Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 694: Today Is Different ()
"You woke up just in time. Menarx and Imagor previously visited to discuss some affairs but they did not wish to disturb your rest and so they left. They will return within the hour." Everon began.
Neveah nodded slowly, at this point, she was already entrapped in the governing scene of the stronghold, there was no going back.
"The trial began a short time ago. The Lord and Lady of Ruby Scales oversee the procedure as we speak." Everon relayed to Neveah.
"The trial... I was asleep for half a day, I see." Neveah murmured, recalling she had scheduled the trial of the dark fairy and dark sorcerer for dawn.
"Adrienne got involved in the trial of a dark fairy? I would think she would stay uninvolved in matters pertaining to the Fae, as she has often done for this long." Neveah pondered over it aloud for a moment.
"The dark fairies and the Fae clan have long severed ties. The dark fairies are now an independent evil lurking the lands, a threat to the Fae also. You still hold reservations about Menarx’s rider?" Everon asked.
Neveah frowned slightly at the question. Menarx and Everon were blood related cousins, both from the same clan and family, naturally, Adrienne was now family to Everon.
Though Everon would not be as defensive as Menarx, when it came to Adrienne’s affairs, Neveah knew even Everon had long cast aside his doubts.
And Everon knew nothing about Menarx’s poisoning or the recent suspicions, clearly Menarx had no intentions of telling anyone.
Which meant Neveah also had to keep her reservations to herself.
’Narx, you place me in such a tight position...again.’ Neveah thought in displeasure.
"It just is an awkward situation... for her, I assume. Regardless, the annihilation of the Dark Fae clans is a scar left in the hearts of the Fae...a kin is a kin." Neveah replied to Everon with a casual shrug.
"The Fae should know better...but I fear they do not. I understand your concerns, it is unlikely the Fae are uninvolved with the Dark Fae. But Lady Adrienne..." Everon began to say, but Neveah interrupted him.
"I know your thoughts, Everon. You need not speak further." Neveah replied, dismissing the topic.
"The other affairs?" Neveah enquired of Everon.
"The shipment of channeling gems is en route to Dune City. The Fae has also withdrawn their battle fairies from the trade routes leading to the Mer seas." Everon reported.
"Diandre kept her word without us having to make another move. How impressive." Neveah lauded, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
"You did not leave her with much of a choice." Everon pointed out, slightly amused.
"She is well aware I have nothing to lose killing her, I would be doing some of her kind a favor instead. She values her life. She may be a lost cause, but she is a smart one." Neveah admitted.
"Indeed. Things on the Fae side of the world have been quiet, but it is only a few hours gone, we will need to keep a close eye." Everon commented thoughtfully.
"As long as Jian returns...we will have no reason to be wary of them. He only needs to return in time. For now, we are not at liberty to initiate aggression. We can only hope things remain quiet." Neveah said with a shake of her head.
"The rider council will convene to make their reports in a few days, they have requested you preside over in person. The lords of the fortresses have sent in reports of disputes surrounding their regions, Imagor will need your input. The trial is ongoing and there are many internal affairs to be resolved, like the aftermath of the situation at Scabbard and restoring their financial affairs."
"Lord River has regained consciousness and requests an audience with you. Dune City has sent in reports on the light hall and the construction of the quarter foil."
"They also seek to know what actions to take regarding the worshippers continuously crowding outside the city gates. They have grown more persistent after word of the plague coming to its end spread, they attribute it to your merit and seek your blessings. It has begun to interfere with the construction efforts. Conrad is at his wits end."
"You also need to decide on your living arrangements in Dragon Keep. These quarters...are not suitable." Everon reminded, glancing around Neveah’s attendant quarters.
"What will you attend first?" Everon asked Neveah.
Neveah breathed a sigh, rubbing her forehead gently to ease the ache that had already begun from just hearing of the listed duties.
"I still have to go through Asrig’s writings, it is the most urgent to me at this moment..." Neveah murmured beneath her breath.
"Affairs of the stronghold are now under your jurisdiction. You will need to find a place of importance in your heart for them, and find it soon. These are only the reports for the morning, noon will come with its own duties." Everon stated the obvious.
"I just woke up and so many things have happened to be reported. Was it always like this for Jian? How did he find the free time to detest me?" Neveah murmured beneath her breath.
Everon chuckled quietly at Neveah’s words.
"Tell Imagor if he has such free time to come visit me, he should handle the rider council and the Lords of the fortresses himself. I just became an influential figure and he wants to dump it all on me now? A few days ago, I wasn’t here and he and Kirgan were just fine." Neveah pointed out.
"A few days ago, the stronghold had not acknowledged you as the Dragon Queen. But today is different..." Everon left the words hanging.
"At least you have me to guide you temporarily. Eventually, you will have to find yourself a personal aide. Lord Rodrick will not do, he shares a bond with Our Liege alone and so they can work together, but it may not be the same for you." Everon advised.
"Lord Rodrick has requested you send your chosen aide over to him to undergo training."
"I see. Send Tara over to Lord Rodrick, Creator knows if I am stuck here, she has to be stuck with me." Neveah decided without hesitation.
"I will see Conrad’s reports first. But at the moment, I need a shower and a change of clothing." Neveah said with a sigh.
"Come in!" Everon called out.
Neveah’s eyes grew wide as a row of attendants marched into her quarters.
