Chapter 604: Black Sea (Ch.605)

~The Dimension Planes: Birthplace of Forlorn Beasts~

A blinding streak of lightning flashed across the sky and reached all the way down like it would pierce the earth, it was quickly followed by a violent clap of thunder that tore through the skies. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

The sky at this time was a dim red shade, an ominous color, unlike the skies anywhere else in the stronghold and the sun was still high up in the sky even as a violent storm abruptly began.

There was no forewarning whatsoever, the storm followed the clap of thunder, rain pelting down on the earth below in a furious downpour,

The claps of thunder and blinding lightning had not ceased, and as the storm took hold, the red skies began to change.

Dark masses of shadows spread from far beyond the horizon, rapidly consuming the sky and nearly banishing the daylight with the eerie darkness it brought.

The shadows did not cover the whole sky, instead they lurked, leaving the central point for only a fraction of the red sky to shine through.

Down below this phenomena in the sky, the mighty Fort Blazed stood in all its glory, like an island in the middle of a vast sea, Fort Blazed stood as the only solid land right in the midst of the vast Black Sea.

It’s high and mighty walls appeared to be the only barrier keeping the black sea from flooding it’s bounds and overrunning the city.

The black sea was an unending sea that spread for as far as the eye could see. And as the storm kicked up, the deceptively calm black seas also showed signs of trouble.

The troubled waters churned violently. It was a tell tale sign that another horror was soon to grace the walls of the fortress, and another battle was soon to ensue.

Up above the city, three dragons circled the sky, flying low beneath the gathering shadows and the red sky, their wings expertly avoiding the shifting shadows.

They made a straight flight for the Blazed Castle for a good distance, and then one amongst the three swerved sharply, making a beeline for the city gates.

A loud roar echoed from his belly, reaching as far as the winds could carry the sound. It was not a threatening roar or one that was given prior to an attack, no...it was the first sound of warning.

Now, the streets of Fort Blazed were nothing like they used to be. The city that was once a center of trade and commerce in the Asvarian Stronghold was now scanty, desolate, nearly deserted.

There were a good number of people still going about their business, but their swift steps and anxious expressions told that even they would not be out for long.

It was not that there was no life in Blazed City. Far from it, the city held all the life it had when it had been reaped by the dark forces...but the laws of the stronghold and the dimension of beasts were different.

And it was to the weight of these laws many had succumbed, losing the courage to venture out of their homes unless in need of supplies.

There were many reasons for this terror of walking the streets, and one of such reasons was apparent as that dragon roar echoed.

Pandemonium broke out in that same instant. The few hundred brave ones out and about their daily business to procure supplies for their families were immediately thrown into panic and the urgent need to return to the safety of their homes.

Soon, the bells hung over the city gates were tolled. A loud tolling that told the people of Fort Blazed that it was about to begin again.

As it had many times before, the people of Fort Blazed knew what to do. Abandoning all activities, the streets of the city that were already scanty were completely cleared out in just a few moments.

The process was swift and admittedly filled with cries of panic and anxious murmurs, but it was swift regardless, swift enough to tell that this was not their first drill, the people of Fort Blazed had seen many of such days.

All living souls took shelter in their homes or any building close enough to find cover.

In the blink of an eye, there was not a single living soul in sight all through the entirety of Fort Blazed. All streets were completely abandoned, goods strewn here and there, a sight of desertion and devastation.

Still yet, the dragon above circled the city. A long flight it was, for the city was vast, but it was a flight that would be worth it...a flight to ensure that there was not a single soul left wandering the streets before the horrors took hold.

With doors locked and windows barred up, Fort Blazed was in just a few moments prepared to face the onslaught that came their way.

At the end of his second round, the mighty dragon growled low, satisfied, as much as one could be in such circumstances.

And then the dragon dared a look to the city walls, forsaken also as what need was there for the city guards when the foes that faced Fort Blazed were hinderable only by the dragons?

Two dragons in their human form were all the sentinel affordable for the city gates.

And as though they sensed the gaze of their kin in the sky, they turned, returning his gaze with a nod.

This one action represented many unsaid words. Words that did not need to be said for the first earth shaking roar sounded from beyond the city wall.

"What do we face this time?" The voice of his kin in the castle sounded in the dragon’s mind.

The dragon squinted slightly, his gaze zeroing in on the violently churning black sea.

"What horror would the black sea, the birth sea of forlorn beasts unleash upon them today?" The dragon himself wondered.

The answer could only be known when the beast arose from the depths of the seas.

And as it was in each battle that had gone by, the dragons could only hope today’s champion would bring them victory.

For victory meant a few days of peace and calm...but defeat? Well, the dragons were yet to know the answer to that. It was an answer they hoped never to find out.
