On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 137: No One Can Take Her Away
"Are you sure?" Jasper asked again.
"I’m sure," Chloe answered confidently, her right hand secretly reaching for the pulse on her left wrist.
Noticing her subtle movement, Jasper lowered his gaze to her hands. He said nothing, simply waiting for the results.
A moment later, Chloe lifted her gaze. A flicker of embarrassment crossed her eyes as she said again, "I’m sure."
’It really was a false alarm.’ She slowly let out a breath of relief.
Seeing her relax, the light in Jasper’s eyes dimmed. ’She seems pretty happy she isn’t pregnant.’
Chloe slipped out of his embrace and sat up straight, turning to gaze at the city lights outside the window.
Although it was late, all of Crestfall remained brilliantly lit. Cars wove through the streets and pedestrians hurried along, showcasing the hustle and bustle of a major city.
Soon, the car pulled into Lockwood Manor, and it was like entering another world of luxury.
Chloe felt a little dazed. Without realizing it, she had been living here for several months. It had been nearly a year since she’d come to Crestfall, and in that time, her life had been turned completely upside down.
Her feelings for her family had gone from expectation to disappointment, and finally to despair. Her relationship with Jasper had gone from an accidental encounter to a flash marriage, and now to a life together she was slowly growing accustomed to.
And all in less than a year.
"Chloe." Jasper’s voice sounded beside her.
Chloe snapped back to reality. "Hm?"
"We’re here. What were you thinking about?"
Chloe looked at the open car door and cleared her throat. "Nothing, I’m just a little tired." With that, she stepped out of the car.
Jasper followed her out. "Then you should get to sleep as soon as you get to our room."
Chloe nodded. "Okay."
The two of them entered the villa. As Chloe headed for the elevator, Jasper suddenly stopped. "You go on up. I have something to take care of."
"You have to work this late?"
"It’s just a small thing. It won’t take long. You go ahead."
"Well, good night then."
"Good night."
Chloe went upstairs.
Jasper turned and went to the study.
"Any news?"
Henry Chamberlain closed the study door. "Not yet. There’s too little information to go on, which makes the search difficult. Besides..." He paused. "I believe Madam’s master is intentionally hiding their identity to avoid being found."
Jasper frowned slightly. "Nothing at all?"
Henry shook his head. "No. Since this person is Madam’s master, their skills must surpass even hers. If so many people can’t find Madam, finding her master will likely be even more difficult."
After a moment of silence, Jasper spoke again. "Have any other factions discovered that Madam is in Crestfall?"
"No. Right now, it’s just Silas Coldwell and Charles Sterling. They’re the only two searching for Madam with any real intensity." He paused, as if a thought occurred to him, then added, "Sir, you’re not thinking of... making a move against both of them, are you?"
Jasper shot him a cool glance. "I don’t have that kind of time!"
’Making a sudden move against Apex Group would be as good as telling him Lynn Chester is here, which would expose Chloe’s identity.’
’It’s not that he’s afraid of Apex Group, but since Chloe doesn’t want her identity revealed, he’ll naturally help her keep it hidden.’
Henry gave a nervous laugh and blurted out, "That’s good. I was just worried you were about to fly into a rage for a woman’s sake..." He trailed off, shutting his mouth instantly when he felt the death glare from his boss.
Jasper gazed out at the night sky. "If anyone dares to take her from my side," he said softly, "I won’t just fly into a rage. I’ll start a massacre."
Henry: "..."
’It was like seeing that cold, terrifying boss from the past all over again.’
After a silent moment, Jasper’s lips parted. "You may go."
"Yes, sir. Please get some rest." Henry turned and left the study.
Jasper’s deep eyes stared quietly at the distant night sky. ’Chloe belongs to me. No one can take her away. Not even she herself.’
「At the same time.」
In another villa, Silas Coldwell was also awake. He sat with his long legs crossed, leaning lazily against the sofa. He held a wine glass, his deep eyes fixed on a point in the empty air.
Zane Stratton walked over. "Boss, it’s so late. Aren’t you going to sleep?"
Silas swirled the red wine in his glass, brought it to his lips for a sip, and then asked, "How is that matter I asked you to handle?"
Zane’s expression shifted slightly. He lowered his head and said, "It’s... not going smoothly."
Silas lifted his gaze, his eyes sharp. "Not smoothly?"
Zane braced himself. "The woman said that while she likes Jasper Lockwood, she doesn’t want to bother him or force anything. She... she just wants to watch him from afar."
Silas’s brows furrowed, and he sneered. "Pathetic."
Zane looked up, confused. "But didn’t you say you didn’t want to resort to such methods?"
Silas: "I just didn’t want to help that Qin woman sicken Lynn Chester. That idiot is useless for anything important anyway!"
After a moment’s hesitation, Zane asked cautiously, "Boss, do you... actually like Miss Chester? Or is this just about getting her to join the Nocturne Group for the new R&D project?"
Silas’s thin lips pressed into a line. He didn’t answer.
’He’d been cold and unfeeling since he was a child. Whatever he wanted, he would use any means necessary to seize it. He had to have it. Whether he actually *liked* it was never important.’
’Lynn Chester was no different. From the moment he met her, he wanted to conquer her, to possess her. But he couldn’t deny that she made him feel different—unlike anything he’d ever fought for before. He desired to possess her, yes, but he also admired her. He admired her talent and her abilities.’
’As for whether he *liked* her...’
’Isn’t a man’s desire to conquer and possess a woman a form of liking?’
Seeing his boss remain silent, Zane added, "Or... are you not sure yourself?"
Silas’s sharp eyes were filled with a cold light. His tone was casual, yet chilling. "Are you curious?"
A chill ran down Zane’s spine. "No," he said at once. "I... I just remembered I have something to take care of. I’ll be taking my leave."
Silas took a sip of his wine, paying him no further mind.
Zane immediately slipped away.
「The Lockwood Residence.」
Chloe lay in bed, wide awake, her beautiful eyes staring quietly at the night sky outside the window. Scenes from the past year flashed through her mind, replaying everything that had happened between her and Jasper.
’The final image was of him saying he only wanted one person for his entire life.’
’And then him asking, *And you?*’
’I do too,’ Chloe thought.
「The next morning.」
They had just stepped out of the elevator when Jasper’s phone suddenly rang. He pulled it from his pocket, glanced at the screen, and answered, "Hello?"
Chloe couldn’t hear what the other person was saying, but she could faintly make out a woman’s voice.
Jasper’s expression was serious. "I understand. I’ll be there as soon as I can." He hung up and turned to her. "Chloe, I can’t stay for breakfast. I have to go."
Chloe: "Isn’t it the weekend? What’s so urgent?"
"The situation is... unusual. I have to go deal with it right away." He then ordered Henry, who was standing nearby, "Get the car ready."
Chloe just hummed in acknowledgment and said no more.
Watching the man’s hurried departure, she bit her lip in frustration.
