Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 695: Mischievous One ()
Neveah slammed her door shut, heaving a sigh of relief to finally be rid of Everon and his ideas, as well as the unwelcome company he brought along with him.
At least a dozen attendants and Neveah was familiar with a few of them too. She had not set eyes on anyone familiar since her return and Neveah guessed Everon had summoned them back for this exact purpose.
Most attendants had been sent out of the Keep since the noble councils were dismissed, leaving only a minimal amount to keep domestic affairs of the Keep running uninterrupted.
But Neveah did not need all of that fuss at this moment, despite Everon’s contrary opinions.
’Are you alright?’ Neveah checked in with her wolf.
Finally left to herself, the concern for the usual occurrence she had experienced at her waking moment returned.
’I am fine, Veah.’ Neveah’s wolf reassured her.
Neveah frowned slightly, what they had experienced a short while earlier was a very far cry from fine, it was strange and concerning.
But Neveah did not insist, she knew her wolf was not clear on what had happened either and would not keep it from her if she was.
Neveah glanced at her bed where the attendants had left several changes of clothing.
Each was in a range of black and gold shades, but they were all dresses and there was no riding suit or riding dress amongst them.
Neveah knew this was because by the dragon culture, her first riding dress was meant to be gifted to her by her dragon. No one else had such rights or would dare overstep, unless Neveah directly requested it.
Neveah herself did not intend to take away the rights from Jian or Xenon, she was more than happy to wait.
The dresses the attendants had brought were simple, yet elegant, Neveah could guess they were mostly Davina’s work, with some input from Tara, since they were exactly to Neveah’s taste and not over the top.
They were also suspiciously similar to the dresses Neveah favored back in the Dunes, which made it obvious they had sought Tara’s opinion in some way.
It had only been half a day and Everon had already outdone himself, putting so many things in order when he rightly should have been too busy, given that he only just returned to the Keep after a long time away.
"The healer’s hall must not have much duties recently." Neveah decided.
There were still a few over the top dresses Neveah assumed was for significant occasions, much like the chain dress Davina had sent over for Neveah’s first appearance before the dragon court.
Neveah shifted her attention to the letter Everon had left behind. It was Conrad’s report and Neveah opened it, glancing through the contents.
It read just as Everon had related to Neveah, except that Conrad had some choice words for Neveah which essentially was a paragraph full of blames for leaving the White Dunes to him and Garron alone after assuring she would only be away for five days.
"It is not like I planned for any of this to happen." Neveah grumbled as she put the letter away.
Neveah sighed and headed to the washroom. There were many pressing issues at hand and so Neveah did not waste time getting ready for the day.
It was not long before Neveah was fully dressed, she did not bother with her hair, leaving it to frame her face untamed. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Neveah exited her quarters, making her way up to the second level where she knew Imagor and Kirgan already attended to the day’s reports.
Neveah pushed open the door to the study, rolling her eyes when Kirgan glanced up immediately, exhaling a sigh of relief.
"Neveah! I was beginning to think you would not make it!" Kirgan exclaimed in pleasant surprise.
"My Lady." Imagor greeted, inclining his head to a bow from where he sat.
Lord Rodrick was nowhere to be found, Neveah assumed he had domestic affairs to see about, and Tara was now his responsibility for a time too.
Kirgan was on his feet the next moment, vacating the second desk he occupied.
"I am needed at the trial." Kirgan announced, with a smirk.
Despite his antics, Neveah knew Kirgan’s words were true. Menarx was the only King’s guard overseeing the trial and it was only right there was a second opinion at such an important event.
The King’s guards were short of hands in the absence of Cassian who was more adept at governing affairs than the more carefree Kirgan.
"Go ahead." Neveah permitted whilst Imagor grumbled beneath his breath but said he did not protest.
"Check in on Zephyr and Kalia before you leave." Imagor reminded his brother.
"But of course." Kirgan agreed and he was gone in the next moment.
"Everon has informed me you will head to the highest level in a short time. I sorted through the reports that require your attention and narrowed it down to matters pertaining to the Dunes and it’s environs, I will see to the rest." Imagor said to Neveah.
"As for Lord River, he insists on speaking to you..." Imagor trailed off.
"I will take care of it, no worries." Neveah assured.
Imagor nodded gratefully and Neveah took a seat. She picked up the first scroll and glanced through it, it detailed the most recent update on the construction of the quatrefoil and after going through it, Neveah penned down a response to Conrad.
Neveah and Imagor worked in silence following that, and Neveah was not certain how long had gone by before the doors to the study came open.
Neveah did not need to glance over, she could tell who it was by scent.
"Lady Neveah." Kaliana greeted and Neveah hummed in response.
On instinct, Imagor stretched a hand out to his rider even before she got to him.
"Do you need me?" Imagor asked, placing aside the file he had been working on.
"I cannot find Zephyr. I was just wondering if he has come by here." Kaliana replied, glancing around for her son while taking Imagor’s offered hand.
"No. He has not been here." Imagor informed his rider, exchanging a look with Neveah who shook her head slightly.
"He should be hiding out in his usual spots." Imagor suggested.
"I have checked everywhere... everywhere he could be, but I cannot find Zephyr. It is almost noon and time for his flight lesson, Zephyr would never miss it." Kaliana said with a shake of her head, her tone thick with concern.
"When was the last time you were with him?" Neveah asked, also placing aside her work.
"An hour ago, when Kirgan came by." Kaliana related to Neveah.
"Zephyr is a mischievous child. Could he have snuck after him?" Neveah asked.
"Kirgan is headed to the trial..." Kaliana
said, her voice trailing off.
Imagor was up on his feet the next moment and Neveah followed suit.
