. We’ll be back in a bit."
"Why the hospital?"
"To see my apprentice’s sister, Claire White."
"Claire White?" After a moment’s thought, Jean Kensington looked at Chloe Sterling and said, "Is that the girl you asked me to look into, the one who was in the car accident?"
Chloe Sterling replied, "Yes, that’s her. If you’re free, want to come along?"
"Sure. The baby is still with my uncle, so I’m free."
And so, the three of them went to the hospital together.
Claire White’s complexion was much better today.
Seeing the three of them, she smiled and greeted them, "Mr. Langdon, Miss Sterling, you’re here. And this lady is...?"
Chloe Sterling said, "This is my friend."
Claire White looked at Jean Kensington and smiled. "Hello. Miss Sterling is so beautiful, and her friends are just as lovely."
Jean Kensington said, "My name is Jean Kensington. Just call me Jean."
"Okay." After a pause, Claire White added, "You really don’t have to keep visiting me. I’m fine."
Chase Langdon said, "I came to tell you something. I’ve already found a lawyer for you. He’s going to file a lawsuit with the court today."
"Today!" Claire White said, surprised. "So soon! But what do I do? I can’t leave the hospital."
Chase Langdon: "You don’t have to appear in person. You can just entrust everything to the lawyer."
Claire White: "Is that allowed?"
Chase Langdon: "Yes."
Just then, the door to the hospital room was pushed open again. A 14-year-old boy walked in, his eyes bright. "Master, Ms. Chloe, you’re here!"
Chase Langdon looked at the boy and smiled. "We are."
"Master?" Jean Kensington glanced from the boy to Chase Langdon. "Is that what all the students call you now?"
Chase Langdon: "No, only my formal disciples. Yesterday, I officially accepted Asher White as my first formal disciple."
Jean Kensington: "...Is there a difference between that and a regular student?"
Chase Langdon: "Of course. It’s a huge difference. I will pass down my life’s work to my personal disciples."
Jean Kensington: "I see."
Chase Langdon added, "Don’t worry, I’ll teach the baby well too. He can be my second disciple in the future."
Jean Kensington chuckled lightly. "Okay."
"Mr. Langdon, is there anything I need to do?" Claire White asked.
Chase Langdon said, "The lawyer will be here this afternoon. You just need to sign the power of attorney. Can you sign with your other hand?"
Claire White: "Yes, no problem."
After thinking for a moment, Jean Kensington suddenly spoke up. "Claire, the timing of your accident is just too coincidental. Do you have any... particularly unfriendly rivals in the competition?"
Hearing this, Claire White froze, clearly a little surprised. After thinking it over, she said, "No, I don’t think so. It must be a coincidence. No one would harm me like this over a competition, right?"
"You can’t be so sure." After a pause, Jean Kensington added, "Could it have been Esther Sterling?"
"Esther!" Claire White, unaware of the relationship between Esther Sterling and Chloe Sterling, replied instinctively, "How could that be possible! She has no reason to. Besides, Esther is a really nice person. How could she do something so horrible?"
"But I heard you’re her biggest competition."
Claire White gave a wry smile. "I suppose so, but my being there doesn’t affect her at all. Director Sheffield values her, and President Sinclair also thinks highly of her. She’s the most likely to win first place, so she has absolutely no need to do this."
At her words, Jean Kensington frowned slightly. "Tristan Sinclair thinks highly of Esther Sterling? Are you sure?"
"Of course," Claire White answered with certainty. "President Sinclair not only defended Esther at the competition, but when she was injured, he immediately came to the venue to deal with the person who framed her. Everyone says... everyone says President Sinclair likes Esther. So she doesn’t have to worry about a thing, and she has no reason to hurt me."
"Impossible! He’s not blind!" Jean Kensington refused to believe it. "If he liked Esther Sterling, why would he have thrown her out of the hotel during her own birthday party and utterly humiliated the Sterling Family!"
Hearing this, Chloe Sterling suddenly spoke up, "Esther Sterling was thrown out by Tristan Sinclair on the day of her birthday party?"
Jean Kensington: "Yeah. And before he kicked her out, he made a phone call to a certain someone."
Chloe Sterling understood that "a certain someone" referred to Jasper Lockwood. ’So he did something like that,’ she thought.
Claire White looked surprised. "Really? Jean, do you know President Sinclair? Then why did he kick Esther out?"
"I... don’t know him. I just have a relative who works for President Sinclair. As for why he kicked Esther Sterling out, he probably just couldn’t stand the sight of her."
After watching her for a moment, Claire White said suddenly, "Jean, do you have some kind of grudge against Esther?"
Jean Kensington: "I just can’t stand her, that’s all."
Claire White bit her lip and said softly, "But Director Sheffield and President Sinclair really do seem to value her. We all saw it with our own eyes. And she’s very nice to people. I don’t think everything you read online about her is necessarily true."
She had heard about Esther Sterling’s past troubles but hadn’t paid much attention at the time, so she didn’t know that the person Esther had slandered was Chloe Sterling.
In fact, from their interactions during the competition, she thought Esther Sterling was actually a decent person.
Jean Kensington: "You know their face, but not their heart. Girl, you’re just too naive."
Claire White: "..."
Chloe Sterling spoke up, "Let’s stop the guesswork. We’ll let the lawyer handle it for now."
Chase Langdon said, "Exactly. If it wasn’t a coincidence, the fox will show its tail eventually."
Just then, a woman’s shrill voice suddenly came from the doorway. "Why is it you people again? What are you doing here now?"
Hearing her stepmother’s voice, Claire White’s expression darkened, and her tone grew colder. "What are *you* doing here?"
"What do you think I’m doing here!" The woman strode in, her tone scornful. "Do you really think these people are helping you out of the kindness of their hearts? Who knows what kind of schemes they’re plotting!"
Claire White said coldly, "Not everyone is like you, with only money in their eyes."
The woman laughed. "If not for money, why would they help you? Just to be good Samaritans? Do you even believe that yourself? Claire, there’s a limit to how naive you can be."
