Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 578: Shadow Dragon 2 ()
"That shadow dragon?" Neveah asked to be sure.
Neveah had heard the saying used a few times when referring to the dead, she had never imagined there was actually a shadow dragon in existence.
Despite the tense situation, Orin chuckled quietly from where he sat beside Neveah, finding Neveah’s shock amusing.
Neveah passed him a nasty glare and Orin was quick to drop his smile.
"Beloved, Verothrax is no folklore or myth. He is very much real to life and very much a dragon... and he will arrive here along with the elders." King Jian said to Neveah.
Neveah shook her head slightly, pondering over the words in silence.
King Jian gave some other instructions pertaining to the light hall and then he dismissed the dragons, clearing the hall out once again.
"That... I don’t... what exactly do you plan on doing, Jian?" Neveah asked when the doors to the meeting hall went closed.
"If you do not plan for the squadron to cross the barrier, then this Verothrax is all you need out there? Could he really be that powerful? We both saw the death gale...it is unforgiving, there is an unending army of shadow beings out there..." Neveah said in concern.
"I never planned for the squadron to cross the barrier. I will only take six dragons, Verothrax included... the rest will be mages to bring down the witch barrier and secure Fort Blazed...that is all I need." King Jian said.
"With sorcery, numbers are of no significance, what matters is the tactic. I have dealt with it long enough to know... what works." King Jian continued.
"And you have a plan...you have had a plan for Fort Blazed, all along. Perhaps you let it lie this past year for the same reason..." Neveah murmured to herself, though her words were audible enough.
"Did my father know of this? Of this Verothrax and whatever you plan to do with him out there?" Neveah asked King Jian.
"More than most." King Jian replied honestly.
"So you knew... that my father not coming back was a possibility? Or was it part of the plan?" Neveah asked again.
King Jian shook his head slightly at Neveah’s words.
"Not a plan...but there is no possibility that was not considered." King Jian admitted.
"Yeah... okay..." Neveah murmured, nodding slowly.
"So, if I understand you correctly, you will go... and I will not go with you." Neveah guessed King Jian’s intentions.
"The Dunes are under your command now, naturally, you have to stay back." King Jian replied.
"Do not give me that excuse, Jian. I thought... you couldn’t bear to be apart from me, is that not exactly what this will be? You being on the other end of the barrier? And when the witch barrier falls, you will be on a different dimension plane... and I am to stay here...?" Neveah asked.
"I will do what I have to Veah, Xenon will be with you." King Jian said,
Neveah did not say anything, she just stared at King Jian in silence and then she nodded.
"Fine. If this will be best for my father and for Fort Blazed, then that is what matters." Neveah said.
Neveah got up to her feet and also headed out of the hall, and King Jian stared after her, a pained look in his eyes.
"When do you leave?" Xenon asked King Jian after a moment.
"As soon as Verothrax is here." King Jian relayed.
"At dawn then." Xenon surmised.
"I will not have you accompany me this time, brother." King Jian murmured apologetically.
"If not me, then Cassian and Menarx both must go with you. Kirgan and Imagor cannot leave Keep skies in the absence of the rest of us." Xenon decided.
"Cassian alone will do. Narx... has his own orders." King Jian said with shake of his head.
Xenon frowned slightly but nodded his head in agreement.
"I will make the necessary arrangements." Xenon said.
Neveah had not gone very far from the hall, she stood by the side and waited for Xenon to emerge.
"Tell me about Verothrax... what is he? What can he do?...Is his presence more a danger than a benefit?...Tell me everything I am meant to know that I do not." Neveah said to Xenon.
"Walk with me." Xenon said to Neveah, nodding in agreement to her request.
Xenon offered Neveah a hand and she took it, walking by his side down the hallway.
"There is a lot you do not yet know about my kind, Veah... rather, there are some of my kind that are not like any other you have known..." Xenon began.
"Though dragons are known to be beasts of flame, we are the oldest beings of the most ancient magic... just like Fae’s, witches or any other race, we are born from magic."
"And as such, though we do not wield magic directly, there were those of us that command extremely rare abilities beyond flame breath... abilities beyond anything you can imagine... dangerous abilities Veah." Xenon said seriously.
"These are not abilities they would tend to reveal easily and so many would never be able to tell that there was much more to a dragon lord than his fire."
"The sorcerers discovered this... and they made use of it. These unique ones of our kind became test subjects... for centuries, to understand the workings of their abilities and take it for themselves, the dark sorcerers did everything...all kinds of things..."
"And not many of them survived to see the new dawn..." Xenon trailed off.
Neveah winced visibly, she had wondered why she never heard of this but if there was one topic the dragon lords all found difficult to speak of, it was that dark age.
"Of the few who still live to this day, one of such is Verothrax. Verothrax’s ability is...words cannot describe it Veah. It is my hope that you never get to witness what he can do, however trust that the death gale is nothing to Verothrax." Xenon said seriously
