Chapter 64: A Gift From The Alpha King (Ch.64)

"That’s enough for today, we should return so you may get some rest." Alpha Dane said to Neveah as he stretched a hand down to her. Neveah took his offered hand and let him help her up to her feet.

Neveah released a quiet groan of pain as she stretched her limbs to ease the ache she felt all over, her muscles crying out from exhaustion after hours of training.

"Is it awfully painful?" Alpha Dane asked as Neveah released another groan of pain.

Neveah lifted a blank gaze up to him, wondering how he could even ask her such a question after sending her crashing to the ground and into trees over a dozen times in the space of a few hours.

And he was never light or gentle about it too, always reminding Neveah that her enemy would not be light and gentle,

Neveah was beginning to feel she would be broken into a thousand pieces one of these days and would not live to even meet an enemy.

"Pray tell, what do you think?" Neveah asked in a deadpan tone and Alpha Dane chuckled at her salty tone.

"Do not be so petty, Veah. All who get trained at my hands are subject to this at one point or the other. You will get used to it." Alpha Dane assured with a smirk.

"Get used to finding my face in the dirt? I should think not." Neveah replied as she stood up straight after stretching out her cramped muscles.

"With each passing day, you only grow stronger, you are a fast learner too."

"I hate to admit, I was not expecting much when you requested for me to train you in combat but I stand corrected."

"The improvement you have shown in the past month had taken me at least a year to achieve in my days of training." Alpha Dane commended as they made their way through the forest at a leisure pace.

Trailing the path they always took back to the pack house after their secluded training in an isolated part of the forest surrounding the Eclipse Hunt Pack

"It is only because you are patient and attentive to my training. I have you to thank for everything so far." Neveah said honestly.

"That is where you are wrong. You are born with a King wolf, your human side is also naturally gifted. I barely have to make any efforts." Alpha Dane said with a shake of his head.

"The effort you make is already sufficient. To be honest, I have found it hard to decide if my wolf was a blessing to me or a curse. This has weighed heavily on my heart for the longest time." Neveah murmured with a sigh.

Alpha Dane passed Neveah a look before he returned his gaze to staring ahead.

"Our wolves are an integral part of our existence. They are the most essential part of us, even. You may be two different entities, your wolf and you but in actuality, you are one and the same." Alpha Dane began,

"Naturally if you regard yourself to be a blessing, then so is your wolf. And if you regard yourself to be a curse, your wolf is such as well. You must decide what you are to yourself Veah... this is not a decision anyone or anything can make for you."

"It equally cannot be defined by your past, only what you believe is the truth. You have been with us for a month already and in this past month, the ground has not opened up neither has the sky collapsed."

"If you are to be a curse, I must say, you are not doing a very good job of it." Alpha Dane pointed out and Neveah chuckled softly.

"Indeed, I will have to return to the drawing board and seek a better plan." Neveah accepted and Alpha Dane rolled his eyes.

"Your days in Eclipse Fang are past now, I should think as the days pass by...it will get easier to leave these considerations behind." Alpha Dane said in a solemn tone.

"Perhaps." Neveah replied with a nod and for the rest of the way, they continued on in silence, each lost in their own thoughts.

As they broke through the cover of trees, emerging at the back entrance of the pack house, a familiar voice called out to Neveah and her eyes widened slightly.

"Lucas? What are you doing here?" Neveah asked as Lucas Varleston of Eclipse Claw jogged up to meet her from where he had been standing beside Luna Colleen.

"Why does it seem like you are not happy to see me?" Lucas asked suspiciously and Neveah rolled her eyes though her lips twitched slightly.

"He came all the way over here to reveal your deception!" A fuming Luna Colleen snapped, storming over to Neveah and Alpha Dane hurried to aid his heavily pregnant mate.

"My deception? What is she talking about?" Neveah asked Lucas as Luna Colleen arrived before her, glaring up at Neveah.

"Do we need to hear from the Eclipse Palace that you are to be turning a new summer?!" Luna Colleen demanded and Neveah stiffened, her heart freezing up at the mention of the Eclipse Palace.

"Leen." Alpha Dane called his mate’s attention to the words she had just said and Neveah’s reaction and it was only then Luna Colleen recalled Neveah and the Eclipse Palace were not on the best of terms.

"Veah... I..." Luna Colleen began to explain but Neveah shook her head slowly.

"It’s fine...I see my father sent word." Neveah murmured, her hands clenching into fists as she turned to Lucas expectantly.

"My father and I paid a visit to the Eclipse Palace to report on a rogue situation and the Alpha King ordered me to deliver you a gift on his behalf for your eighteenth birthday tomorrow." Lucas revealed, unsure as to why Neveah and the Eclipse Hunt wolves reacted in such a manner.

Lucas was still unaware of the truth Neveah had revealed to the Eclipse Hunt wolves, and so he would not understand what his words meant to Neveah and how unwelcomed they were at this time.

"He still has not let go of this idea." Neveah murmured to herself, realizing her father still intended to set her up with Lucas Varleston.

Even when she was so far away from the Eclipse Fang Pack, he was still trying to control her life as it pleased him.

"What?" Lucas asked uncertainly and Neveah shook her head, it was not Lucas’s fault and she would not take out her anger on him.

It had been a month since she had last heard the Eclipse Palace or the Eclipse Fang mentioned, the Eclipse Hunt wolves avoided speaking of it around her and Neveah had said nothing of it too.

It was not as though Neveah did not know her father had repeatedly sent word to Alpha Dane about her well being but Neveah was grateful Alpha Dane did not burden her with it.

"What gift does he have for me?" Neveah asked in a more calmer tone.

"I am not certain, Dechlan took it up to your room and I came out here to wait for you." Lucas said.

"But really Veah, how is it to be your eighteenth birthday tomorrow and Luna Colleen and Alpha Dane do not know of it?" Lucas asked.

"My point exactly." Luna Colleen huffed out, recalling her rage.

"I do not know the day of my birth...my father was not present when I was conceived or after my birth, he knows only of when I was left at the doorstep of the Eclipse Palace..."

"I was left to my Governess afterwards, I never saw my father till I turned four summers."

"My day of birth has never been marked or celebrated either, the Alpha Queen would not hear of it and so I do not know which day my eighteenth birthday falls on,"

"I only know the age I turn at the beginning of each summer and the day I was found outside the Eclipse Palace."

"How can I tell you what I myself do not know? The Alpha King wants to play a doting father, it is his favorite game and you all are a part of it." Neveah murmured.

"Do convey his daughter’s gratitude to him and tell him I long for the day I can return to his side." Neveah concluded through gritted teeth as she strode away,

Leaving behind a shocked Lucas as well as Alpha Dane and Luna Colleen who stared after her with sympathy.

Neveah did not want to see the looks of sympathy on their faces, she did not need anyone’s sympathy.

As Neveah strode into the pack house, she brushed past Dechlan, ignoring his baffled look as she headed up to her room and slammed the door shut behind her, taking note of the gift box on her bed.

As Neveah opened the box slowly, she frowned slightly to see a beautiful snow white fur coat within and a note written in her father’s writing.

The note read: "The winter draws near, Veah. As the first snow began to trickle, I was reminded of your mother...with hair as white as snow, her name was Eira..."
