Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 551: To Steal ()
Neveah sighed quietly as she sunk lower into her bath pool. The warmth of the water did nothing to calm her anxiety or ease her thoughts and Neveah was not certain anything would.
This deeply rooted feeling of unease had blossomed once again and Neveah just could not shake it off, neither could she identify the reason for it.
"I gave in, I followed my heart. I intend to try my hardest to make things work, leave no regrets. I am at a good place in life; so why do I feel so restless?" Neveah murmured to herself in a quiet tone.
Neveah wanted to blame it on the troubling happenings in the Dunes and perhaps to some extent it was, but Neveah knew that was surely not all of it... there was something more, something she could not quite place her finger on.
There was a knock on the door, and then the door to Neveah’s washroom came open.
Neveah did not need to glance up to know who it was.
"Privacy, Tara." Neveah murmured as Tara strode in like she owned the place.
"Oh please. We will get enough of that when we pass away." Tara replied simply, taking a sit across from Neveah’s bath pool.
Neveah’s eyes fluttered open, passing an exasperated look to the troublesome female.
"What is it this time?" Neveah asked with a small sigh.
"Am I not allowed to check in on you now that you have shared the Dragon King’s bed?" Tara asked with a scoff.
"I have not shared anything, Tara. Do not let your imaginations run wild." Neveah replied with a roll of her eyes.
"But you shall in no distant time?" Tara baited.
Neveah fixed Tara with a blank look and Tara scoffed once again.
"I am not allowed to run my mouth about it, the least I can do is run my imagination." Tara defended her position.
Neveah sighed quietly, though the Dune enforcers had been made aware, there had been no official announcements that revealed she was King Jian’s bonded.
And because there had been no announcements, those who knew of it did not dare share the news.
"Speculations still run wild through the Dunes and beyond, but they are still just rumours till an official confirmation was presented... once a confirmation is made, your path will only lead to Dragon Keep." Tara said seriously.
Neveah knew it was only because these were troubled times and the circumstances had not been favourable, the moment the troubles were quelled, King Jian would declare their bond to the entire stronghold.
"I will be ready." Neveah replied with a nod.
Tara permitted a small smile before she changed the topic of conversation.
"Estelle sent word, His Grace has assigned Lord Dante to command the seventh squadron. Lord Orin says they will be the first unit to arrive." Tara relayed to Neveah.
"This is the very edge of the stronghold, the first and fourth squadrons must protect Keep Skies. They cannot fly out this far, especially in the absence of the Dragon King." Neveah murmured in understanding.
"It is likely the second, third and seventh squadrons will be entrust with the battle order this time...if it comes to that." Neveah said.
"His Grace and Lord Xenon flew out with the Dune enforcers once again. A military base is to be erected, His Grace is overseeing the process himself."
"It appears there truly will be a battle in the Dunes... if it was an army coming our way, I would not be worried. But a battle out in the dark lands..." Tara murmured, her tone concerned.
"Do not burden yourself with thoughts of what is yet to happen, the dragons have faced dark magic many times and prevailed. They will do same once again." Neveah said with certainty.
"I intended to come find you in any case." Neveah added.
Tara raised a brow at that, staring expectantly at Neveah.
"Before His Grace and Lord Xenon return, there is something I need to steal... tonight." Neveah revealed.
Tara tilted her head to the side at Neveah’s words.
"Steal?" Tara asked uncertainly.
"Yes Tara, steal." Neveah confirmed.
"Tonight... I have time." Tara agreed, nodding.
_______________
The Waterfall Inn was a massive building that took up a good measure of one of the more secluded streets in the Dune City.
It was a part of the city Neveah had not been to often except for a few duties as it fell under the jurisdiction of another Dune enforcer.
This was simply because the majority of the population in these parts were merchants that traded on magical commodities, and they mostly were of other races.
There were only a few humans that operated in these parts and though Dune City was largely a human settlement, there were still other races who had made a home of the city.
However, as was expected, these races still tended to separate themselves from humans as much as was possible, hence why there were still parts of the city that were known to be especially occupied by other races with much lesser human presence.
For these parts, more caution was required and it was the kind of place that only a full dragon could maintain order.
On this night, the inn was particularly secluded, as was the street leading up to it.
It was only natural, an inn was a place of lodging primarily and a place of business on the side.
With the city being on lockdown, those merchants who had been trapped within Dune City had to put a hold to their business, and remain indoors.
No new merchants had come seeking residence too, the city gates were firmly shut to all outsiders and would be for a few days more.
The inn would experience a slow business for a while.
With the streets being as they were, it was not hard to miss the wooden carriage drawn by a lone horse that rode up to the doors of the inn.
