Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 674: Endorsement ()
The door to the random room Neveah had entered came open. Neveah quietened her sobs but she did not bother glancing up to see who had just walked in, she could already sense Kirgan’s presence before he entered.
Neveah swiftly displayed as much composure as she could source for in her state, but it did not do much because the moment Kirgan stepped in, it was clear he could tell.
"Neveah..." Kirgan said uncertainly, standing by the door as he took in the scene.
Neveah winced visibly, that look of sympathy was what she detested the most. That look made her feel weak and helpless, much too fragile and all the things Neveah did not ever wish to be again.
"I...will get Tara." Kirgan quickly thought up a solution and was about to leave again but Neveah stopped him.
One witness to this side of her was already more than enough.
"No...no, I am fine. Do not... make this a big deal. I just need a moment." Neveah dissuaded Kirgan, her voice hoarse.
Neveah swiftly wiped the tears that slipped out her eyes whilst Kirgan turned back around and watched Neveah in silence.
Kirgan then walked over to Neveah and gestured to the spot beside her on the dusty floor of the small room.
"May I sit?" Kirgan asked Neveah for her consent.
Neveah glanced up at him in confusion, blinking back the tears that were still gathered in her eyes.
"Did you not come to relay something urgent to me?" Neveah asked Kirgan.
"I did. But it can wait... you need a moment, so take that moment. You may not be able to...when you hear what I have to say. I will just sit, I do talk a lot but I will not say a word this time, I swear it." Kirgan said to Neveah in a serious tone.
Neveah just stared up at Kirgan for a moment, she understood what his words meant.
It was a show of support in the little way he could, knowing there was not much comfort he could offer.
Neveah nodded slowly, and Kirgan sat by her side, still maintaining a respectful distance.
He leaned against the wall too and just stared ahead, as he had said before, he said not a word. He did not ask to know why Neveah was in such a state or attempt to say any words of comfort.
He just sat there, and it made Neveah understand much more than any other act could have, that she was not alone.
And Neveah did try to hold back her sobs but she could not and so she let it out, sobbing quietly with her head cradled in her hands.
Neveah was not certain for how long she sobbed, but Kirgan sat by her side in silence through it all. Till her sobs died down and Neveah just sat there, feeling drained.
After a short moment of just sitting in silence, Neveah wiped her tears and cleared her throat.
"You may speak now." Neveah said to Kirgan.
Kirgan glanced over at Neveah, he smiled slightly and pulled out a clean handkerchief, offering it to her.
Neveah accepted it, wiping her tears properly. She was certain she looked a mess but she did not really care much about it.
"The Fae representatives are urgently requesting portal permission into Keep Skies. The Fae have avoided interactions since the breaking and have blatantly ignored laws, requesting an audience at this time..." Kirgan trailed off.
"It can only be because they are well informed of what has just happened and wish to take advantage of it." Neveah murmured in understanding.
"Lord River?" Neveah asked.
Kirgan shook his head slightly indicating it was not looking good.
"They will demand to settle scores, capitalizing on Lord River’s life." Neveah guessed.
"It is not just Lord River... the dwarf king also and a few mers previously captured." Kirgan reported in a grim tone.
"All people whose death sentences can only be decided by a unified council. If the Fae is here, the representatives of the other tributary races will not be far behind...which means, we will be pressed on all sides." Neveah predicted.
"They will demand a unified council, knowing we do not have anyone to preside over it." Neveah said with a heavy sigh.
"Only that we do..." Kirgan said to Neveah in a serious tone.
"The King’s guard can only preside over the unified council with the authority of all five. Cassian and Xenon are not here, if the King’s guard presides the council, the tributary races will have something to nitpick over."
"The only sole authority that can preside the council is Jian, he is also not here." Neveah said with a shake of her head.
"Jian is not the only one." Kirgan said again.
"By law, the unified council can be presided independently by the royal authority. Which includes, the Dragon King... his rider, or any of the King’s heirs." Kirgan continued, fixing Neveah with a pointed look.
"The rider council will never approve. Presiding the unified council will only be possible if the rider council endorses me as Dragon Queen, which is hardly possible in Jian’s absence. I only took the step I did to avoid being haunted by the council." Neveah said to Kirgan with a sigh.
"Circumstances have changed." Kirgan said.
He provided a scroll and handed it to Neveah.
Neveah frowned slightly, taking the scroll, she rolled it open and read through the contents.
"By royal law, all academies recognise the Dragon King’s bond. The rider council also unanimously acknowledge the Dragon King’s bond and endorses Lady Neveah Vairheac of the White Dunes...as Dragon Queen..." Neveah trailed off, glancing up at Kirgan.
"Why?" Neveah asked.
"A moment ago, with the blast of golden light...you did something that had not been done in centuries. Rather than wielding Demevirld, you activated the golden scale and manipulated it’s abilities. Neveah... every dragon in a certain proximity of Dragon Keep sensed you were in danger."
"To communicate with multiple dragons at a time...this is an ability only the golden scaled dragons have exhibited since the beginning of time." Kirgan revealed to Neveah.
