Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 621: A Dark Tower ()
A grunt of pain escaped Xenon as his eyes slowly fluttered open. He squinted slightly, his eyes taking a moment to adjust to the strange, dim red lighting and when it did, Xenon found himself staring up at an unfamiliar ceiling.
He was in a room with entirely stone walls, bare stone walls that bore no familiarity to him and lining the walls were red glowing gems that provided the unsettling lighting of the room.
Xenon was laid on a particularly stiff and uncomfortable bed, he could tell it was a bed since there was an unnecessarily heavy blanket over him, all the way up to his chin.
Xenon furrowed his brows slightly and made an attempt to sit up, but a sharp pain quickly resonated across his back, originating from his spine.
Xenon groaned lowly, examining himself mentally and the extent of his injuries.
"I must have crashed...badly." Xenon murmured, realising his entire spine and legs felt like they had been snapped in many different, odd angles.
And there were many other parts that ached, which said that he had been injured in many different places also.
Xenon could also tell he was healing already, strangely swiftly too, he could practically feel his bones and tendons struggle to mend themselves within him and Xenon found this sensitivity to his own body state particularly unusual.
However, even if he had begun healing, he was still reasonably battered.
Xenon was about to attempt sitting up again, pushing through the pain, he gritted his teeth and forced himself upwards only to slump right back down to the bed as his muscles spasmed in excruciating pain.
"Scales..." Xenon muttered in pain, just before he made another attempt.
However, it was then a voice stopped him.
"What are you doing?!" The voice exclaimed from the doors to the room, right after the sound of the doors going open.
"You shouldn’t move yet, you will hurt yourself more if you force it." The voice chided in a much calmer tone.
Xenon glanced over to the door where a strange looking young woman walked over to him.
The woman was dressed in a plain black dress that was a little larger than her size.
She was a woman, that much was for certain from her silhouette. However, Xenon had no better ways to describe the full faced iron mask that covered her features but to tag it as strange looking.
Xenon did not know of any species or clans that had such a strange attire in the stronghold, and what was worse, Xenon could not pick up any scent from the woman.
’She has no scent...’ Xenon noted, an extremely strange thing which also meant it was impossible to tell what species she belonged to from just physical features.
Xenon frowned slightly as the strange woman came to a stop by his bed. Reaching out to adjust the covers over Xenon.
However, her hands froze in the mid air when she met Xenon’s cold eyes which wordlessly dared her to touch him if she was tired of living.
"Who are you?" Xenon asked in a dark tone, his eyes narrowed into a hateful glare.
Xenon was not in the mood to familiarise with random people, he had to get to Jian and then back to Neveah and he did not even know where he was at this moment or how to get to where he needed to go.
The thought only settled at this moment that he truly did not know where he was, all he could remember was the portal shards flying everywhere and that blinding bright light as the portal roared to life.
’Verothrax!’ Xenon thought to himself, recalling that he had not been on his own.
Xenon’s gaze narrowed in suspicion at Verothrax’s noticeable absence from his sight.
"Where is Verothrax?!" Xenon demanded harshly.
The strange looking woman shirked backwards, as if visibly hurt by Xenon’s tone.
"I am Ida. Fret not, I do not mean any harm... I found you and your friend heavily injured out in the open and I could not leave you out there when the night drew near." The strange looking woman introduced and explained herself in a trembling tone.
"Your name is of no consequence to me. What are you? And where did you have Verothrax taken?" Xenon demanded coldly.
"I did not have your friend taken anywhere and I do not have the ability to do so either..." Ida said shakily.
"There is no one else out here but me, it is impossible for me to have taken your friend anywhere else. He is still unconscious and over in the next room." Ida explained.
Xenon’s eyes narrowed in suspicion at that.
"You did not give an answer to the first question. What are you?! Fairy? Merfolk?! Nymph?! And why don’t you have a scent?!" Xenon hissed.
Once again, Ida retreated slightly, visibly trembling.
"I... I cannot answer that..." Ida stammered fearfully.
Xenon’s gaze darkened even more and he got up to a sitting position sharply, ignoring the pain in his spine.
"Do not do that! Your wounds are too severe, you should not be moving at all or you will get worse!" Ida exclaimed in horror.
"You do not have the luxury to be concerned about my wellbeing right now." Xenon relayed plainly.
"I... I cannot answer, not because I do not wish to but because I also do not know!" Ida exclaimed quickly just as Xenon was about to get up to his feet. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
She dove across the room, cowering in a corner far enough from Xenon, but she did not make a dash for the door.
"You...do not know what you are?" Xenon asked slowly, unsure he had heard correctly.
However, for whatever reason, Xenon could not detect any lies or dishonesty in the woman’s tone
"How is that even possible?" Xenon asked darkly.
"I... I am not sure..." She stuttered out, completely terrified as she warily watched Xenon.
"Then do you know what I am?" Xenon asked the woman suspiciously.
She slowly shook her head and Xenon raised a brow.
"Where are we exactly?" Xenon asked again.
"A... tower...a dark, terrible tower..." Ida replied in a low, haunted tone.
"A dark tower... Shadow Tower..." Xenon realized with a dark look.
