Chapter 673: Equivalent (Ch.674)

’Bonded to her for all eternity...’ Whispers the haunting voice.

’A tribute worthy of My Liege...’ He says in despair.

’Let us find her sooner...’ A weak and dying voice pleads.

’In this life and any other that may come after it...’ The haunting voice hisses

’Overrun with fire and blood...’ He vows in solemnity.

’My first gift to her... and perhaps my last...’ Upon his final breaths.

’Lead me to her sooner...my brother...’ Filled with hope.

’The new world...’ Vicious and deadly promise.

’Only if she lives... can I live...’ His regrets are palpable.

’Fire and blood...’ He vows.

’Fire and blood!’ He vows.

The words echoed repeatedly in Neveah’s mind, darkness clouded her vision yet the echoes only grew louder and more resounding.

"Leon! What is happening?! What are you doing?! Perform the extraction! Get her soul out and summon the portal!" Celeste hissed with urgency.

"Lady Celeste, soul extraction can only be forced this far. She is resisting desperately!" Leon snapped in response.

"Veah! Veah! What are you doing to her?! Break through the barrier!" Everon’s familiar voice called out.

There was a repeated slamming noise and Celeste’s panicked hisses, a cacophony of sounds pierced through Neveah’s consciousness, blending in with the voices that constantly whispered those words in her mind.

Neveah felt a great pressure rising within her and in a moment, her eyes snapped open, a burst of golden light exploded out of her.

Her bones cracked and reformed of their own volition, till her wolf form stood in the cell, gigantic and towering. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

"Summon the portal! Now, Leon!" Celeste hissed.

This time, Neveah did not lunge, her claws moved swiftly, ripping across the wall to destroy the portal runes.

Celeste shrieked in rage, and as Neveah’s gaze rounded on her, she retreated warily.

"I believe that is Neveah’s way of saying, you will not be going anywhere..." Imagor’s voice interrupted the tense atmosphere.

Neveah made to lunge again, itching to dip her claws in blood but a sharp ache tore through her skull and Neveah’s vision grew hazy and unfocused.

’Bonded to her for all eternity...’ The whispers still echoed in her mind.

Neveah shook her head slightly to clear her vision but being in wolf form was not helping.

"Veah!" Everon called to Neveah, hurrying over to her.

"You show up now?" Neveah asked as she reverted back to her human form, ignoring Celeste’s shrieks.

A dragon lord had seized Celeste and magic dampening cuffs were being forced around her neck.

Meanwhile Leon said not a word as he was dragged away by the dragon lords.

"The cell hall was guarded by shadow beasts and the cell was warded off with a barrier, forgive our late arrival." Imagor apologized guiltily.

"Are you hurt?" Everon asked worriedly.

"Nothing that will not heal, check on Lord River." Neveah instructed Everon, her voice hoarse.

Another sharp ache pierced through Neveah’s skull and a nauseous feeling overwhelmed her strongly.

Her vision still switched in and out of focus and Neveah staggered slightly, reaching a hand out blindly for balance.

Imagor swiftly took Neveah’s arm, steadying her.

"My Lady?" Imagor asked in concern.

Neveah’s chest grew tight, like her airway was closing up or there was just not enough breathable air down here in the dungeons.

"I am fine...wrap things up here and report back." Neveah murmured quietly.

Neveah pulled her hand away gently and swiftly took her leave from the dungeons, ignoring a concerned looking Menarx whom she encountered down the hallway.

"Veah? Veah!" Menarx called but Neveah did not respond as she swiftly made her exit.

When Neveah had emerged from the underground dungeons completely, it was only then she finally felt like she could breathe.

Memories from all she had witnessed flashed through her mind in quick succession and the nauseous feeling grew stronger.

Neveah hurried down the hallway, pushing open the door to a random room on the ground floor, she hurried over to the washroom where she leaned over the wash basin, hurling out the contents of her stomach.

Even when her stomach was emptied, Neveah dry heaved. Her stomach cramped severely and the heaving it carried on for a short time before Neveah stepped out into the room.

Whoever the quarters belonged to had been away for a long time, though the attendants still tidied up the Keep as was their routine, the room Neveah was in had a thin layer of dust.

Neveah did not mind it, she lowered herself to a sitting position on the floor, and leaned against the wall, taking deep breaths in to steady her rapid breathing.

Her eyes stung badly as silent tears streamed down her cheeks and Neveah clutched fistfuls of her hair, tugging harshly so the pain she felt overwhelmed the pain pulsing in her heart, but it was still a far stretch,

The memories of Jian’s cold, lifeless eyes staring back at her would not fade from her mind.

And neither would the repeated thought; ’He died because of me...’

’Because I was too weak to protect myself. Because I was too trusting despite being given nothing to trust in... because I feared to live a life other than what Lothaire Raul intended for me...’

’So I died... and I took him down with me...’ Neveah thought in despair.

Her death had been a constant source of despair even in this new lifetime, a cold and dark memory that she could never get beyond even while she lived.

But at this moment, it became all the more horrifying...to realise the consequences of her death, that she had failed to realise in those times that her life meant so much to one person that it was literally equivalent to his own.

Neveah had thought her death was not loathsome to anyone, that the injustice was felt by her alone, but now she knows better.

"Alessio killed me...but it was I who killed Jian. But even so...he chose to bring me back, giving up Demevirld to me... this life...all along, was Jian’s gift...to me..." Neveah whispered, tears streaming down her cheeks.
