Chapter 617: No Way Back 2 (Ch.618)

"My father always finds a way to look after me, even from so far away... sending you to me in this way, how can I ever thank him enough?" Neveah murmured, her heart warmed at the sight.

"He is your father, all he does is in his love for you. He needs no thanks and he would not want you to harbor such a thought, there are no debts amongst family." Jian replied with a shake of his head.

Neveah lifted a hand to the pendant on Jian’s neck, a small smile on her lips.

"This must have been my mother’s... this is the seal of the winter domain." Neveah muttered quietly, grazing a thumb over the pendant.

"My father...is well?" Neveah asked warily, still tracing the sides of the pendant.

Jian nodded, a reassuring smile on his lips.

"He seems to hate me more now, and may absolutely detest me by the time we make our return." Jian added.

Neveah laughed quietly, releasing a breath she had not even realized she was holding.

Neveah had truly feared that she would lose everything, everyone she had come to cherish so dearly.

The three most important men in her life, all gone off the surface of the earth. Each day had been difficult to wake up to such a reality...but now, there was at least hope.

"There is so much you must know, about the breaking..." Neveah trailed off.

"The breaking..." Jian murmured, the words bitter on his tongue.

"Is that what they are calling it?" Jian asked Neveah.

"It has been over a month, Jian...so much has happened...so much has changed on this side of the world..." Neveah paused again, shaking her head quickly.

"But it can all wait... just, let me look at you." Neveah muttered quietly, her hand stopped exploring the pendant and she placed her palm flat against Jian’s chest, feeling for his heartbeat,

That rhythmic, soothing sound that would make it all the more clear to her that he was fine...that they would all be fine.

All the while, Neveah stared up at Jian, not daring to divert her gaze for even a moment.

"What is that look in your eyes?" Jian asked Neveah in a low tone.

"I... I guess I just cannot believe you are before my eyes right now, Jian. Holding me... I know it is a dream but even for a dream, I just can’t believe it..." Neveah admitted in a quiet tone.

"Magic does have its... good days." Jian muttered reluctantly.

"If it brings you to me, I will not hate it." Neveah said with a shake of her head.

Jian smiled slightly, his gaze watched Neveah as she leaned up, her lips meeting his in a slow kiss of pent up longing.

Jian returned the kiss with no hesitation, smiling against Neveah’s lips, he brushed her hair away from her face as she pulled away.

"Forgive me for leaving your side, my beloved." Jian apologized quietly.

"There is nothing to forgive." Neveah reassured.

"Xenon... how is he? Will he come to me also? I swear I will go to sleep every hour if I need to..." Neveah quickly sought for her other lover.

Jian’s brows furrowed slightly in confusion at Neveah’s words.

"Xenon? He is meant to be at your side, is he not?" Jian asked Neveah in confusion.

Neveah shook her head slightly, an uncertain look in her eyes.

"No... Xenon went after you, before the breaking began. He went to find you and has not returned. " Neveah revealed. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Jian’s eyes widened in horror at the thought.

"Veah... Xenon never made it to me." Jian said slowly, the realization also dawned on him at that moment.

"That... that cannot be. He told me to wait right there, that he would go make certain you were safe and return to me...but he never did return. And I said to myself that he must have met you, and you both would be together... return together..." Neveah had begun to panic.

"Veah, Veah calm down...calm down and tell me precisely as it happened." Jian asked Neveah, pulling her closer to himself.

"Right before the breaking, Xenon flew out into the dark lands. Everything happened soon after... Jian, if Xenon did not get to you, then... could he have..." Neveah trailed off, the mere thought leaving her horrified.

All she had witnessed, the very earth being torn open and the skies crashing down...if someone was out there, caught up in that? Neveah did not think anyone could survive it.

"There is no need to think the worse Veah. If anything happens to any of my King’s guard, I will feel it first...no dimensional barrier can shield me from the pain of our ripping bond."

"Not to mention Xenon to whom I share a much closer bond. I hold his scale...his life force is entwined with mine, if he was hurt, I would know it... I would experience the same pain, and you would too, my scale and your mark on Xenon would make sure of it." Jian said to Neveah in a serious tone.

"The void tore right into the earth, Jian. Formed a canyon with unknown depths from our barrier all the way into the dark lands, and how far it goes is unknown...all we know is that it grows bigger each time the earth begins to crack again."

"Anyone beyond our barrier is not safe. If Xenon is not with you, and he is not with me, and he is not harmed...where could he be?" Neveah asked in deep concern.

Jian sucked in a deep breath, it was a question he also could not answer.

"Veah... the dark lands are vast. More so than you know of. The void Verothrax summoned, albeit powerful cannot destroy the entire dark lands... just as there is the stronghold on one end, there must be something left on the other end also."

"And Verothrax also is unaccounted for... and I know for certain he is powerful enough to protect himself through the chaos his magic caused. Xenon also..." Jian said thoughtfully.

"But... Xenon is out there somewhere, all by himself...with no way of getting back..." Neveah trailed off, the thought leaving a terrible ache in her heart.
