Chapter 71: I Did Not Make A Sound (Ch.71)

Saffy’s lips stretched into a sinister grin, believing Neveah had accepted her fate because she knew she had no chance of escaping Saffy.

It was only natural for people to look down on and underestimate those they believed to be weak, this was the order of things... the strong was always in the right and the weak could only resign to their unfortunate fate.

"If I were to let out a scream, would you like to bet on if my voice would be heard all the way down the hall and call the attention of Alpha Dane and Luna Colleen... or not?" Neveah asked with a raised brow.

"The banquet is still ongoing, I only came up here after confirming Luna Colleen and Alpha Dane were still out there, no one would hear you scream." Saffy said with a scoff.

"You did not make your findings clearly. Vincent returned at the same time I did and should be sound asleep in his room right about now."

"Of course, you were a little too busy sneaking around that you would not hear the sounds of Luna Colleen and Alpha Dane returning a short time ago."

"Luna Colleen is in the final months o her pregnancy, she easily gets fatigued and cannot bear to be out for too long, naturally Alpha Dane would escort her back before the banquet is over, why must they stay until the end?" Neveah asked with a raised brow.

Saffy’s eyes widened slightly as she glanced over to the door before glancing back at Neveah.

"I will not be threatened by you! Before you can think to let out a sound, I will shut you up forever...do you reckon you would be quicker to scream than the time it would take for me to get from here to there?" Saffy demanded.

"Even if you do kill me, you will not be able to get out of here alive. This incense you have burning here is enough to wake up the dead, it will attract attention soon enough." Neveah pointed out.

It was silly of the pack doctor to come up to Neveah’s room while assuming everyone would still be at the banquet,

For someone who could not make a thorough plan, Neveah wondered how she had been able to successfully poison Luna Colleen all this while.

Neveah could only conclude it was due to the trust Luna Colleen had in Saffy, amongst the people who had previously taken care of Luna Colleen’s health, Saffy was one of them.

However Luna Colleen had said not to place suspicions on Saffy since she was a childhood friend and confidant, of course Neveah had insisted otherwise.

All Luna Colleen’s affairs could not be left to anyone else, no matter how trustworthy that person seemed, not until her pups were safely delivered.

Neveah was certain it had not taken Saffy much effort to slip the Moon Whisper poison into Luna Colleen’s meals, or perhaps her medicinal tonics.

Since she was so close to all of them, she could do it easily when either the head doctor or the chef were distracted.

It was clear Saffy had not thought out her plan clearly, she had only grown panicked to see Luna Colleen becoming more and more healthy and had decided to do something about it.

She must have bet all her hopes on this little chance the banquet had created and could not have expected that Neveah would catch her in the act.

Neveah could see her words had alarmed Saffy, it was already clear to her that she would be caught one way or the other, whether Neveah was dead or alive.

"Don’t you dare make a sound!" Saffy hissed as she lunged at Neveah in a flash.

As a werewolf, Saffy’s speed was faster than that of a human by over two times and had Neveah been a human, she would not have been able to see Saffy’s movement before Saffy tackled her down.

But in Neveah’s eyes, Saffy’s movement was unbearably slow and she casually stepped to the side, watching Saffy soar past her and crash into Neveah’s desk.

As Saffy crashed into the desk, the wooden desk broke from the force of the impact and everything that had been placed on it crashed down to the ground, creating a lot of noise.

"Veah? Are you okay? What was that noise?" Luna Colleen’s voice sounded from outside Neveah’s room and Neveah smirked as she stared down at a panicked Saffy.

"I did not make a sound...you did." Neveah reminded just as her door came open and Alpha Dane, Luna Colleen and Vincent stepped in.

"What is this choking scent?" Vincent grumbled in annoyance as he waved his hand over his nose just as all their gazes settled on Neveah who stood casually and Saffy who struggled to her feet.

"What is going on here? This awful smell woke Leen up and she insisted to come check it out." Alpha Dane complained before passing a glance to Saffy. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"And what is she doing here?" Alpha Dane asked.

"Nothing! I did nothing!" Saffy immediately exclaimed before Neveah could speak and Neveah raised a single brow.

"You did nothing...so how exactly did you find yourself in my room? Did I abduct you and bring you over here?" Neveah asked sarcastically as she headed over to her bed and took a seat.

"Do not speak any lies! I only came here to check on you, who knew that you would attack me?!" Saffy snarled immediately, turning to glare accusingly at Neveah.

Neveah scoffed beneath her breath, Saffy had done such a malicious evil to Luna Colleen yet now that it had come to this, she did not dare admit to it.

Saffy was a good friend of Luna Colleen’s, she must have believed Luna Colleen would take her word over Neveah’s and perhaps she would, Neveah was not sure if her word carried as much weight in Eclipse Hunt as they made it seem.

However regardless of if her words carried weight or not, the fact remained there was still enough evidence to prove Saffy’s crime, beginning from the fact that Saffy had no reasons to come into her room.

"I attacked you? With what skill did I achieve that? You are a werewolf and I am only human, do I even dare attack you?" Neveah asked in a blank tone.

"You..." Saffy began to accuse again but Neveah cut her off.

"I have only just met you for the first time at the banquet, you and I are not familiar in anyway...why would you want to check in on me?" Neveah asked again.

At this point, with the door wide open, the smell of the incense had wafted far out of the room and attracted even more attention and now, Beta Denver as well as a few other people had also arrived at Neveah’s room.

"Saffy? Why did you come to Veah’s room? If you wanted to check in on anyone, should I not be the one you check in on?" Luna Colleen asked in confusion.

"Veah has no association with the pack members yet, why would you want to check on her?" Alpha Dane also asked, staring between Neveah and Saffy.

"I...I just wanted to speak to the Princess about her mother." Saffy still defended.

"The Alpha Queen? How are you acquainted with Her Grace?" Luna Colleen asked, passing Neveah a glance.

Neveah shook her head, Saffy was digging herself a deeper grave and she did not even need Neveah’s help with it.

Saffy was probably not accustomed to dealing with suspicion and the scrutiny of others, it was why she could hardly utter a sound explanation and stumbled over her words.

It would have been in Saffy’s best interest of she had never said a word about the Alpha Queen, raising more suspicions from everyone observing.

"I...I..." Saffy stuttered.

"That’s enough, you obviously do not want to say the truth. What exactly are you stuttering about? I am tired, let Veah explain it." Alpha Dane said with a frown before passing an expectant look to Neveah.

"Someone broke my lock and snuck into my room, placing this sleeping incense here as well. I was in my washroom when I heard the sound of movement,"

"I came out to discover Saffy here messing with my drawers and searching for something so I hid myself and watched her."

"It came as a surprise to me when she pulled out the drawer of my bedframe and took the herb box with Colleen’s herbs within." Neveah began, her words sending Alpha Dane and Luna Colleen into stunned silence.

"She’s lying!" Saffy cried out but a glare from Alpha Dane silenced her.

"The key to the herb box is in her hands, she must have swiped it away when she approached me at the banquet. Alpha Dane knows I wear it around my wrist at all times."

"She poured a strange liquid over the herbs... the vial is still in her hands also, you can get another doctor or an Omega healer to check it and give a report on what it is." Neveah said with a casual shrug as she pulled off her covers and got into her bed.
