Chapter 581: The Broken World 2 (Ch.582)

"That is another reason it has to be Verothrax and not Demevirld. Even if Demevirld can hold the barrier, he cannot vanquish the death gale...if he musters such magic, it will rip you apart Veah... magic is, horrid even to it’s wielders." Xenon said, his tone dark at the mere thought.

Neveah understood the concerns of both dragon lords and she knew why they did not wish for her to be entangled with Demevirld anymore than she already was.

"Jian has also explained it to me, and I understand, why Demevirld is not the best course of action. I will not take Demevirld’s hand again...you are both against it." Neveah said to Xenon with a nod.

"Everything will go according to plan, right?" Neveah asked Xenon.

She still could not shake off that feeling of unease within her.

"Xenon, what is it?" Neveah asked in concern as Xenon stiffened visibly from where he stood beside her on the walls of the light hall.

"I... something is wrong... with Jian..." Xenon said slowly.

Neveah lifted a hand to her chest where Jian’s scale had rested, her brows furrowed slightly. Their bond was still too tender, still too undeveloped, she could not feel anything.

"But... it has been half a day since they left, what could..." Neveah began to say but she trailed off when Xenon’s gaze turned to her.

"You need to go to him..." Neveah guessed before Xenon could say a word.

Xenon winced visibly, Neveah could see the conflict in his eyes. His hesitation to leave her by herself but she could also see his concern for Jian’s well being, and Neveah knew Xenon would never be able to rest easy if he did not confirm Jian was unharmed.

"I will not leave your side. Cassian will keep him safe..." Xenon began to say but Neveah cut him off.

"Go, Xenon. I will be fine here...the Dune dragons will look after me, Everon is here too and the third squadron will arrive soon. You can return, after you make certain he is unharmed." Neveah assured Xenon.

"Veah..." Xenon began to protest but Neveah retrieved her hand that had been interlocked with Xenon’s.

"Go...no one can keep him safe as well as you." Neveah said with certainty.

"But...will you truly be okay? The last time you went into the dark lands..." Neveah trailed off, recalling how Xenon’s wild haze had manifested.

"I will be fine, I have this." Xenon said, lifting a hand to the point between his neck and his shoulder were Neveah had left a mark.

Neveah pursed her lips slightly but she nodded.

Xenon hesitated for a moment more before he pulled Neveah closer and lightly kissed her forehead.

"I will be back as soon as I make certain everything is in place. Wait for me." Xenon said to Neveah.

Neveah nodded and Xenon took off, leaping over the wall.

Neveah waited only a moment before the mighty black dragon rose up above the wall. Those large eyes turned to Neveah once again and Neveah nodded with a smile, gesturing for Xenon to go on.

Xenon shot off ahead, in the blink of an eye, he disappears through the barrier that was far up ahead and the barrier gave off a dim glow as it did since Neveah had unleashed Demevirld’s power on it.

"Veah, we should head back to the castle." Coran’s voice drew Neveah out of her thoughts.

Neveah glanced over her shoulder to see Coran, Garron and Lord Everon who had gone to the barrier to make certain nothing went wrong after Jian’s elite group went through.

"Just a moment..." Neveah said quietly.

Neveah stood there for a short while longer and just when she turned to head back to the Dune Castle, a piercing shriek echoed out of nowhere.

Neveah’s hands shot up to protect her sensitive ears.

"Scales! What is that?!" Coran exclaimed in horror, rushing over to the edge of the wall.

Neveah also glanced up, her eyes going wide.

In the skies beyond the barrier, a rift in space tore open before their very eyes. The loud shrieking noise accompanying it. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

It started as a small shimmering tear, barely noticeable against the darkening sky. But then it began to grow rapidly, expanding in size and intensity until it resembled a gaping maw of darkness.

"It is a void! Verothrax’s ability!" Everon exclaimed.

"It is unleashing into the real world! What is he doing?!" Garron asked in horror.

Neveah had said not a word, she could only stare in silence. Her eyes were wide, horrified and the irritation from the piercing shriek was long forgotten.

Neveah’s heart pounded in her chest as she watched in horror.

The magical void spilled forth into the real world. The piercing shriek progressed into a deafening roar that filled the air.

The ground beneath Neveah’s feet began to tremble violently, waves of vibration spreading from far beyond the dark lands across the barrier to the walls of the light hall.

The barrier glowed in its bid to absorb the shock waves and reduce the impact on the Dune lands.

Small golden sparks danced along its length, the barrier glowing brightly and then dimming just as quickly.

The hollow space in the sky crashed down straight to the ground, and everything for as far as they could see beyond the barrier was transformed into a chaotic scene of destruction.

"Xenon went out there! Xenon!" Neveah shrieked in horror, but there was no use.

Xenon was long gone, to those very same lands that now crumbled in on itself.

The magical void continued to expand as it fell, and then it crashed. A deafening sound of impact and a wave of dirt and debris that rose up to the skies.

The dirt and debris hid everything from view but when it settled, the reality was even more horrifying.

The void had ripped through the earth like a knife through butter, creating a deep canyon that seemed to stretch on for miles.

And in Neveah’s mind, Xenon’s words from before replayed.

’Verothrax’s ability is...words cannot describe it Veah. It is my hope that you never get to witness what he can do,’

Xenon had been right...
