Chapter 693: Wait (Ch.694)

Neveah’s eyes snapped open and she sat up sharply on her bed, eyes wide and horrified.

A chilling cold feeling of terror ran down her spine, and within her chest, her heart raced rapidly, the rhythmical beats quickened and uneasy.

Her instincts were sharp and alert, her wolf spirit within her equally on edge. So alert, Neveah’s hearing was heightened to the point of picking up the sound of the blood flowing through her own veins and the path they coursed.

So vivid, Neveah could practically envision it. But with her senses at such a sensitive height, all the sounds surged around her, mixing up in a disorienting mesh.

Neveah’s senses were sensitive, but never this sensitive. She could usually still dampen them to some extent and Neveah willed a mental block, sealing off all external sounds to calm her mind.

’Calm...calm... precious.’ Neveah coaxed her wolf side, knowing most of these feelings were shared to her from her other half.

’I am trying.’ Neveah’s wolf thought back to her, her tone stiff.

Neveah could not even tell why, or what exactly had triggered this reaction from her wolf side, but she knew it could not be taken lightly.

Neveah lifted a hand to her chest, over her rapidly beating heart, her eyes were still wide with a mix of horror and now confusion at the unwarranted unease.

’What was this strange feeling?’ Neveah pondered over the strange occurrence. Completely unsettled by it.

Sensing a presence approaching close by, Neveah’s hands poised for attack, her claws elongating in a swift motion, glinting sharply in the dim lighting.

"Veah, be at ease. It’s only me." Everon’s reassuring voice reached Neveah as the curtains were pulled open to let the daylight into the room, banishing the darkness.

Neveah released a breath she had not even realised she was holding, the bright lighting was harsh on her eyes but it eased up a bit of her sensitivity and her hearing returned to normal.

Everon still stood by the window, his questioning gaze fixed on Neveah. His eyes were curious and discerning, there was no doubt he knew what had just happened.

But Everon kept his silence for a moment, allowing Neveah some time and Neveah was grateful for it.

"Is it safe to approach?" Everon verified from Neveah, still standing in place.

"Come." Neveah permitted, gesturing to the seat by her bed.

Everon walked over and took a seat, he reached a hand for Neveah’s forehead and Neveah flinched on instinct.

Everon frowned slightly but he waited, he was much accustomed to Neveah’s caution from their earliest encounters, his hand froze in place and let Neveah move her head to make the contact when she was at ease a moment after.

"It has been a while... since you were this cautious of me." Everon commented as he studied Neveah’s condition with his strange medical art.

"I must be unwell. Everything feels... unfamiliar." Neveah murmured, her eyes going closed as Everon completed his observation.

"You are physically exhausted from lending your magic for such a long time while your body is yet to adjust to it, and your body constitution still struggles to accept abilities that do not come natural."

"Facing the dark fairy alone was already pushing beyond your limits and whatever spell was being cast on you still took it’s toll on your soul, though unsuccessful."

"You are mentally exhausted by the sudden responsibilities you now shoulder and what this means for you, for the White Dunes and the stronghold at large."

"You are emotionally deprived in the absence of your beloved men, and the only remedy to your heartache is out of reach. Old injuries are yet to heal and new ones are added before recuperating."...you are not in the best of shapes indeed." Everon agreed.

"Tell me something I do not already know." Neveah muttered beneath her breath.

"I know my own condition, you do not need to make it sound like I am dying. I have been through worse than a separation, duties of great consequence and a few attempts on my life." Neveah said to Everon.

"You did not let me finish." Everon pointed out.

Neveah grunted beneath her breath but nodded her head for Everon to proceed.

"Despite all of that, your magic potential has strengthened through the life and death situations. You have become much stronger than most mages I know, and your wolf side will equally grow stronger as you heal."

"You have also fully accepted your new title mentally, and the reality that it has always been a part of you."

"I can assure you, you are in good health and as indomitable as ever, My Queen." Everon reassured.

"Do not be that person, Ron." Neveah replied, frowning at the title.

Everon smiled slightly, getting up to his feet, he fetched a glass of water and handed it to Neveah.

Neveah took a sip of the cold liquid and then downed the rest of the contents, before handing it back to him.

Everon placed it aside and then took a seat beside Neveah’s bedside again.

"What was that a moment ago? You woke up and I sensed...a murderous aura, like you wanted to kill someone." Everon finally posed the question.

"And when I stepped in, for a moment there, I felt your intention...to harm me." Everon added, his tone cautious.

Neveah winced visibly, she had not recognized Everon at all and she truly would have lunged had he not spoken up at that precise moment.

"I... I cannot explain it. There is something off with my wolf, give me some time to figure it out." Neveah admitted to Everon.

"Very well. I am here to assist in any way you may need." Everon reminded in a serious tone.

Neveah nodded in understanding and then Everon changed the topic.

"Demevirld? Has he returned to you?" Everon inquired worriedly.

"Not yet." Neveah said with a heavy sigh.

"Which means, you were still unable to merge your dreams?" Everon murmured.

Neveah shook her head slightly, her brows furrowed in concern.

"I cannot reach Jian and I do not dare reach for Demevirld, they might still be connected and I will cause Jian harm by interfering. All we can do now is wait... for Jian to come to me." Neveah said to Everon.
