On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 47: Too Ashamed to Show My Face
I froze, then realized Sebastian Forrest was referring to our previous agreement for ’mutual help.’
"Of course." I nodded eagerly. "When are we going?"
Sebastian Forrest shot me a wry glance. "What’s this? Not afraid I’ll sell you off anymore?"
His tone left me at a loss for how to respond. I just stood there awkwardly with the cotton swab in my hand, unsure whether to lower it or keep it raised.
"Don’t worry, I couldn’t bear to sell you," Sebastian Forrest joked.
"Senior Forrest..." I started, feeling a little awkward. "If there’s no rush, could we do it on a weekend?"
’After all, I’m still just an intern. It wouldn’t be good to ask for time off so often.’
"I can do that." Sebastian Forrest smiled. "Is this weekend okay?"
’That soon?’
"What’s wrong? Are you busy?"
"No," I quickly shook my head. "I have time."
"Alright, I’ll have someone book the flights. We’ll leave early Saturday morning, stay one night in Varden, and fly back Sunday afternoon."
"Okay."
Once the time was set, a quiet stillness settled over the sun-drenched living room.
I was still holding the cotton swab, and when I couldn’t help but look up, I found Sebastian Forrest’s eyes fixed on me.
To avoid the awkwardness, I quickly dropped my gaze and started rummaging through the first-aid kit for gauze to wrap his wound.
"What are you looking for?"
But just then, Sebastian Forrest leaned in close. His warm breath brushed against the back of my ear, and a jolt like an electric current shot up my neck, making my ears instantly flush hot.
Uncomfortable with the closeness, I tried to pull back. I completely forgot I was sitting on a chaise lounge with a gap behind it. My body tipped backward with the momentum. In a panic, I flailed, trying to grab onto something. Suddenly, a strong arm shot around my waist, pulling me sideways as we both tumbled directly onto the sofa.
Our ragged breaths mingled in the air. The faint scent of sandalwood invaded my senses. I raised my flustered gaze, only to lock with a pair of eyes as deep as an abyss. My hand was pressed flat against his lean, solid chest. Even through the fabric of his shirt, I could feel its intimidating hardness.
"Senior Forrest."
"Hm?" His low, magnetic voice vibrated through me like an electric current, sending a tingle straight to my ear.
I quickly braced my hands against his shoulders, my face burning with embarrassment. "Y-You can get up now."
But the force of my push didn’t budge him an inch. Sebastian Forrest just gazed down at me, his long lashes fluttering like raven feathers. The play of light and shadow only served to define his sculpted features, making his eyes appear even deeper and darker.
"Little one..." he murmured. Sebastian Forrest suddenly dipped his head, his hot breath blanketing me. My heart hammered like a torrential downpour as his face drew closer, and closer...
On pure reflex, I turned my head aside and squeezed my eyes shut.
One second.
Two seconds.
Three seconds.
When I sensed Sebastian Forrest making no further move, I finally opened my eyes. I was met with his dark, laughing eyes and the unabashed curve of his smile. "You’re pressing on my wound, you know."
My face exploded in a blush. I scrambled to sit up and immediately checked Sebastian Forrest’s arm.
The wound I had just cleaned had split open again from the pressure, and small beads of blood were seeping out.
"I’m so sorry," I apologized profusely.
"It’s nothing." Sebastian Forrest glanced at the injury on his arm and let out a low chuckle. "I guess I’ll have to trouble my little junior to fix me up again."
"Okay."
I immediately opened another packet of disinfectant swabs to clean the wound. Seeing it look even worse than before, I felt like I was only making a bigger mess.
"Does it still hurt?"
I looked up instinctively and met his smiling eyes. His brows were relaxed, the corners of his lips were quirked up, and his eyes seemed to glitter as if with crushed diamonds, absolutely dazzling. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
"It’s fine. Just a scratch."
Sebastian Forrest retracted his arm, then pulled a roll of gauze from the kit and handed it to me. "Just wrap this around it."
I quickly took the gauze to bandage him, but every time the scene from a moment ago flashed through my mind, I just wanted the ground to swallow me whole.
’It’s just—’
’It’s just... so embarrassing.’
As soon as the wound was bandaged, I grabbed the first-aid kit and fled. I was too mortified to stay a second longer.
The moment I got back to my apartment, I ran to the bathroom and splashed water on my face. Only then did the burning in my cheeks begin to cool.
"Chelsea Joyce, have you lost your mind? Snap out of it!" I berated myself, splashing another handful of cold water on my face.
’Chloe Miller is going to be the death of me.’
’It’s all her fault, always feeding me all that nonsense...’
’Honestly—I can never show my face again.’
...
After avoiding Sebastian Forrest like the plague for two days, I was tiptoeing out of my apartment on the third morning to head to work when the door across the hall suddenly swung open.
"Morning, little junior."
"...Morning." I forced a smile. "What a coincidence."
Sebastian Forrest gave me that same wry smile. "It certainly is. Living right across the hall and still managing not to see each other for two whole days."
"..."
When I didn’t say anything, he flicked my forehead gently with his finger. "Let’s go. I’ll give you a ride."
’It’s a five-minute drive to my office at most.’
But perhaps because it was a Friday, traffic was especially heavy this morning.
"We’re leaving for Varden first thing tomorrow. Are you all packed?" Sebastian Forrest asked, his fingers drumming idly on the steering wheel as he glanced at me with a slight smile.
"There’s not much to pack, just a change of clothes." Then I double-checked with him, "We’re only staying in Varden for one night, right?"
"Right." Sebastian Forrest nodded.
A few sentences later, the car pulled up in front of Wind-Whisper Voiceworks.
I watched Sebastian Forrest’s car pull away before turning to head into the office.
The moment I stepped into the office, however, I noticed my colleagues giving me looks that were a little too excited and intense. As I was wondering what was going on, my department manager approached me with a grin.
"Joyce, did you see Weibo’s trending list last night?"
His question left me completely baffled. I shook my head, confused. "What trending list?"
"The show you dubbed for Clara Langley just premiered on the national network last night! Somehow, a blogger with over ten million followers edited a clip of your voicework, and it’s gone completely viral!"
"Clara Langley’s agent just called. They want to sign you as her exclusive voice actress."
I couldn’t help but frown at his words. "Manager, can I turn it down?"
The manager clearly hadn’t expected me to refuse. He stared, stunned for a second, before blinking. "Why?"
"For some personal reasons."
The manager started to get anxious, his tone turning persuasive. "Joyce, Clara Langley is an international celebrity who’s planning to focus on her career here. Her popularity is surging right now. If you become her exclusive voice actress, you’ll have firmly established yourself in the industry."
’This is the kind of golden opportunity most voice actors only dream of.’
"I really don’t want to," I said, looking at my manager apologetically but keeping my tone firm. "Please, just turn it down for me. Or you could give the job to another colleague, that would be fine too."
’In short—Clara Langley can get the hell away from me and stay there!’
