Chapter 69: Someone Sneaking 2 (Ch.69)

Neveah’s brows furrowed slightly as she slowed down her heartbeat and then leaned against the door of her washroom,

Her ears twitched as she traced the movement of the stranger in her room, every step light and almost soundless but still audible to Neveah’s hearing.

"The incense must have put her deep to sleep by now, she is only a human afterall." The voice of the stranger murmured quietly.

Neveah frowned slightly as she realized the purpose of this incense was to put her to sleep so she did not awaken to the sounds of someone moving in her room till the stranger was done with his purpose.

The footsteps first went over to her bed and stopped by the side of her bed for a moment before the sound of her covers being pulled back was heard and then a grunt of annoyance followed soon after.

"She’s not in bed?" The voice of the stranger hissed, seeming surprised at Neveah’s absence from her bed, the stranger must have watched Neveah return and was certain she had gone to bed.

Neveah then heard shuffling feet and she could tell the eyes of the stranger had settled on the door to the washroom.

Other than her bedroom and her closet, the washroom was the only other place she could be, there were no other rooms in Neveah’s quarters.

And so it was expected that the stranger would come into her bathroom after failing to find her in her bed as she was meant to be.

Neveah could not understand just what this strange person was after, what exactly did he want coming into her room and checking if she was in bed,

Had the stranger come for her? Had someone sent him after her to get rid of her? Could it be that her father had found out about her secret and sent someone after her?

Or was it the Alpha Queen or Alessio who were after her even all the way yo the Eclipse Hunt Pack?

Or was this the spy of Eclipse Fang that was in the Eclipse Claw Pack and if it was, what exactly did he want?

Neveah was quick to grab a sound deflector and place it on her wall, thankfully she kept them handy in her clothing just in case she needed to take brutal measures against anyone at anytime.

Neveah drained the water from her bathtub and hid her clothing away, and then when she was certain it appeared as though no one had ever been in the washroom, she retrieved the sound deflector,

Neveah then slipped behind a corner, hiding herself from view just as her door came open and a figure stepped in, glancing around the washroom.

Neveah did not worry about her scent, the disturbingly sharp fragrance of the incense would ensure her scent was completely overwhelmed and no one would pick it up.

The stranger stepped in, glancing around her bath tub and then slowly approaching the corner where Neveah hid.

Neveah leaned against the wall, her hands clenching into a fist as she prepared herself for a fight.

However the stranger stopped a little ways away from where Neveah hid and then turned, heading to another corner.

After the stranger searched through her washroom and found there was no one within, the figure retreated back to her room, probably concluding Neveah had not returned to her room after the banquet.

Neveah waited for a moment before she stepped out from where she was hidden, wrapping her bathrobe tighter around herself, she headed towards the door of her washroom that was slightly ajar.

Peering out into her room through the small opening, Neveah watched the stranger search through her room, her cupboards and and her closet.

The back of the stranger was turned to Neveah and so Neveah could not see the face of the stranger or identify the person but from the silhouette she saw, this stranger was not a man but a female.

Neveah’s brows furrowed into a frown, wondering what exactly the stranger was searching for with such seriousness.

"It should be around here somewhere." The stranger murmured to herself.

The voice of the stranger sounded oddly familiar to Neveah but she could not quite place where she had heard this voice before.

Neveah had not interacted with any of the pack females, at least not to an extent where she had offended anyone enough for them to break into her room.

And what exactly did she have that they could want? She had not brought any precious item or jewelry from the Eclipse Palace, other than a few pieces of clothing and those Luna Colleen had gotten for her, Neveah had nothing else of value.

’Just kill the damned she wolf!’ Neveah’s wolf hissed in her mind and Neveah shook her head.

’No...we have to see what she is up to first.’ Neveah thought to her wolf.

The stranger searched through for a while, growing frustrated as time passed and then the stranger passed a glance to her bed and noticed the drawer at the side of her bedframe.

Neveah’s eyes narrowed as the stranger headed over to her bed and pulled open the drawer, and pulled out the box of herbs Neveah stored safely away, as close to her as possible.

It was at this point Neveah realized the stranger had not come for her at all, the stranger had come for a different reason entirely.

That box held in the stranger’s had, sealed with a lock that only Neveah could open and no one else, this box contained different compartments where the herbs Neveah used to administer Luna Colleen’s daily tonics were kept.

After being poisoned, Luna Colleen’s bloodstream had been contaminated and though Neveah had neutralized the poison, Luna Colleen’s pregnancy was extremely fragile.

The pups needed an external supply of nutrients Luna Colleen could no longer provide them and so Neveah had placed her on daily medications.

Each herb had been procured according to Neveah’s direction and Neveah concocted the tonics herself, leaving no part of it to anyone else.

From the herbs to the tonic, Neveah ensured it never touched another hand but hers and even Luna Colleen’s daily meals were personally approved by Neveah before she could touch them.

Neveah did not leave room for any flaws or mistakes, one could not tell who exactly had poisoned Luna Colleen with the Moon Whisper and what they would do when they realized Luna Colleen had been cured.

Over the past month, no one else was permitted to meet Luna Colleen if Alpha Dane, Vincent, Dechlan or Neveah was not right there with her and no one was allowed to make close contact.

They did not make it obvious to the pack members, but they kept their guard up against everyone and anyone, no one was free from suspicion and Neveah had reminded constantly that it was to remain so till Luna Colleen had safely put to birth.

And in the past month, Luna Colleen and her pups had visibly grown stronger and much healthier, her baby bump grew and she also grew chubby and experienced the usual pregnancy symptoms of fatigue.

Alpha Dane and Luna Colleen never stopped expressing their gratitude but Neveah took every chance to remind them that nothing was for certain till the pups were born.

It was why Alpha Dane and Vincent personally procured Luna Colleen’s herbs and Neveah would check them carefully before she stored them away in her herb box which no one else could access.

After an entire month had passed, Neveah had begun to believe she was even being too careful but just as she had expected, it seemed the culprit behind the poisoning was finally making a move.

Neveah did not reveal herself immediately, though rage surged within her as she watched the stranger struggle to pry open the locks within the herb box.

It could not be that easy since Dechlan and Vincent had gone to the locksmith in town and requested him to make this lock especially for this purpose.

There was only a single key to access that lock and Neveah had that key attached to her wrist band.

Recalling this, Neveah’s hand shot up to her wristband and realized it was gone, her wrist was completely bare and she had not even noticed when exactly it was snatched away.

’Damn it!’ Neveah thought to herself,

Her eyes widening when she saw the stranger pull out the exact key she carried around with her everywhere and began opening up the lock.

It took a moment as she tried the different lock combinations, twisting the key left and then right before she twisted it right and then left,

After a few more combinations, the lock clicked and the stranger pulled open the box before pulling out a little vial.

There was a clear, transparent liquid held within and Neveah immediately recognized it for what it was.

’It’s the extract from the Moon Whisper! An extremely potent brew!’ Neveah thought.
