On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 54: Deer Blood Soup
It was now the dead of night.
But I stood awkwardly in the room, my expression troubled as I stared at the only bed in the bedroom...
’We’re not going to have to sleep together, are we?’
’And there’s only one blanket...’
The mere thought of sleeping in the same bed as Sebastian Forrest, under the same blanket, made me want to back out.
"How about... you... you go sleep in another room?"
Sebastian Forrest scoffed in exasperation and pointed toward the door. "Do you really think my Third Aunt would let you leave? She has people guarding the door right now. Where do you expect me to sleep?"
"Huh?" Utterly shocked, I quickly walked to the door, turned the handle, and pulled it open.
"Miss Chelsea, is there anything else you need?" Standing at the door was an old woman with a kind smile—it was none other than the old housekeeper of the Forrest Estate.
"Er... no, thank you..."
I quickly shut the door, my back pressed against it, still reeling from the shock.
’What... What is going on?’
’Why is there a guard at the door?’
A mocking smile touched Sebastian Forrest’s lips. "Right now, the person in the entire Forrest Family who wants us to be together the most is my dear Third Aunt..."
"Why?"
Just as I was wondering about this, I saw Sebastian Forrest tug irritably at his collar, his face rapidly turning a visible shade of red.
"Senior Forrest, what’s wrong with you?" I hurried toward him.
"You’re asking me?" Sebastian Forrest shook his head and let out a helpless laugh, shooting me a resigned look. "Weren’t you the one who insisted I drink that soup?" 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
I blinked, confused. "What was wrong with that soup?"
"That was a soup made with deer blood. It’s a potent... aphrodisiac!"
He practically spat out the last word through gritted teeth.
I froze for a second, then felt my cheeks instantly flush hot.
’This... this... How could this happen?’
I instinctively took half a step back, consciously putting some distance between myself and Sebastian Forrest.
I knew about Deer Blood Soup. For a man, its effects were almost equivalent to an aphrodisiac.
Back when I was trying to get pregnant, I once tricked Theodore Grant into drinking it, but it didn’t seem to have any effect on him.
I later asked a doctor and found out that for someone like Theodore Grant, who had oligozoospermia, things like deer blood were useless. But for a normal, healthy man, it was a completely different story...
"Then... then what do we do?" I couldn’t help but panic a little.
’I’m in the same room as Sebastian Forrest. What if the soup takes effect and he loses control... unleashes his inner beast...’
Sebastian Forrest gave me a helpless look. His Adam’s apple bobbed, and his voice was low and raspy, almost gravelly, yet incredibly magnetic. "Just stay put. I’m going to the bathroom."
Hearing that, I nodded frantically.
As I watched Sebastian Forrest turn and go into the bathroom, I finally took a deep breath and fanned my face with my hand, feeling the heat in my cheeks recede a little.
And just then, the sound of rushing water came from the bathroom.
I was a divorced woman, no longer some naive little girl. I naturally knew that Sebastian Forrest must be taking a cold shower.
After all, deer blood is an ingredient, not a drug. Once some time passes, the energy will be absorbed by the body.
Once the heat in his body subsides, he should be fine.
With that thought, I began to relax. Just then, my phone suddenly vibrated. I quickly pulled it out and saw it was a message from Chloe Miller, so I hurriedly opened it.
[Are you asleep? You’re not actually sleeping in the same bed with Master Forrest, are you?]
The message from Chloe Miller was as improper as she was, but her line about ’sleeping in the same bed’ had unwittingly hit the nail on the head.
My face grew hot again. I dishonestly sent her a selfie and then replied, [I have my own room.]
But just as I sent the message, a very low, muffled grunt came from the bathroom.
I’m not some innocent little girl who doesn’t understand anything. The moment that sound hit my ears, it felt like something had exploded in my mind.
’Se... Sebastian Forrest... he’s... he’s...’
The bathroom’s soundproofing was terrible. The man’s voice carried clearly to my ears.
His heavy panting mixed with the sound of the rushing water, and an image that made my face burn and my heart pound involuntarily appeared in my mind!
I quickly covered my ears, but it was useless. The low panting still drilled into them like hooks.
I don’t know how much time passed, but I faintly heard a noise from the bathroom behind me. Before I could even react, a wave of humid air, carrying the scent of shower gel, washed over me.
"What are you doing? Muttering some kind of prayer?" Sebastian Forrest asked, amused, as he took my wrists and pulled my hands away from my ears.
I instinctively turned around, only to find myself looking straight into a pair of deep, smiling eyes.
"I... I was reciting my lines for a voice-acting job..." I quickly took a few steps back, pulling my wrists from his grasp.
"Is that so?"
Sebastian Forrest chuckled, bending down slightly to look at me. "Come on, tell me. What were you reciting?"
Sebastian Forrest’s towel was loosely tied, revealing his defined chest and the faint outline of his abs. Perhaps he hadn’t bothered to dry off at all; shimmering water droplets trickled down the grooves of his pectoral muscles, tracing over each distinct block of muscle before finally disappearing into his sexy V-line...
I quickly averted my gaze. "Today, the people are impoverished and the soldiers weary, yet the campaigns cannot cease. If the campaigns cannot cease, then the costs of remaining garrisoned and of marching out are the same. To not plan for this now, but to desire to contend with the enemy for a long time with the lands of a single province—this is the sixth matter your humble servant fails to comprehend."
Sebastian Forrest was taken aback, apparently not expecting me to actually recite it for him.
"Alright, don’t waste your brain cells. It’s been a long day. Let’s go to sleep."
As I watched Sebastian Forrest turn and walk toward the large bed, I couldn’t help but feel anxious.
There was only one large bed in the bedroom, and nothing else—not even a sofa or a bay window to sleep on.
And now that it was late autumn, the nights were already quite cold. I couldn’t possibly sleep on the floor.
But asking Sebastian Forrest to sleep on the floor felt impossible...
Which meant that the two of us could only sleep together in the large bed.
"What’s wrong? Why are you just standing there? Come on, time for bed." Sebastian Forrest lifted the covers and got into bed. Seeing me still frozen in place, he patted the mattress and smiled at me. The way he did it wasn’t at all like an invitation to bed; it was as casual as someone commenting, ’The weather’s nice today.’
"What? Afraid I’ll lose control in the middle of the night and take advantage of you?" Sebastian Forrest seemed to have thought of something. He raised a brow, his voice lazy and magnetic, yet laced with a teasing, intimate amusement that could make one’s ears tingle.
That was exactly what I was worried about, but hearing him say it so bluntly actually made me less afraid.
After all, it had been a while since he drank the Deer Blood Soup, and just now in the bathroom, he’d already... you know...
’He should be fine now.’
"Then... I’ll sleep over here..."
I took my pillow to the foot of the bed, carefully lifted a corner of the covers to get in, and occupied only the very edge, terrified of touching Sebastian Forrest.
"Okay. I’m turning off the lights, then. Good night..." A slight smile played on Sebastian Forrest’s lips, his voice a bit raspy. "Little junior."
