On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 45: Going to the Hospital for an Abortion
"Are you this happy to divorce me?" Theodore Grant suddenly asked, his voice low.
I couldn’t help but look back at him, meeting his gaze directly. I thought I saw a flicker of pain in the depths of his eyes.
I frowned slightly. Just as I tried to get a closer look, Theodore Grant had already averted his gaze. "Chelsea Joyce, you’ll regret this."
With that, he got into his car and quickly drove away.
I watched him leave, wondering where he got the confidence to say I’d regret it. Besides, this wasn’t the first time he’d said that...
He said the same thing last time when he agreed to the divorce.
But what happened then?
He was the only one who regretted it.
I couldn’t help but take a deep breath. The weight that had been pressing on my heart was finally lifted.
Once the one-month divorce cooling-off period is over, I’ll be able to officially and completely break free from this marriage.
"Chelsea, hurry up and show me the divorce certificate," Chloe Miller said, her face alight with excitement, looking completely impatient.
At the mention of that, I frowned slightly. "There’s a one-month cooling-off period now. We can’t get the certificate until a month later."
"What the hell?" Chloe Miller was stunned. "What kind of stupid rule is that?"
"It’s a new regulation."
Chloe Miller looked worried. "It’s just a delay in getting the papers, right? Nothing can go wrong during that time, can it?"
I shook my head. "During that month, if either party wants to withdraw the divorce application, the divorce is canceled."
"Huh?" Chloe Miller was shocked and found it utterly absurd. "This makes me not even want to get married. So, it takes a minute to get married, but a month to get divorced?"
Chloe Miller pouted. "So now we have to pray Theodore Grant doesn’t change his mind halfway through?"
I couldn’t help but press my lips together. To be honest, that was my biggest worry too.
However, now that Clara Langley is pregnant and Theodore Grant doesn’t realize he’s about to raise another man’s child, he’s definitely more eager for this divorce than I am.
After all, Clara Langley’s belly can’t wait.
"He probably won’t," I said, looking up at Chloe Miller. "After all, Clara Langley is carrying ’his’ child right now."
"Exactly! You’re right!" Chloe Miller’s eyes lit up, her face full of schadenfreude. "Even if he gets a paternity test, he’ll have to wait until after the baby is born."
I nodded, my gaze subconsciously falling to my own slightly protruding belly. "Chloe, come with me to the hospital for an abortion."
’It’s time to make a clean break!’
...
Soon, Chloe Miller drove us to Kington University Hospital.
After registering, I got in line and waited for my number to be called.
Chloe Miller held my hand the whole time, and I could feel her palm was slightly sweaty.
I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. It felt like she was even more nervous than I was.
Soon, it was my turn.
When I pushed open the door, it was the same doctor from the other day.
Since I was there for an abortion, a series of tests was unavoidable.
After finishing the series of tests, I clutched a stack of lab reports and returned to the consultation room.
"Miss Joyce, your numbers are even more serious than last time..." The doctor’s brow was tightly furrowed. "The embryo has adhered to the uterus. If we forcibly perform a D&C, there could be risks."
My heart leaped into my throat. "Could it cause permanent infertility?"
The doctor nodded. "There’s a high probability you won’t be able to have children again."
I was stunned into a daze. ’How could this be?’
Seeing my reaction, the doctor sighed. "Miss Joyce, all living things have a spirit, especially a small life connected to you by blood. It probably doesn’t want to leave you just like this. Why don’t you reconsider? After all, it wasn’t easy for you to conceive this child..."
My heart trembled. I subconsciously looked down and gently placed a hand on my lower abdomen.
"Chelsea, maybe we should keep the baby..." Chloe Miller whispered from the side.
She was clearly worried about the consequences of the abortion.
Besides, Chloe Miller was a total softy. Even if she usually acted fierce and aggressive, it was just a facade.
’But can I really keep this child?’
’He’s Theodore Grant’s flesh and blood. As long as he exists, my ties with Theodore Grant will never be completely severed!’
’But this child is also my own flesh and blood.’
’One of the few relatives I have in this world.’
Seeming to notice my hesitation, the doctor pushed an ultrasound photo in front of me. "You’re six weeks pregnant now. You can see the gestational sac clearly..."
"Right now, he’s about the size of a small blueberry. From this point on, he’s starting to differentiate his head, brain vesicles, facial organs, and respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems. The basic facial features are forming; you can clearly see the nostrils and the beginnings of eyes."
The doctor’s voice was gentle. My gaze followed his finger, and it was as if I could really see the baby’s eyes...
As if he were blinking right now, staring straight at me and smiling...
"Moreover, his kidneys and heart have also formed. His heart is as small as a sunflower seed, but it’s already started beating—THUMP-THUMP-THUMP—at up to 150 times per minute, twice as fast as an adult’s. And the heart and blood vessels are beginning to transport blood throughout his body."
"In addition, his neural tube has connected to the brain and spinal cord, the digestive tract is starting to form, and his stomach and chest have begun to develop..."
"Doctor..." Just then, I suddenly cut him off. "I’m keeping this baby. I’m not having the abortion."
The doctor seemed to let out a quiet sigh of relief and then smiled. "Alright, starting today, I’ll create a file for you. You’ll need to come in for a check-up every month. If you feel any discomfort or notice anything abnormal, come to the hospital immediately."
"Thank you, Doctor."
Once the file was created, Chloe Miller and I finally headed out.
"Are you really going to keep the baby?" Chloe Miller still seemed a little worried. "No regrets?"
"No regrets." I pressed my lips together. "This is my child, and mine alone."
Hearing this, Chloe Miller broke into a wide grin. "Count me in. I want to be the baby’s godmother."
Chloe Miller made me laugh. Compared to the complex and heavy feelings I’d had on the way here, now that I had finally decided to keep the baby, I felt much more at ease.
However, just as Chloe Miller and I were walking out of the hospital and about to get in the car to leave, we suddenly heard the piercing screech of brakes at the hospital entrance, immediately followed by the angry shouts of passersby—
"Driving that fast? In a hurry to get reincarnated?!"
"This is a hospital! Are you trying to get yourself killed driving like that?"
Chloe Miller and I subconsciously turned toward the sound. Just as we were thinking it was probably the family member of some patient, frantic with worry, we saw a tall, all-too-familiar figure push open the car door and step out.
Sebastian Forrest?!
’What... what’s wrong with him?’
’I’m so used to his usual carefree and languid demeanor that seeing him wear his emotions so openly on his face makes me suspect something major has happened!’
"Master Forrest!"
Just then, Chloe Miller suddenly waved and shouted at him.
"Chloe..." I was startled by her action. "What are you doing?"
’One look at Sebastian Forrest and you can tell something big has happened. Why would she pick this moment to greet him?’
At that moment, when Sebastian Forrest saw Chloe Miller and me, he froze for a full three seconds before striding toward me.
