Chapter 582: Who To Trust In (Ch.583)

A month ago...it had already been a month since that day,

A month since she unknowingly sent Xenon to Jian, thus sealing both their fates.

At the least, if Xenon had been here, he would know what to do.

They were so closely bonded, if anyone would have had any success reaching Jian, confirming if he was unharmed, it could only have been Xenon.

But it was all just Neveah’s wishful thinking now.

Kaideon, Xenon, Jian... Neveah was left right back where she had started, having no one but herself.

Neveah’s hands were clenched into tight fists as the memory faded off. That familiar rage and frustration churned within her and Neveah gritted her teeth to suppress it, an action she had to repeat multiple times in a day to get by. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

Everon had warned repeatedly that Neveah was to keep her emotions in check at all times, but it was easier said than done.

A few years ago, Neveah would never have believed she would ever be the person she was now...a person who could cherish others so much that in their absence, she could barely get through the days anymore.

She would never believe that she would become someone so terrified...of being alone.

But when one had tasted the warmth of love, how could she even go back? Neveah did not see a way back...no, she hoped with all she had that the Creator would not be so cruel as to ask that of her.

"From the barrier at the Dunes...down to a point we are yet to properly ascertain, the great canyon has become an unwanted landmark, and it keeps moving deeper into the dark lands, claiming more ground as it goes." Coran continued with his report.

"The dark miasma that originates from the sealed death gale has formed a thick mist all around the canyon. By Verothrax’s magic, the death gale is bound to the unknown depths of the canyon."

" The death gale cannot escape the canyon, but the miasmic mist it gives off has been proven to emit noxious vapors and will crash any beast of flight straight into those depths. Thus rendering flight over the canyon impossible." Coran said, his tone devastated.

Neveah winced visibly, on that day, they had come to learn and understand, what the great canyon, and the dark miasmic mist seeping out of it meant for the beasts of flight.

A lesson that nearly claimed the lives of Coran and Garron.

"Neveah! Don’t!" Everon held Neveah back right before she could leap over the wall of the light hall.

At this point, there were many other dune dragons who had arrived at the wall of the light hall, flying low around the wall, awaiting orders on how they were to confront what was before them.

Those who had been on flight patrol before it happened,

Those who had been at the barracks, and even those from the castle.

They circled the barrier in flight, but did not venture across. The barrier was too weak, and what was beyond was something no one could fathom yet.

"We have to go out there! Xenon is out there!" Neveah screamed, fighting against Everon’s hold.

"Xenon’s flight speed is unmatched! He will not be caught in it! You must stay calm... this is your territory, whatever happens, you must ensure the safety of the people, the Dunes come first!" Everon hissed urgently.

Everon’s words were a slap back to reality and Neveah stopped her struggling,

"I need to know what has happened... I need to..." Neveah insisted in dismay.

"Garron and I will check it out and report back immediately. Do not worry, we will bring Xenon back if he is in sight. You will have to take care of things on this end, Veah." Coran said to Neveah before he and Garron shot off, going right over the wall.

Neveah walked over to the edge of the wall on shaky footsteps, again taking in the horrifying sight of the gaping canyon in the earth.

The canyon seemed to be growing bigger, Neveah was not sure if she was seeing wrongly or the earth had truly not stopped caving in.

Echoes of the horrendous shrieks of shadow beasts were continuous, emanating from the depths of the canyon,

Neveah’s gaze zeroed in on the barrier, studying it for a moment to ascertain what was best.

The barrier had withstood for this long, one could only bank on the fact that it would hold as the shock waves kept spreading across the earth,

Though not as severe as the first batch, a repeated onslaught was not to be underestimated.

"What is to be done, Veah? You see the Dunes through Kaideon’s eyes and no one knows it better than he." Everon asked Neveah.

’What would father do?’ Neveah thought,

Neveah’s eyes went closed and she blocked out the sounds of the chaos from beyond the barrier.

The shrieks from beyond the barrier, the sound of the Earth breaking in on itself, the sound of confusion and dismay from all around and even the sound of her fearfully beating heart, everything faded away.

’Trust in what you have learnt and observed, Veah. You are a light blood, you have dragon blood, the blood of flames in your veins, trust in yourself.’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her, reminding her of Kaideon’s frequent reassurance.

’It is not about what my father would do. This is my dune, I will protect it with my own ability.’ Neveah understood this was her father’s message.

"Father said a three pace perimeter is the most suited to the barrier, but not this time. Form a radar perimeter...Lord Turmen will take point." Neveah ordered firmly.

"The City Guard will keep the Dune City safe. All dune dragons on flight patrol over the Dune City are to return to their posts, aid the City Guard and keep the panic at bay." Neveah gave out the instructions in quick succession.

"Lord Eldowin." Neveah called for the new Lord of the Light Hall.

Neveah had noticed his arrival the moment the event happened.

"Lady Vairheac." Lord Eldowin bowed.

"Take a group of your most trusted Fae to reinforce the barrier directly, without the medium of the quatrefoil. It will be strenuous and consume a lot of magic but the barrier needs to feed on something to hold and we will give it that...we do not have the luxury to follow due procedure."

"I need those that are experienced enough to wield their magic for at least a day, uninterrupted... not even one can falter in the process."

"If you are to be Lord of the Dune Light Hall, this is the one and only event I can be convinced of your ability... convinced if the Fae is red

eemable, or..." Neveah left her sentence hanging, turning to face Lord Eldowin squarely.
