On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 41: You’re Not Going to Take Responsibility for the Child in My Belly?
Three years ago, outside my school, I saw an old woman fall on the side of the road. None of the passersby went to help her up. Some even started recording her, muttering about scams.
I couldn’t just stand by, so I called for an ambulance and went with her to the hospital.
I didn’t leave until I was sure she was okay.
If Sebastian Forrest hadn’t brought it up today, I would have almost forgotten about that little incident.
"Remember now?" Sebastian Forrest smiled.
I nodded, the realization dawning on me. "So that’s why you helped me, Senior Forrest..."
Sebastian Forrest glanced at me with an enigmatic smile and said meaningfully, "You could say that..."
Now that I had a clear reason, my unease finally subsided.
Soon, the car pulled up in front of my office building.
I quickly thanked him and got out of the car.
Then, the window rolled down. Sebastian Forrest leaned against the steering wheel, turning slightly toward me. The movement made his already open collar gape a little wider, giving him a rugged, casual air. "See you tonight, Junior."
His words sounded undeniably flirtatious, but ’now that we live across the hall from each other, we will be seeing each other every day.’
I paused for a second, then nodded quickly. "Drive safe."
Sebastian Forrest gave a lazy wave as the window slowly rolled up, and the car sped off.
"Joyce?"
Just then, I heard someone call my name from behind. I turned to see Julian Hayes standing nearby, a slight frown on his face.
I remembered the opera tickets he’d given me yesterday and quickly pulled them from my bag. "Hayes, I need to give these back to you..."
Julian Hayes pressed his lips together. "Was that guy your boyfriend?"
I was taken aback and quickly shook my head. "No, he’s a senior from my university."
Julian Hayes seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, then asked with a smile, "So, do you have a boyfriend?"
It was only then that I realized what he was asking. "I’m married."
"What?" Julian Hayes’s face was a mask of disbelief. "You... You’re married?"
I nodded.
Julian Hayes pressed his lips together, his disappointment plain to see, but he still managed to force a smile. "Oh, I see... Well..."
But before he could finish, someone shouted my name.
"Chelsea Joyce!"
Hearing that all-too-familiar voice made my heart seize. I frowned and turned to face the newcomer.
It was Theodore Grant, standing in front of his car, frowning in my direction.
I hadn’t seen him in days. He looked exhausted, but his sharp suit still gave him a tall, commanding presence—the very picture of a business elite.
"What are you doing here?" I asked Theodore Grant coldly.
"I need to talk to you," Theodore Grant said, reaching for my hand.
I instinctively pulled away. Before I could say a word, Julian Hayes had already stepped in front of me. "Who are you? What do you want?"
Theodore Grant frowned at Julian Hayes. His tall frame and powerful aura were intimidating without him even trying to be. "I’m her husband."
Julian Hayes froze, instinctively turning to look at my face.
I pressed my lips together and gave him a nod. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
Julian Hayes pressed his lips together. "Is he really your husband?"
"Yeah."
I was worried he’d get into a conflict with Theodore Grant if he stayed, so I quickly said, "Hayes, I’m fine. You should head back to the office."
"Alright, you two talk then..." Julian Hayes said, looking at me worriedly. "Call me if you need anything."
"Thanks, Hayes."
After Julian Hayes left, Theodore Grant’s lips twisted into a sneer. "You’ve got quite a few white knights, don’t you..."
I was in no mood for his sarcasm. "What do you want?"
Theodore Grant pressed his lips together. After a long moment, he spoke in a low voice, "You moved? Are you that desperate to get away from me?"
I cut him off impatiently. "Is this all you came to say?"
A conflicted, pained look crossed Theodore’s face. "Chelsea, have you really become this impatient just talking to me?"
’He couldn’t seem to understand how the girl who used to be thrilled for days just from a single word from him could have become so cold.’
"Just say what you came to say."
Theodore Grant took a deep breath, visibly reigning in his emotions. His lips parted as if to say one thing, but he seemed to change his mind at the last second. "Chelsea, can we really not go back to how things were?"
"We can’t."
But Theodore Grant refused to believe it. "Chelsea, I swear I’ll make up for everything I’ve done wrong. Just give me one last chance, please? Even your mother, if she’s watching from heaven, wouldn’t want to see us get divorced..."
"Theodore Grant, you don’t have the right to mention my mother!"
But Theodore Grant grabbed my shoulders. "Chelsea, didn’t you always want a child? We can do IVF. I promise I’ll make you the happiest woman in the world, I—"
"Theodore..."
But before he could finish, a car door nearby was suddenly pushed open, and Clara Langley, wearing sunglasses, walked over.
I scoffed, knocking Theodore Grant’s hands away. A sneer touched my lips. "You make me sick, Theodore."
’Begging me to take him back while another woman is sitting in his car... ’
"What’s taking so long?" Clara Langley asked, frowning with displeasure. "Don’t tell me Chelsea Joyce is refusing to divorce you?"
Theodore Grant didn’t answer, his expression conflicted.
Clara Langley’s frown deepened as she stared at me. "Chelsea Joyce, I really overestimated you. I actually thought you were going to divorce Theodore. I didn’t realize you were just playing hard to get."
I instinctively looked at Theodore Grant, my face a picture of astonishment. "You agreed to the divorce?"
Theodore’s lips moved. "Chelsea, I..."
"Theodore, what did you promise me before we came here?" Seeing him hesitate, Clara Langley stared at him in disbelief. "Are you telling me you don’t want to take responsibility for the baby in my belly anymore?"
At her words, I whipped my head around to stare at Clara Langley, unable to believe my ears.
’Take responsibility for the baby in her belly?’
’What did she mean by that?’
’Isn’t the baby her ex-husband’s?’
’How...?’
’Could it be that Theodore and her have been... for a long time?’
Theodore Grant clearly hadn’t expected Clara Langley to just blurt out the truth like that. He quickly turned to me. "Chelsea, listen to me, I was drunk that day! I was looking for you, but you handed me over to Clara, I—"
I stared at Theodore Grant in utter disbelief. ’That day?’
’The day Theodore got drunk and Clara Langley came to pick him up?’
’But—’
’Clara Langley was already pregnant back then, wasn’t she?’
"Theodore, are you trying to get out of your responsibility?" Clara Langley’s face flushed with anger at his explanation. "Fine! If that’s how it is, I’ll go and get an abortion right now..."
"Clara!" There was no way Theodore Grant was going to give up this child.
He suffered from low sperm motility. Even with IVF, the success rate was minuscule. Now that Clara Langley was finally, miraculously pregnant, the baby in her belly might be the only child he would ever have!
How could he possibly give it up!
