Chapter 635: Aftermath of Contamination (Ch.636)

"Hurry up! Take it all out and set it ablaze!" Dante called out to the guards that manned a mechanism, pulling rocks out of the stream.

"Have them clear out the bed of the stream too. There and over at the waterfall, the contamination is just as severe there." Lord Mycroft instructed a few of his subordinates.

The source of the contamination had been discovered to be the beast’s slime and at this very moment, the dragon lords intently cleared out the stream.

There were also two mages present, urgently summoned through a portal from the academy of magic and they guided the process of dispelling the dark magic aura of the beast.

With their efforts, the cloaking spell had already been lifted and all Neveah had seen through Demevirld’s ability and even what she did not see, the extent of contamination was now visible to all eyes.

The water itself was completely contaminated, though the beast lurking within had been destroyed, there were residues of the dark spell everywhere and the bottom of the stream was covered with black slime from the beast and a number of other unspeakable substances.

While the mages ensured the influence of dark magic was completely lifted, Lord Mycroft and his subordinates attempted to repair the contamination.

"Oh scales..." Tara grunted.

Neveah passed a look over to Tara who gagged as a large rock was pulled out of the stream, covered by a thick layer of black slime and goo.

It was truly alarming to see that this level of contamination and toxicity had been supplied through all the water systems in the city and everyone had been completely ignorant to it.

The entire water supply had adapted to the habitat of the slimy beast and it was a revolting sight.

"I literally drank from the Scabbard tower a few times, I can’t believe this is what the entire fortress has been ingesting... I feel sick..." Tara lamented.

"I never knew dark magic could be so utterly... disgusting." Estelle said with a shake of her head.

"In those times, there were countless experiments performed by the dark lord to create monstrous creatures with different abilities, things he called his pets...my guess is, this is but one of them."

"What it is doing out here though...now, that is a question." Everon said from where he stood beside Neveah.

Estelle also looked ready to hurl but she maintained her composure and patted Tara’s back to soothe her.

"At least you have only been here for a day, some of us have been here since the plague began." Estelle reminded Tara.

Tara gagged again, her hand shot up to her lips and she shook her head, scrambling over to a tree.

Neveah’s brows furrowed slightly, settling her system so she did not react to the sight as Tara was.

The dragon lords seemed completely unaffected and Neveah knew it was only because they were more concerned with purifying the water supply as soon as possible than giving thought to how much of it they had consumed in the past month.

"Veah, do you think you would want to return to the tower first? You need to change out of those damp clothes and get your wound cleaned and bandaged. This will take more than a few days and your injuries have not fully healed." Dante suggested, walking over to them.

"Dante is right, you are still bleeding." Estelle agreed, pointing to Neveah’s shoulder that had been caught by the slashing tail of the beast.

The wound on Neveah’s thigh was not known to them yet as it was not obvious.

Neveah rolled her shoulder slightly, she had forgotten about her wounds and it was only now the pain returned.

It was not bleeding as severely as it had been but it still bled and the pain was excruciating, but nothing Neveah was not already accustomed to.

"It might be slow because of the effects of dark magic, but it will heal. The beast is dead too, so the wound is not infected with dark toxin as there was with the troll golem...it will heal just fine." Neveah assured.

"Rather than my wounds, I fear we will require an unmentionable amount of beetvine and iron husk roots to have everyone treated to full recovery, dragon lords included...there may have been no visible effect on them, but we cannot take chances." Neveah murmured to Dante.

"You are right, dragons can also fall ill. We should put everyone in consideration, I will let my father know and on Lord Menarx’s return, we may decide how to go about this... given the tensions with the Fae." Dante said in agreement before he strode over to Lord Mycroft.

"If we did not almost get killed by a beast, were you just not going to say anything?" Everon whispered over to Neveah, asking the same question in a different way for almost the dozenth time.

Neveah sighed in exasperation, diverting her focus from the mages that presently chanted magic spells to cleanse the water source.

"It does not matter how many times you ask, Everon. My answer is the same, there was just not an opportune moment to speak of it given all that happened... I did not intend to withhold this information from you, neither did I count on making an official announcement of it either." Neveah murmured.

"Jian did not speak of if he wanted it revealed or kept a secret, I only spoke out of necessity... and you are not in any position to question me about withholding information." Neveah added, fixing Everon with a pointed glare.

Everon frowned slightly at that, rolling his eyes.

"That is a different scenario." Everon said.

"How so?" Neveah countered.

"In any case, you should have told us the moment you contacted Jian for the first time. Everyone may act like all is well, but it is only because duties must be executed regardless. We all have been so deeply worried." Everon insisted.

"I do know that." Neveah murmured, deciding to take a step back this time.

"Did His Grace leave us a message?" Everon asked Neveah. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"For this, he did say to exercise discretion. When Menarx returns... we three will speak more of it." Neveah said to Everon.
