Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 672: Atonement ()
Neveah knew without a doubt that it was indeed Xenon, and her eyes grew wide as he lowered his head,
His shoulders trembled, and loud sobs echoed from him.
"Xenon...Xenon..." Neveah called anxiously, but her calls fell on deaf ears.
Xenon could not hear her as he sobbed his heart out, crying and roaring out his pain in utter devastation.
Neveah’s heart pulsed painfully, she sucked in a deep breath to suppress the pain and made her way over to Xenon, her teeth gritting against each other as each step forward sent excruciating pain through her.
But Neveah pressed on, one step after the other brought her closer to the sobbing Xenon till she was close enough to see that there was someone held in his arms.
With Xenon’s large build, Neveah could not see who it was, but Xenon’s cries were so heart wrenching, that Neveah’s heart shriveled up in terror.
A few steps further and Neveah’s eyes widened, the strength left her legs as she fell to the ground, gazing in horror at a barely breathing Jian.
His silver hair was wet and clung to his face and he gasped for breath, his eyes stared ahead, gaze unfocused and his breaths came out with difficulty.
"Jian!!! No!!! Noo!!!" Xenon shrieked.
A sound that shook Neveah to her core as she watched, frozen in place save for shudders of horror.
Neveah shook off her shock, she dragged her body across the ground, fingers digging into the mud to propel herself forwards, as pained tears streamed down her cheeks.
"Xe... Xenon..." Jian’s weak voice gasped out, followed by choked gasps.
’He sounded so weak...too weak...’
"Save your strength... save your strength brother..." Xenon sobbed out, there was a lingering drawl in his words... like his words would sound all that time ago, when he was still afflicted by the wild haze.
"You... must overcome the haze. You...are to...be King..." Jian forced the words out with difficulty, 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
’These were his... final orders...’ Neveah realized.
"You...will inherit...my bloodline..." Jian continued.
"I... cannot...be at peace, if you do not...so promise me...swear it..." Jian insisted urgently.
"No...no please...no..." Xenon sobbed desperately,
Pleas Neveah echoed, but they all fell on deaf ears.
"Swear it!" Jian urged.
"As you...command...My Liege..." Xenon whispered, his tone trembling.
"Who would have thought... after centuries of battles... and bloodshed... the golden scaled would fall in foreign land...to the severing?" Jian released a mirthless chuckle, a gasp following afterwards.
"I am tired... I failed to protect...my beloved. I will leave... with her... this is my... atonement. If...if there...is another life...let us... find her... quicker..."
"Lead me...to her...sooner...my brother..." Jian whispered, his tone grew even less audible with the passing second.
And Neveah trembled, her eyes wide with horror.
"The severing..." Neveah whispered.
"He is dying... because of me?" Neveah realized in horror.
"He died... because of me?!" Neveah asked, her voice shaky and hoarse.
"Jian! Jian! Jian!!!" Xenon roared.
"I will kill them all!!!!! I will wipe out the werewolves from existence!!! Every last one of them!!!!" Xenon roared, his shoulders shaking with rage and despair.
At that moment, a loud thud shook the earth, Neveah could tell the sound of a dragon landing without having to see. Neveah glanced up, to find four familiar faces dashing over.
"Menarx...Kirgan...Cassian... Imagor..." Neveah murmured the names of the King’s guard as they dropped to their knees by Jian’s side.
"Who?! Who?!!!" Menarx roared, his eyes blazing with murder as he took Jian’s hand in his.
Jian displayed a weak smile at the sight of his brothers.
"Give us a name, Xenon... Give us a name!" Cassian hissed, slamming a fist into the ground.
Imagor tilted his head back, a loud roar ripped out of him like he was being torn apart from within.
And Kirgan sobbed, his fist slamming against his own chest.
Xenon did not respond, he was quiet for the longest moment before he gently laid Jian’s body down and got up to his feet.
"King’s guard...heed my orders..." Xenon said slowly.
"My first decree as Dragon King..." Xenon continued.
All four men glanced up at Xenon, not in surprise but with a renewed perspective. It seemed they had all known who would be the next Dragon King already.
"The werewolf race...will be wiped out...from existence..."
"History...will never remember... such a race....their lands will be overrun, with fire... and blood..."
"Every life...on this end of the sea...will be wiped out..."
"The world as we know it...will begin and end... with the stronghold. Beyond the stronghold... nothing else but death, and devastation...will exist. This...will be the tribute worthy of My Liege...the new world..." Xenon announced.
He gazed up at the sky for a moment and then he glanced over his shoulder,
Neveah watched his gaze settle on her deceased body, and then it moved back to Jian’s body.
"This... came to us..." Menarx said to Xenon, pulling out a familiar oak box.
He handed it to Xenon and Xenon examined the box for a moment before he placed it down by Jian’s side.
"Brother... I will return to you...but only when the world...is up in flames..." Xenon whispered.
Xenon strode away and Neveah called to him, but he did not look back and the King’s guard except Kirgan left with him, their dragon forms taking to the skies not long afterwards.
Kirgan continued sobbing, guarding Jian’s side.
Neveah was completely shaken by all she had just seen and heard, but now, she crawled the remaining distance over to Jian.
"Do you realize that your death will be the end of everything? How could you... how could you go with me? How could you?... How can I ever pay for this wrong I have done you? How?" Neveah sobbed her heart out.
The oak box by Jian’s side began to gleam slightly and Neveah’s eyes widened as the box unlocked on its own and a glowing golden mass of energy hovered over Jian.
"Save him... save him..." Neveah begged, even though she knew no one could hear her... she was not a part of this timeline, only a bystander.
She could not change the events that had happened.
"My host... I can bring you back, if you hold my hand..." Demevirld’s familiar voice sounded from the glowing mass, addressing Jian.
Jian’s eyes fluttered open weakly, and he stared at the glowing mass.
"If...it can be just one of us...then go to her... I pass you on...to her..." Jian said.
"Jian!" Kirgan exclaimed in dismay, but Jian ignored him.
"If you do this, I will be bonded to her for all eternity...in this life and any other that may come after it. I am your royal inheritance...are you certain?" Demevirld’s voice asked to confirm.
"I am certain... that only if she lives... can I live. This is my first gift to her... and perhaps my last." Jian decided.
