Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 636: The Right Way or My Way ()
"Does it hurt?" Tara asked Neveah in concern.
Neveah shook her head slightly, lifting her arm so Tara could properly secure the bandage around her shoulder.
"Veah? It’s Everon." Everon’s voice came from the door.
"One moment." Tara responded in Neveah’s place.
Fetching Neveah’s shirt, she helped Neveah put it on and when Neveah was decent, she permitted Everon to come in.
"Come in." Neveah said quietly, adjusting her position on the bed.
Neveah winced visibly as the movement put pressure on her wounds.
The door came open and Everon strode in, he was accompanied by Menarx also.
"How is it?" Neveah asked the two, rolling her shoulders slightly in an attempt to ease the discomfort.
"Do not do that, you will worsen your wounds." Everon lectured, a frown settled on his face.
"There is no need for any of this, it will heal on its own." Neveah pointed out.
"If it was any one of us injured and we refused to comply with the healer’s advice, what words would you have to say?" Menarx asked Neveah, his tone amused.
"Right..." Neveah murmured, Neveah let her hand dropped to the side, heaving a quiet sigh.
"The water supply will take at least a few days before it can be in use again, but the Scabbard authorities will work tirelessly on it...in the meantime, all water supplies have been cut off in the city and a ban has been placed on the use of any water sourced from the city environment." Everon relayed to Neveah.
"Water... how will the city cope without it for even a few days? There are thousands of people here, water is essential for their survival... especially those who are still infected." Neveah asked in concern.
"The academy of magic will dispatch some water mages, they will forge a temporary, magic dependent water supply for the time being. Lord Mycroft already has it all in hand." Menarx related to Neveah.
Neveah nodded in understanding, leaning back against the headboard.
"And the sorcerer?" Neveah asked.
Menarx shook his head slightly to indicate they had not been able to track him down yet.
"We have the city under lockdown and the flight patrol man the skies, but the one thing the black network is most skilled at is evading dragon kind." Menarx reported regretfully.
"They have done so for centuries already, it would be surprising if they are so easily caught." Neveah murmured in understanding.
"We will capture him at any cost, Veah. He targeted you, which means the black network has finally begun showing their hands and they have their eyes on you...we cannot afford to have them running rampant at this time." Menarx said in a serious tone.
"The King is gone and all the runts have come out to play... the stronghold needs cleansing, it has been long coming." Everon murmured, taking a seat.
Neveah passed a look to Tara, gesturing to the door.
"Give us a moment." Neveah said to Tara.
Tara nodded and left the room, leaving Neveah in the company of Menarx and Everon alone.
When they were certain they were alone, Menarx spoke up.
"What are Jian’s orders? What can I do?" Menarx asked dutifully.
The response came like a second nature to Menarx, Neveah could see there was neither question nor hesitation in his eyes and the depth of Menarx’s loyalty to Jian was comforting to Neveah.
"Jian...has requested the records of Asrig stored in the hidden archives." Neveah revealed and then waited for her words to sink in.
Everon’s eyes widened slightly, he exchanged a look with Menarx and they both looked back to Neveah in horror.
"I do not know for what purpose he needs it and yes, I am fully aware that those records have been outlawed for centuries and contain information on dark spells that are not to see the light of day..." Neveah trailed off.
"I do not think you understand, Neveah. A...Asrig..." Everon trailed off, the name sounding foreign on his tongue. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
"Asrig is...was the only dragon known to ever dabble in dark magic, even winning the loyalty of the surviving dark sorcerers and appointing them to royal service as the Signe Tribe."
"In his bid to build a power similar to High King Agardan’s magic ability, Demevirld. Asrig was willing to do anything but the right thing."
"He was obsessed with the dark lords tactics and methods, even his tyranny and sought to replicate it for himself. Especially when he realised dragons could actually wield magic." Everon trailed off, looking to Menarx for help.
Menarx exhaled heavily as he also took a seat and carried on from where Everon left off.
"Asrig grew even more obstinate and depraved when High King Agardan did not leave Demevirld to him at his death, making the easiest route to his dream, which was darkening Demevirld’s magic base, futile."
"His interest in dark magic was deeply rooted for decades even before he ascended the throne, it only became more apparent with the ultimate power at his disposal...Asrig is the shame of our kind, Neveah."
"A name shunned for a good reason. His records are a manifestation of his dark thoughts, ideas and experiences before and after he became dragon king, not even Jian knows fully the level of depravity contained in those writings... the council will never hear of this." Menarx said in a serious tone.
"I fully understand that only a select few can access the hidden archives and I have no authority to do so. I equally understand that it is a great risk to let such a record leave its storage, especially when there is only my word to go by,"
"But if this is what Jian wants, I will get it to him. I can do it in the right way or I can do it in my own way, either way, I will get my hands on it. If you want to help me, you can only trust me." Neveah said to Menarx and Everon directly.
Menarx and Everon were both quiet for the longest time before Menarx spoke.
"Then we must return to Dragon Keep..." Menarx murmured
