Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 556: A Shed ()
Neveah searched through the office, looking for any thing that contained information related to the secret dealings the waterfall inn was involved in.
A ledger, a note, a letter, anything that could provide a better grasp on the situation with Lord River.
The innkeeper was still unconscious and no one else had come, but Neveah knew it would not be long before they would come searching for him.
There was nothing of interest on the desk and Neveah had begun searching through the shelves, just when she was going to conclude that there would be nothing here, Neveah caught a glimpse of a small book tucked away behind other books in the shelf.
Neveah pulled it out and opened it, glancing through it. There were dates scrawled down in the pages, as well as names.
Neveah was not certain what it meant at this time but for it to be hidden away, she guessed it would contain information they did not want to share.
Folding the book up, Neveah hid it away, she passed a glance to the innkeeper and then she left, gently closing the door behind her so it did not make a sound.
There was no one down the hallway and Neveah quickly retraced her steps, intending to head back to Tara.
Just as Neveah emerged to the dimly lit hallway where the workers passed by, a voice beckoned on her.
"Oi! Where have you been?! Come over here quickly!" The voice instructed.
Neveah turned to find a burly woman with an apron on which there were smears of flour, the scent of food spices was prominent all over her even from this distance she stood and Neveah cringed slightly as her nostrils were flooded with the scent the closer she got to the woman.
"This is not the time to be lounging about, I will be sure to let the bosses know of this. Now hurry, join the other girls and take the food tray out to the field men." The burly woman instructed Neveah.
Taking a hold of Neveah’s shoulder, a grip that was rather painful, she shoved Neveah forwards harshly to move ahead of her.
Neveah balanced herself with ease, had it been anyone else, they might have tumbled straight to the ground.
And though Neveah’s shoulder ached where the cook’s hand had been, it was easily ignored.
’I will rip her to shreds!’ Neveah’s wolf growled in her head, offended by the cook’s harsh treatment.
’Hush now. We need only find a chance to leave, Tara is all by herself.’ Neveah reminded her wolf
Neveah followed the scent trail of food that was the strongest and found the kitchen while walking ahead of the woman so it did not appear as though she did not know where she was going.
Once they arrived the entrance of the kitchen, the burly woman brushed past Neveah and stormed in.
The kitchen of the inn was reasonably large, other than the burly cook, there were three others in aprons and some young maids who carried trays heaped with food out through another door on the other side.
In the next moment, a large tray was shoved into Neveah’s hand, heaped with steaming food.
Neveah kept her head low as she followed behind the other young maids, through the side door and down an outer corridor that led out to the courtyard at the back of the inn.
The maids swiftly walked across the courtyard and Neveah wondered exactly where they were headed to, she could barely see anyone for a distance, there was only an old abandoned shed up ahead.
Neveah still followed, the maids crossed the courtyard and on arriving the abandoned shed, they ventured in quickly.
Neveah felt the quiet hum of magic the moment she arrived at the entrance of the shed, but she did not have the time to contemplate it as there were others behind her and she could not hold up the line without raising suspicions.
Neveah stepped through the entrance of the shed and she was not at all surprised to find, what they had walked into was not a shed at all.
On the outside, it appeared to be an abandoned old shed and was nothing worth attention, but the inside was completely different.
The inside was much larger than the outside view of the shed, almost five times the size of the shed itself, and what was within was no abandoned tools but there were almost a dozen buff men offloading large wooden boxes and adding it to the heap already there.
It was not a shed, but a storehouse. For what exactly? Neveah could not tell just yet.
"Take a break! Our meal is here!" One of the men working in the storehouse called out to the others.
The other men walked over, gathering around a small fire that had been lit in the middle of the storehouse.
Neveah followed behind the other maids who walked over to the workers, handing them the trays one after the other.
Neveah followed the line till she got to the man she was to serve and she stretched the tray out to him, her attention more focused on determining what was inside those boxes.
"It looks like it will taste good..." The buff man Neveah was serving commended.
"But I bet you taste better." He added,
The other men laughed boisterously at his words.
Neveah’s brows twitched slightly, her nose scrunched up as a horrible stench wafted out along with his words.
Neveah swallowed down the urge to react on reflex as the buff man grabbed her hands instead of the tray.
"Why have I never seen you before? Lift your head." He instructed Neveah.
The buff man reached a hand to Neveah’s chin to pry her head up but Neveah turned her head away.
"A feisty one..." The buff man commented with a low chuckle.
Neveah winced visibly, biting down on her lip to restrain her wolf. She passed a glance to the other maids but they diverted their gazes swiftly, avoiding her.
That much alone was enough to make Neveah understand that this was a regular occurrence and the maids had seen it many times before this, hence they knew to turn a blind eye.
