Chapter 33: Chapter 33: War Zone

Theodore Grant was a completely different person from the dispirited man he’d been this morning. Dressed in a well-fitted suit, he looked dashing and full of vigor.

And Clara Langley, beside him, was even more radiant. The way they looked at each other and chatted exuded an indescribable chemistry. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

"I heard Theodore Grant bailed on his own wedding for Clara Langley. He’s probably getting a divorce, right?"

"What? I heard he’s already divorced."

"I heard they’re divorced too. Theodore Grant never even showed up to the wedding. He made his mother-in-law so angry she coughed up blood..."

"That Mrs. Grant is so pitiful..."

Listening to the crowd’s hushed whispers, I felt a little dazed.

Not much time had passed since the wedding day, but it already felt like a lifetime ago.

Theodore Grant was chatting with someone while Clara Langley livened up the mood beside him. She was a famous actress, and although her status wasn’t particularly respectable in a place like Eastwood Manor, no one gave her any trouble with Theodore by her side.

"Do you know why I brought you here today?"

Just then, Sebastian Forrest suddenly lowered his voice and whispered in my ear.

I instinctively turned to look at him, only then realizing how close we were—so close I could see my own reflection in his eyes.

"Why?" I took a small step back, putting a little distance between us.

Sebastian Forrest’s lips curved into a smile. He reached out, took my hand, and looked at me with dark, focused eyes. "Come with me."

I didn’t know what he was planning, but as I watched him lead me by the hand toward Theodore Grant and Clara Langley, my heart clenched, and my entire back went rigid.

"Well, well, look at you all chatting..." Sebastian Forrest’s casual voice interrupted the conversation between Theodore Grant and the others.

In this kind of setting, he seemed to be completely in his element. His nonchalant face held a hint of disdain, yet his expression was completely unreadable.

"Master Forrest, I didn’t expect to see you here..." The man who had just been talking to Theodore Grant turned to Sebastian Forrest with great enthusiasm. "It really has been a while..."

Sebastian Forrest smiled. "I was at the research institute before. Just got back..."

"I heard Master Forrest has been involved in military-industrial research recently..."

As the two of them started talking, I stood by with a polite, perfectly composed smile.

Meanwhile, Theodore Grant’s gaze was fixed on me, so intense it felt like it could burn a hole right through me.

Clara Langley clearly hadn’t expected me to be here either. Her eyes darted back and forth between me and Sebastian Forrest before finally landing on his hand holding mine.

Her eyes narrowed slightly. She subconsciously tightened her grip on Theodore Grant’s arm, a triumphant smirk playing on her lips.

But just then, Theodore Grant violently shook off Clara Langley’s hand. His eyes, filled with a defiant hostility, were locked on me as he ground out, "Chelsea Joyce, what are you doing here?!"

His voice was nothing like its usual gentle, deep tone. Instead, it was as if it had been plunged into an icy abyss, so cold it made one’s heart tremble.

But I wasn’t the least bit intimidated. My gaze swept over to the slightly flustered Clara Langley, who was once again trying to take Theodore’s arm, and I sneered, "If you’re both here, why can’t I be?"

Theodore Grant’s brow furrowed. Seething with overwhelming rage, he moved to grab my wrist. "You’re coming back with me!"

But before he could touch me, Sebastian Forrest pulled me behind him. "Theodore Grant, what do you think you’re doing? You two are divorced. Why are you still sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong?"

His words sent a shockwave through the onlookers.

’What... What’s going on?’

’Divorced?’

’Could it be that the woman Master Forrest brought today is Theodore Grant’s ex-wife?’

’Then Clara Langley, the woman Theodore Grant brought, must be the current one.’

’The ex and the current flame?’

’And they’re the former Twin Jewels of Kington University...’

’Oh my god!’

’This is the ultimate War Zone!’

"Who said we’re divorced?!" Theodore Grant snarled.

Sebastian Forrest raised an eyebrow and jutted his chin toward Clara Langley. "You brought your new girlfriend right here. Still trying to hide it?"

"Sebastian Forrest, don’t spout nonsense!" Theodore Grant shoved Clara Langley’s arm away again, struggling to suppress his fury. "Chelsea Joyce is my wife! I have nothing to do with Clara Langley!"

"Nothing to do with her?" Sebastian Forrest let out a soft, cold laugh. "Do you even believe that yourself?"

"You—"

"Since you’re divorced, mind your own business." A lazy, carefree smile touched Sebastian Forrest’s lips. "Do you know what a proper ex-husband should be like?"

He paused, his thin lips parting slightly. "He should be as good as dead."

"Sebastian Forrest, we haven’t..."

But before Theodore Grant could finish, Clara Langley grabbed his arm and said in her usual forthright tone, "That’s enough, Theodore. Everyone’s watching. Stop talking."

With that, she forcefully pulled him toward a corner, chiding him as they went. "Don’t make a scene in a place like this. That Sebastian Forrest is a shameless, spoiled princeling, but you have the Grant Group’s reputation to uphold!"

Watching Clara Langley walk away with her arm linked through Theodore Grant’s, a cold sneer spread across my lips.

’To outsiders, Clara Langley looks every bit the part of the rightful wife. But who would have known she’s nothing but a homewrecker, through and through!’

"So? What do you think of my little trick?"

Just as I was seething with indignation, Sebastian Forrest looked at me, a smirk on his face. "After tonight’s little drama, everyone in Kington will know Theodore Grant is divorced."

I instinctively looked up at Sebastian Forrest, finally understanding his true reason for bringing me to Eastwood Manor today.

’Theodore Grant didn’t want a divorce, did he?’

’Once the rumors spread and the dust settles, he won’t have a choice in the matter!’

A smile bloomed on my face, and all the frustration from moments before vanished without a trace.

Sebastian Forrest stared at me intently. His eyes seemed to hold a layer of crushed diamonds, sparkling brightly, yet they also seemed to contain a myriad of emotions...

My heart quivered. But just as I tried to get a closer look, he had already reverted to his usual nonchalant demeanor. "So? You can rest easy now, right?"

"Thank you, Senior Forrest."

"Why be so formal with me?"

I let out a soft laugh. Just as I was about to say something, I saw a tall, imposing figure walking toward us.

"Miss Joyce, long time no see."

I looked at the man in the sharp suit with some surprise. "Dr. Miller? What are you doing here?"

Jude Miller’s lips curved slightly, and a teasing smile flickered toward Sebastian Forrest. "I came to watch a certain someone put on a show! This whole ’turning a fake show into reality’ act is quite brilliant..."

"Huh?" I looked at him, completely bewildered, not understanding what he was talking about.

It was Sebastian Forrest who frowned and gave him an annoyed kick. "What nonsense are you spouting? Go cool off somewhere else!"

Jude Miller dodged and laughed, and it was clear the two of them had a good relationship.

I laughed along with them, but just then, I felt a gaze as sharp as a knife cut through the crowd and land on me...

I instinctively looked up and met a pair of eyes filled with malice—

It was Clara Langley.
