Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Who Is the Girl Sebastian Forrest Likes?

I couldn’t help but frown, wondering what sort of fit Clara Langley was throwing.

Theodore Grant was no longer by her side, and I had no idea where he’d gone.

But that was none of my business anymore. I couldn’t be bothered to deal with her, so I immediately looked away, my face devoid of expression.

Sebastian Forrest’s status was unique. Even though he was in business now, a steady stream of political figures still flocked to his side.

After all, with his parents holding high-ranking military and political positions, these people couldn’t reach such heights on their own. Sebastian Forrest rarely attended banquets like this, so how could they possibly pass up such a golden opportunity to curry favor with him?

In an instant, the crowd around Sebastian Forrest swelled. The most influential guests had all come over to speak with him, while those with less clout watched from a distance, scheming for a way to latch onto such a powerful backer!

However, Sebastian Forrest’s expression remained indifferent the entire time, his eyes even holding a hint of impatience. It was clear he disliked these kinds of occasions.

Just then, one of the men’s gazes flickered past Sebastian Forrest and landed on me. He smiled and asked, "Master Forrest, is this your girlfriend?"

A smile finally graced Sebastian Forrest’s face. He glanced at me, lips curled, but said nothing.

But to everyone else, his reaction was as good as a confirmation!

With that, the crowd finally found their opening and began showering me with compliments.

And so, I finally understood why some people love sycophants—it really is wonderful to listen to. My spirits were completely lifted.

But as happy as it made me, I knew their praise wasn’t really directed at me.

The thought made me want to laugh and cry at the same time. ’You’re all buttering up the wrong person,’ I thought.

’I’m not really his girlfriend.’

"What’s wrong? Feeling bored?"

Just then, Sebastian Forrest turned his head to look at me. The solid black, subtly patterned suit he wore looked exceptionally sharp. He rarely dressed so formally; much of his usual languid air had faded, replaced by a more rugged and upright bearing.

I forced a laugh. "No."

"How about I take you outside for some fresh air?"

Seeing so many people crowded around Sebastian Forrest, I knew it wouldn’t be right to leave them all hanging...

"It’s okay, Senior Forrest. You keep chatting. I’m just going to the restroom."

Sebastian Forrest nodded, his ink-black eyes holding a hint of a smile. "Hurry back."

...

I finally escaped the bustling banquet hall and couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief.

A light-colored carpet stretched down the long corridor. Since most of the guests were in the banquet hall, it was exceptionally quiet out here.

I stood before the floor-to-ceiling window at the end of the hall, gazing down at the bustling traffic below.

I had to admit, Eastwood Manor was truly an oasis of tranquility in the bustling city. Despite being downtown, the view was a sea of lush greenery. I took a deep breath, feeling refreshed and serene.

"So, here you are!"

Just then, a low female voice sounded from behind. I frowned and turned to see Clara Langley standing nearby, arms crossed, her eyes filled with arrogance. "Chelsea Joyce, I think we need to have a serious talk."

I sneered. "I have nothing to talk to you about."

Clara Langley’s brow furrowed, but her tone was aggressive and harsh when she spoke. "You don’t need to glower at me. I never interfered in your marriage. You’re the one who has been misunderstanding things between me and Theodore Grant."

"A misunderstanding?" I laughed in exasperation. "That’s not what you said when you came to my house yesterday to pick up Theodore Grant."

Clara Langley said, clearly displeased, "I’m trying to have a civil conversation with you. Why are you dragging irrelevant things into this?"

I stared at her coldly. ’It’s rare to see someone so utterly shameless!’

"I know you want to divorce Theodore Grant. I’ll talk him into it," Clara Langley continued, ignoring me. "Even as one of his good friends, I can’t approve of a promiscuous woman like you being with him!"

As she spoke, she looked me up and down with contempt. "And now you’ve run off to seduce Sebastian Forrest? Don’t you know he and Theodore Grant are best friends?"

"Shut your mouth!" I finally couldn’t suppress my anger, and my sharp rebuke silenced her.

"Save your sanctimonious act, Clara Langley. You know perfectly well what’s really on your mind!"

"You’re the hypocrite!" Clara Langley shot back, annoyed. "You’re the one so adamantly demanding a divorce from Theodore Grant, yet you keep stringing him along, keeping yourself on his mind. I bet you don’t actually want to divorce him at all!"

I sneered. "I don’t need to explain myself to you. Also, there’s one thing you seem to have gotten wrong..."

I paused, then said, enunciating every word, "It’s Theodore Grant who keeps pestering *me*. If you’re so capable, then make him stay out of my life forever!"

"Fine. Fine," Clara Langley nodded repeatedly. "You’d better mean it. Don’t you worry, I won’t let Theodore Grant bother you again! I will definitely make him agree to the divorce!"

With that, Clara Langley turned and stormed away.

I watched her leave, feeling like the world had become surreal and absurd.

’To think someone as bizarre as Clara Langley actually exists!’

I couldn’t help but let out a frustrated sigh.

As infuriating as Clara Langley’s words were, there was one silver lining.

She said she wouldn’t let Theodore Grant bother me anymore, and that she would make him agree to the divorce.

’I hope she keeps her word.’

...

After leaving the restroom, I returned to the banquet hall.

Sebastian Forrest was still standing where I’d left him, but the crowd was gone. Only Jude Miller remained by his side.

I immediately walked over to them.

"I’m telling you, if you had been as decisive back then as you are now, you wouldn’t have let someone else beat you to it. You wasted two whole years! By now, your kids would probably be running around!"

"Shut up!"

"What? Hit a nerve? Are you regretting it now?"

I could faintly hear them talking from a distance, but I couldn’t make out the words clearly.

Sebastian Forrest looked up, a faint, noncommittal smile playing on his lips. "You know how stubborn that girl is. What chance did I ever have?"

’That girl?’

I raised an eyebrow in surprise. ’Are they talking about a girl?’

’Could it be the girl Sebastian Forrest likes?’ 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

"I’m just saying, you..." Jude Miller started to say, but Sebastian Forrest, who had just spotted me, gave him a light kick and shot him a look to shut him up.

Jude Miller nodded helplessly and downed a mouthful of his drink.

"Come on, try this. Mr. Miller just brought over some cherry cake," Sebastian Forrest said, beckoning me over.

I quickly accepted the exquisite little cake and smiled at Jude Miller. "Thank you, Dr. Miller."

But Jude Miller merely glanced at Sebastian Forrest before turning back to me with a wicked grin. "It was Sebastian Forrest who said you like cherry cake, so I just brought it over for you."

I glanced at Sebastian Forrest, surprised. I never thought he’d know I liked it.

Sebastian Forrest shot Jude Miller a glare before tearing open the packaging and handing me the small fork. "Here, try it."

"Thanks."

I quickly took it and popped a cherry into my mouth.

The sweet and sour flavor of the cherry and the richness of the cream exploded on my tongue. I smiled instinctively, my eyes crinkling. "Mmm, it’s delicious."

But when I looked up at Sebastian Forrest, I found him staring at me, lost in a daze...
