Chapter 550: Waterfall Inn (Ch.551)

"There is no concrete evidence to make that conclusion...but I fear they will not be uninvolved." Neveah admitted.

"They will not go unpunished this time." Xenon said darkly.

"Without direct evidence linking the Fae to this, it will be hard to entrap them. Is that not how they have constantly escaped answering for their crimes? Giving up an arm of a leg to protect the rest?" Neveah asked.

In the past year, the Fae kind had been found to be entwined in many suspicious situations, but there had not been convincing enough evidence.

And so they had cast out many of their own council members of clan lords to bear the accusation, keeping the rest of the Fae kind unrelated.

With a scapegoat presented, the dragons could not push further and convict the main leaders of the clan for the crime.

"All of father’s concerns are related to the project from a year ago, rebuilding the Quatrefoil. He also recorded strange reflections of light from the Quartrefoil... something was definitely not done right." Neveah murmured.

Neveah sorted through the reports in search of the one that spoke of the import of the rare channelling gems and the process through which it was procured.

This report was especially detailed as channeling gems were extremely rare.

Neveah read through it again and then placed it down.

Neveah pondered over the report, her eyes narrowed slightly as she re-read a particular part that was suspiciously familiar to her.

"Waterfall Inn..." Neveah murmured quietly, getting up to her feet in a flash.

Listed amongst the trade agencies involved in procuring the quantity of channeling gems required was the waterfall inn.

"The waterfall inn was involved in the import of channelling gems?...Is this not the same inn that merchant mentioned?" Neveah recalled.

Neveah’s eyes widened slightly, she was certain the waterfall inn was the same inn she had ordered the City Guard to look into, precisely because it was linked in some way to the merchant who brought in adamantium weapons.

"I must head to City Guard." Neveah announced.

Without waiting for a response, she headed out of her quarters.

A short time later, Neveah had already arrived at the City Guard.

Neveah paced in her office, awaiting the return of the City Guard Commander. She had summoned him the moment she arrived at City Guard and Neveah hoped he would have a report for her already, even if it had only been a little more than a day.

A knock on the door alerted Neveah to the arrival of the Commander and Neveah glanced up as the door came open.

"Lieutenant." The Commander greeted.

"Commander, there you are. Please, sit." Neveah gestured for him to take a sit as she also did the same.

"I received your urgent summons." The Commander said first, his tone concerned.

"Commander, the task I entrusted to you, how is it coming along?" Neveah asked.

"As you directed, a man from our end has infiltrated the black market. It will take a few days at least before we can expect any Intel." The Commander reported.

’A few days...’ Neveah thought,

Neveah knew she could not get all the answers at this time, but at least now there was a trail, and it was leading in the same direction as the adamantium weapons had.

Worrisome as it was, Neveah would do the best she could till her father returned. The moment Kaideon was back, everything would become more clear.

"And the inn?" Neveah asked.

"I was going to file a report the moment you were on duty. I looked into the inn and it is quite unusual, the inn caters to traders from out of the city alone, it never admits traders from the city itself."

"Also, it is not an independent business but a part of a trading agency here in Dune City."

"The agency is registered and legal, so I cannot find any faults with it. However, word has it that they have their hands reaching deep into the black market... what is even more strange, it is not a human owned business." The Commander revealed.

"The Fae." Neveah guessed.

The Commander nodded slowly, slightly surprised that Neveah had guessed it right.

"On the surface, it seems to be a human owned business but there is more to it. My men have spotted quite a number of Fae’s disguised as humans going in and out of the inn." The Commander reported.

"The population of Fae frequenting the inn is more so than all the other species put together and the fact that they attempt to disguise as humans makes it all the more suspicious." The Commander added.

Neveah pondered over the commander’s words, her brows furrowed in thought.

"You say it is a trading agency and the inn is only a part. What is this trading agency called then?" Neveah asked.

"The Broken Blade, that is the name of the agency under which the Waterfall Inn serves." The Commander reported.

"The Broken Blade..." Neveah muttered quietly, she had never heard of such an agency in the Dune City but Neveah had only been here for a year and she knew there was bound to be much she still did not know.

"Have our source in the black market look into the Broken Blade also, and if they have any relations to channelling gems." Neveah instructed.

"I will send the word immediately." The commander confirmed.

The Commander got up to his feet to take his leave but Neveah stopped him.

"Every inn must keep a proper record of visitation and goods stored, especially if it is a cover for something bigger." Neveah murmured.

"That is correct. "The commander said with a nod.

"Book a reservation at the waterfall inn and find a suitable cover to have another one of your men go in. His task is simple, find out where the records are stored, particularly those from a year ago." Neveah instructed.

"I understand." The commander said.

"Better still, I will go myself." Neveah decided.

"But lieutenant.." The commander began to protest but Neveah interrupted him.

"No buts, commander. Make the necessary arrangements." Neveah said firmly.
