Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 620: Day of the Breaking ()
~Day of The Breaking
Xenon’s large dragon eyes scanned the dark lands as he soared over it. The wind whooshed all about him, sliding over his scales to aid his speed.
His large wings cut straight through the shadowy clouds, propelling his form across the distance in a flash,
Xenon’s speed was as fast as lightning, letting the tugging feeling he felt deep within guide him to where he needed to go, with an urgency of one who had to make a swift return,
And Xenon did need to do such, where he needed to go was one thing, but where he needed to be was behind him, way back at the walls of Dune City, most likely awaiting his return in concern.
Though Neveah would always have him do as his duty demanded, Xenon vowed to himself that this was the last time he would place his duty before her...
’Jian is King, he cannot help but place his duty first. But Neveah deserves at least one of us who places her first... before anything else in the world.’
Xenon had thought about it more often than not, of how he could love Neveah rightly...in a way she deserved to be loved, in a way that would teach her to trust in love which she had never been able to do.
Xenon’s thoughts were soon dispersed the farther into the dark lands he got.
There was a terrible stench in the air. Not one that was surprising given the taint of dark magic on the dark lands, one that seemed never to fade.
The dark lands, these forbidden swamps were never appealing to the dragons right from the days of the uprising, but this time was quite different...there was something more.
Even up in the skies, Xenon could notice strange changes, and he suspected it had a lot to do with a new magical influence over the dark lands, Verothrax’s magic was strange even to Xenon.
The death gale had not reacted even once like it usually would and there had already been multiple flights through the dark lands by Jian and his elite squad, Xenon could tell Verothrax’s magic was already at work.
And Xenon confirmed his thoughts when he caught a distant sight of Verothrax’s dragon form, his dark gray scales were hard to miss, especially now when the sun was still up and the skies were relatively clear.
But it was not Verothrax himself that caught Xenon’s eyes, but instead it was fixed on the noticeable rip in the sky above Verothrax.
The rip was not so large, and Verothrax hovered directly underneath it. Keeping it under control.
There was a surge of shadowy mass seeping through the rip, from the woods of the dark lands, out into the unknown through the rip in space Verothrax had created,
Those ear piercing shrieks echoed all the way across the distance to Xenon, which answered Xenon’s question to where the death gale was.
’Verothrax’s void ability...it is truly something.’ Xenon thought to himself.
It was not the first time Xenon had witnessed Verothrax wield his unique magic, but it had been at least four centuries since the overthrow, the last time Verothrax was awakened.
Xenon shook his head slightly, his gaze still scanning the dark lands for Jian and his elite squad.
"The mages probably masked their location from sight with magic...I will feel his presence when I am close enough to him." Xenon thought.
However, it was in this very moment that a particularly deafening shriek echoed out of nowhere.
Much different from the usual sounds from the death gale.
Xenon glanced back, in the skies where Verothrax hovered, the rift in space had begun to grow larger, the loud shrieking noise accompanying it.
It grew rapidly, expanding in size and intensity until it resembled a gaping maw of darkness, merged with the mass of shadows it was meant to banish.
More alarming was the fact that Verothrax had lost his altitude and was crashing down to the earth.
For whatever reason, he shifted forms to his human form mid fall. Or perhaps it was a shift that was not within his control, Xenon could not tell exactly from so far away.
The rift in the sky was growing increasingly larger, the death gale churning right in the midst of it.
Xenon dove for Verothrax, covering the distance in just enough time, he reached down with his claws and snatched Verothrax’s human form, preventing him from falling any further.
"What in the world do you think you are doing?!" Xenon thought to Verothrax.
"I lost control! It is going to crash! You fool! The death gale will destabilize your flight! Get away from it! Now!" Verothrax thought back to Xenon urgently.
It was then Xenon glanced up to see he was right beneath the rift and like the sky itself was falling, it had begun crashing down at a blinding speed.
The rift covered a great perimeter, there was hardly any hope of flying out of its range completely but Xenon wasted no time shooting forwards through the skies.
"You can’t make it!" Verothrax thought to Xenon.
"Our Liege left me a portal... land!" Verothrax thought urgently.
Xenon changed direction, shooting down for the ground with great speed, he bound his wings to his sides, letting nature aid his speed in a free fall.
And just when the rocky earth surface came into view, Verothrax tossed a portal gem down to the earth.
The gem shattered into many pieces and a portal erupted open right beneath them in an explosion of bright sparks of magic and light,
The portal sucked them in just a moment before they were to crash and in a flurry of wind and light, the portal snapped shut and disappeared.
In the very next moment, the void crashed into the earth with a great rumble, tearing right through the surface.
A large crack appeared and began spreading rapidly, and the earth caved open following its path, swiftly swallowing up the dark lands as it made its way to the barrier of the White Dunes.
