On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 32: Misunderstanding
That phone call at noon left my thoughts in a mess, so my voice-over work this afternoon was nowhere near as smooth as it had been this morning.
Just to make sure I could finish up and leave early, I had to rein in my emotions and force myself to focus on my work.
As a result, I ended up leaving half an hour late.
After saying goodbye to my colleagues, I quickly grabbed my bag and rushed out. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
But as soon as I got to the ground floor, I saw a tall, imposing figure leaning against the reception desk.
Perhaps it was because of his time at a research institute. Despite his lazy, casual posture, he exuded a distinguished and noble aura that made every passing girl turn her head to stare. Yet, not a single one dared to approach and talk to him.
After all, with an aura like that, he was clearly either rich or high-status—not someone to be trifled with.
"I’m sorry, I had to work a bit of overtime. I hope I didn’t keep you waiting long."
Sebastian Forrest didn’t seem to mind at all. He just curled his lips into a smile and said, "Let’s go."
The car drove all the way to Eastwood Manor on Veridia Avenue.
The sun was setting, and outside the car, the crimson clouds and fractured light were a brilliant spectacle, casting a magnificent silhouette on our faces as it shone through the clouds.
It wasn’t until I had followed Sebastian Forrest into Eastwood Manor, sailing through without any hindrance, that I realized something was wrong.
’Since we’re here for a banquet, we obviously have to change clothes.’
But I was still wearing the long, light green dress I’d bought with Chloe Miller yesterday. And as for Sebastian Forrest...
Even though the dark gray crewneck sweatshirt he was wearing looked perfectly neat on him, it was still completely inappropriate for the occasion.
’This is Eastwood Manor...’
’Isn’t everyone who comes here a person of immense power and influence?’
’If Sebastian Forrest and I really showed up at the banquet dressed like this, we’d definitely become the center of attention.’
Just as I was agonizing over how to bring it up, I watched as Sebastian Forrest breezed through the high-ceilinged lobby as if he owned the place, swiping a card to enter the elevator and using his fingerprint to unlock an apartment door...
Standing before the floor-to-ceiling windows, which must have been over ten meters wide, I still couldn’t process what was happening.
Even though I already knew Sebastian Forrest was incredibly wealthy and had a prominent status, my understanding had been only superficial. It was only when I witnessed for myself that he had his own private apartment even in a place like Eastwood Manor that I belatedly realized what an incredibly powerful figure I had latched onto.
"Your clothes are in the bedroom. I don’t know your preferences, so I had a few outfits sent over. Just pick one to change into."
As Sebastian Forrest spoke, he grabbed the collar of his sweatshirt and pulled it upwards, single-handedly stripping it off and tossing it aside...
I blinked, a little stunned, as I watched him. Sebastian Forrest’s broad-shouldered, narrow-waisted, firm, honey-toned body was turned sideways to me, the smooth lines of his muscles tracing down past his abs—
The next thing I heard was the soft CLICK of his belt buckle.
"Little junior, you aren’t planning on watching me change, are you?"
My face instantly felt like it was on fire. I quickly spun around. "I... I’ll go get changed!"
Hearing a soft, low chuckle from behind me, I fled into the bedroom and slammed the door shut with a BANG.
’So embarrassing...’
Once inside the bedroom, I couldn’t help but cover my face with my hands. It was still frighteningly hot.
After waiting for what felt like an eternity for the heat in my face to subside, I finally noticed the gowns in the room.
Sebastian Forrest had just said he had ’a few’ outfits sent over, but this was far more than ’a few’!
There were a full dozen of them!
As I privately marveled at Sebastian Forrest’s casual extravagance, I started to look through the gowns one by one.
I had only caught a quick glimpse of Sebastian Forrest’s formal wear earlier, but I knew he had chosen an all-black suit with a subtle dark pattern.
I looked over all the options and finally chose a long, silver-white sequined gown.
Once I was changed, I took a deep breath. Figuring Sebastian Forrest must have finished changing by now, I pushed open the bedroom door.
Sebastian Forrest was leaning against the floor-to-ceiling windows, gazing at the Kington cityscape at night.
As if hearing a noise behind him, he instinctively glanced back over his shoulder—
His eyes were fixed on me, and he didn’t speak for a long moment. I couldn’t help but feel nervous and quickly glanced down at myself. "Wh-what is it? Does this one not look good?"
Sebastian Forrest’s throat bobbed. He curled his lips into a smile. "It’s beautiful."
Only then did I let out a sigh of relief.
’Sebastian Forrest brought me here today. I can’t embarrass him.’
To match the sequined gown, I had purposely put my hair up in a loose bun and applied my makeup with extra care, aiming for a radiant, sparkling look.
Unforgettably brilliant.
"Let’s go," he said. "The banquet is about to start."
Sebastian Forrest extended his arm to me, tilting his head with a smile that was equal parts roguish and gentlemanly.
I gave a small laugh and took his offered arm, walking with him toward the banquet.
...
Even though I had tried to imagine what a banquet at Eastwood Manor would be like, the moment I stepped into the grand hall, I realized my imagination had been far too poor.
The vast banquet hall was a dazzling spectacle of shimmering crystal and brilliant gold. Fragrant wine and elegant figures moved through the bustling crowd, and every detail, from the tablecloths to the dinner plates, was exquisitely luxurious.
The moment I entered the banquet hall on Sebastian Forrest’s arm, countless gazes turned in our direction. In the moments that followed, many people came up to greet him, a clear testament to his status within the Kington Circle.
"Master Forrest, and this is...?"
Soon enough, someone’s attention fell on me. Their gaze was probing, tinged with a slight surprise, as if they had never seen Sebastian Forrest attend a banquet with a female companion before...
Sebastian Forrest chuckled, gesturing to me openly as he introduced me. "My little junior."
I quickly extended my hand in greeting, my attitude neither servile nor overbearing. "Hello, I’m Chelsea Joyce. I was Senior Forrest’s junior at university."
"Miss Joyce, a pleasure."
I did my best to maintain an elegant and graceful posture, not daring to let my guard down for even a second.
’This is Sebastian Forrest’s home turf, after all. My job is to be on my best behavior and not embarrass him.’
With that in mind, I took a deep breath and subconsciously scanned the room, making a mental note of everyone who had just greeted Sebastian Forrest, wondering what I could say later to be of help to him.
"What is it?" Sebastian Forrest looked at me with amusement. "What are you muttering about?"
"I’m memorizing names and positions. If they come over to talk to you again later, I need to be able to match the faces so I don’t get them mixed up and embarrass you."
Sebastian Forrest’s lips curled into a smile. "Little junior, when you’re Sebastian Forrest’s date, you don’t need to do any of that."
?
I looked up at him, completely puzzled. "Then what am I supposed to do?"
"You don’t need to do a thing," Sebastian Forrest said with a low chuckle. "Just wait for people to come and curry your favor."
...
I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Just as I was about to say something, I caught sight of a familiar figure in my peripheral vision, and the smile on my face instantly froze.
—It was Theodore Grant and Clara Langley.
