Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 618: Whatever You Need ()
"So much has happened in such a short time...you have done well, Veah. Kaideon could not have entrusted the Dunes to anyone better..."
"And I also, in some ways...made the right decision to have you remain in the stronghold." Jian said as Neveah finished briefing him on the current situation with the stronghold.
Neveah nodded slowly, she had been displeased at Jian’s decision before this time, but it was not so anymore.
"The Fae, they will not relent Jian. They are doing everything to prevent the final shipment of channeling gems from reaching Dune City."
"They have constantly attempted to push Menarx into launching first agitation... and I am of the opinion that we cannot hold back for much longer. We need those channeling gems to make certain the barrier is back to full strength." Neveah said to Jian.
It was a situation that had left Neveah constantly agitated. The Fae were truly posing a hinderance for no justifiable reason and Neveah still could not see what they stood to gain if the barrier did crash.
"I have hesitated in making any moves but Jian, I will get those channeling gems at any cost, even if it starts a war...Dune city is at risk every day and I cannot rest easy till that threat is neutralised." Neveah admitted honestly. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"I know it Veah...Dune City will be first affected if anything goes wrong with the canyon. But if the barrier is fully restored, there will be no need for such concerns." Jian said in understanding.
"The Fae...we have long predicted they would act out. Now, they must believe there is no better opportunity than this. I equally have waited... for the right time to teach them their place." Jian said with a dark look.
They both took a walk through the forest, Jian held onto Neveah’s hand, he had not let go since he took her hand in his.
Neveah was still not certain where exactly this location was as it was from Jian’s memories but Jian clearly knew his way around the forest.
And even if he didn’t know it well, they could not get lost in their own dreams. Or at least Neveah hoped not.
Neveah did not ask to know for sure, her mind was ridden with too many thoughts and worries even if she knew well enough that worrying about it would not solve anything.
"I have made plans before leaving for the dark lands, beloved. Can you trust me and hold back?" Jian asked Neveah.
"I will do as you say. But I will find my own way to get those channelling gems, if an open confrontation is not possible... there are many other means." Neveah said to Jian.
Jian passed a look to Neveah, his lips twitched slightly.
"Do what you will, my beloved. Just do not give the Fae a justification to start a war...there will be the right time for that." Jian said to Neveah.
Neveah nodded slowly in understanding. She knew Jian had moved his squadrons to the periphery of the White Dunes before leaving for the dark lands and many believed it was for the mission out in the dark lands...but was it truly?
The two squadrons Jian had moved were too quiet in this time, remaining in their camp despite all that had happened. They did not interfere with matters in Dune City and did not even return to Keep Skies, Lords Kirgan and Imagor who saw to state affairs did not summon them back either.
Neveah had long suspected they had received different orders before Jian had left, but she could not figure out what exactly.
"Whatever you intend to do, I will act accordingly and not ruin your plans, you have my word." Neveah assured Jian.
Jian hummed quietly, mulling over all Neveah had reported to him.
"The contagion...it is truly worrisome. There has not been a plague in the stronghold since the uprising...it cannot be of natural causes, there must be something more." Jian said to Neveah.
"I will look into it myself." Neveah assured.
"Ensure Everon and Coran are with you at all times, Veah. Do not put yourself in any danger." Jian made clear.
"I just... I cannot be there for you right now and Xenon also... I worry Veah." Jian said in a strained tone.
"I know that. I will not do anything to get myself hurt, Jian." Neveah murmured quietly.
They fell into silence for a short moment before Neveah spoke again.
"I still cannot believe it has only been two days there...whereas we have seen an entire month. And only a month, while we have seen a year...it is beyond imagining." Neveah said with a shake of her head.
"The stronghold holds many such mystifying things, Veah." Jian said to Neveah.
"I do not think it is possible to get used to such things." Neveah murmured honestly.
"I hope you do not have to. Most of such mystifying things in the stronghold are equally extremely dangerous. It would be best if you never have to get to know them." Jian replied.
"Jian... how long will it be before you return? How does it look...is it too difficult to achieve?" Neveah asked Jian warily.
Jian had not spoken much of the state of things in the dimensional planes, he had instead let Neveah do all the talking, sharing the current state of the stronghold with him.
And Neveah did have much to share, she had been keeping an eye on as many aspects of the stronghold as she could afford to and not Dune City alone.
From the Fae to the Mers, Neveah informed Jian of the brewing tensions and the traitorous intentions of the Fae.
But what Neveah had not mentioned was her current situation with Demevirld, as well as the word of the Radiant one that was quickly spreading.
Neveah did not know how exactly to break this news to Jian, especially since he already had so much he needed to deliberate on... perhaps some things were better left unsaid.
"It matters not how difficult it is, what is certain is that I will return as soon as is possible. But there are some matters I need you to take care of, discreetly...it pains me to have to burden you." Jian said to Neveah.
"Whatever you need... just say the word." Neveah said immediately.
"Convey my words to Imagor and Kirgan, there is a record long stored in the hidden archives..." Jian relayed the task to Neveah.
