Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Wouldn’t the Next Step Be Living Together?

Sebastian Forrest let out a cold laugh, not even sparing him a glance. After speaking, he led me into the house and, with a SLAM, shut the door!

Hearing Theodore Grant furiously pounding on the door from outside, I glanced nervously in its direction.

"Let’s move you out today. It’s not very safe here."

"Move where?"

Sebastian Forrest answered without a second thought, "I have a place at Sherwood Court, across from your company. It’s fully furnished with all the appliances. You can move in today."

I couldn’t help but hesitate. Thinking back on the conversation between Sebastian Forrest and Theodore Grant, I felt a lingering unease.

"What’s wrong?" Sebastian Forrest seemed to notice my hesitation and chuckled lightly. "Did Theodore Grant’s ugly display just now scare you?"

"No."

Hearing the playful tone in his voice, I finally relaxed. "Then I’ll have to trouble you, Senior Forrest."

Theodore Grant caused a scene for quite a while before security finally drove him away.

To avoid any further complications, I started packing to move as soon as Theodore Grant left.

Since I had just moved once recently, the process was much more familiar this time.

I hired movers to help, and everything was moved out quickly.

To prevent Theodore Grant from harassing me again, I even changed my phone number. Since he wouldn’t agree to a divorce settlement anyway, I might as well just go straight to filing a lawsuit.

It would take some time and energy, but at least I’d be free from Theodore Grant’s harassment.

The moment Chloe Miller heard I had moved again, she immediately guessed what had happened.

"Did that bastard Theodore Grant harass you again?"

"Yeah." I nodded. "I don’t want to get tangled up with him anymore, so I just decided to move."

"Where did you move? Quick, send me the address! I’ll come over for a housewarming!" Chloe Miller said excitedly.

I smiled and sent her my location.

"Sherwood Court?" Chloe Miller’s face was full of disbelief. "That’s a luxury residential area!"

"Senior Forrest is letting me stay for a while. I’ll move back out once the divorce is finalized."

"Tsk, tsk, tsk!" Chloe Miller couldn’t help but exclaim. "It’s nice to have a senior who’s rich and powerful. I mean, I’m technically his junior too, so how come I don’t get this kind of treatment..."

"Chloe!" I said with a helpless expression. "Senior Forrest isn’t just helping me for no reason. There was a condition."

"I know, I know. ’Meeting the parents’!"

"..."

Now that she put it that way, I had to admit it did seem a little... unusual.

’Could it be that Senior Forrest—’

But the moment that thought surfaced, I immediately shook my head. ’Impossible.’

’With Sebastian Forrest’s family background and fortune, what kind of woman couldn’t he find? Why would he possibly be interested in someone like me, who’s about to get divorced?’

’If nothing else, the Forrest Family alone would never approve.’

"Alright, stop talking nonsense. I’m ordering hot pot delivery. You want to come over?"

"Yes, yes, yes! Wait for me!"

...

Soon, Chloe Miller drove over.

"How did you get here so fast?" I quickly opened the door to let her in.

"This place is close to my office."

Chloe Miller said, taking off her bag and looking around. "Wow, how big is this place? The living room is huge..."

"Probably over two hundred square meters..." It was much bigger than my previous place. There were three bedrooms alone.

Chloe Miller gave me a thumbs-up. "Impressive."

But her gaze soon fell on the wound on the back of my hand. "What happened to your hand?" 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"A dog scratched me."

"What? Did you get a rabies shot?" Chloe Miller asked nervously.

I chuckled and then explained, "I was scratched by Clara Langley."

"What happened? Has that woman gone crazy?"

I gave her a brief rundown of what happened today, and also shared the piece of gossip Sebastian Forrest had told me.

"That’s one complicated relationship! I feel like there’s something fishy going on here." Chloe Miller scratched her head. "Ugh, my head hurts. I think my brain is trying to grow."

"..."

I smiled and gently pulled Chloe Miller’s hand down. "Alright, let’s not worry about her."

DING-DONG!

Just then, the doorbell rang, followed by a shout from outside, "Delivery!"

"Our hot pot is here!" Chloe Miller ran excitedly to open the door.

"Your delivery."

"Thanks." Chloe Miller quickly took the delivery bag.

But just as I was about to close the door, the door to the apartment opposite ours swung open—

"Senior Forrest?"

I stared in astonishment at the man emerging from the opposite apartment, feeling like my brain was about to short-circuit.

’S-Sebastian Forrest lives here too?’

’And he’s my next-door neighbor?!’

"You... How are you..."

"Why so surprised?" Sebastian Forrest tilted his head with a slight smile. "Am I not allowed to live here?"

It was Chloe Miller who reacted first. "Have you eaten, Master Forrest? Would you like to join us?"

"No, thanks. Something came up at the office, so I have to head over. You two enjoy your meal."

After watching Sebastian Forrest leave, Chloe Miller shut the door, her face flush with excitement. "I think Master Forrest planned this all along! He even ended up being your neighbor! What’s next, moving in together?"

"..."

"Don’t be ridiculous."

"Okay, okay, okay, I’ll stop. Let’s eat hot pot. Damn, I’ve been working all day. I’m starving to death."

The meal lasted for a little over an hour.

After seeing Chloe Miller off, I tidied up the room a bit. Since I had a meeting at the office early tomorrow morning, I just washed up and went to bed.

The next morning, just as I finished breakfast and was about to leave for work, the door across the hall opened as well.

"Senior Forrest, good morning..."

"Morning..."

Sebastian Forrest was wearing a very ordinary-looking windbreaker today, with army-green pants tucked into black combat boots, giving him a wild, untamed look.

"Want a ride to your office?"

"No, thank you. It’s just across the street. I can just take the bus."

"Come on, it’s on my way."

It was an offer too kind to refuse, and besides, I had something I wanted to ask him, so I agreed.

"Senior Forrest, can I ask you a question?" I asked as soon as I got in the car.

"Mm," Sebastian Forrest glanced at me, a smile playing on his lips. "Go ahead."

"Why do you want to take me to see Madam Forrest?"

Last night, Chloe Miller’s comment about ’meeting the parents’ had me dreaming about it all night long...

Sebastian Forrest fastened his seatbelt, then glanced sideways at me. With a curl of his lips, he said, "It seems you’ve forgotten. You’ve met The Matriarch before, remember?"

I was completely astonished. "I’ve met Madam Forrest? When was this?"

"Three years ago." Sebastian Forrest’s voice was low, deep, and magnetic. "You saved an old woman at the school gate..."

I blinked, completely baffled.

’Three years ago?’

’The school gate...’

Just then, an image flashed through my mind, and my jaw dropped in disbelief. "That... that old lady was Madam Forrest?"
