Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 549: More Comfortable ()
Neveah sat by her bed, watching King Jian who was now sound asleep, his breaths slow and evened out,
He had drifted off to sleep not long after laying down on Neveah’s bed and Neveah could tell he had not thought he would find sleep, given as he had only taken off his outer robe, but still had his boots on.
His silver hair was splayed out on the pillow and he looked so peaceful, Neveah could not take her eyes away.
She had never seen him like this before, there were few expressions that King Jian was capable of, it was only in the past few days Neveah had come to know he was capable of much more than that.
But even so, there was always that cold, solitary aura around him, one that never quite dissipated, not even when he was amongst his brothers,
The dragon king was always on his guard, always wary, always conscious of everything and everyone around him, Neveah only recognized it for what it was now.
For Neveah, this was the first time she failed to sense that aura, this was the first time she was convinced that the Dragon King had fully lowered his guard and was truly at peace.
Neveah knew that would not last, the very moment he awakened, the weight of his responsibilities would return and with it came that aura of a lone sovereign.
Neveah’s gaze moved down to King Jian’s hand that still held onto hers tightly even while sound asleep, he had fallen asleep holding her hand and he still had not let go.
"I have always believed Xenon to be a difficult man to care for...but you are much more complicated. I will have my hands full with you both, won’t I?" Neveah murmured, slowly brushing away the stray strands of hair from King Jian’s forehead.
Neveah breathed a quiet sigh and picked up the report she had been reading with her free hand, returning her attention to it.
______________
The warm rays of sunlight hitting his face roused King Jian and his eyes slowly fluttered open.
He squinted slightly, the bright lighting from the partly opened curtains were much too harsh on his eyes.
It took only a moment for his eyes to adjust to the lighting and then he turned slightly, his gaze settling on Neveah who still sat where she had been, her gaze focused on a file in her hand.
A familiar warmth spread within him and King Jian laid still, having no intentions of drawing attention to the fact that he was now awake.
"You are awake." Neveah murmured, without glancing his way, her senses as keen as always.
"I prefer my quarters bright in the morning hours. I would shut out the rays of light, but I am being held captive." Neveah added, slightly tugging on her hand.
King Jian glanced down to find it was he who still held onto her hand as he had been before he fell asleep, yet still, he did not let go.
"Hmmm... what time is it?" King Jian asked quietly, he could tell already but he just needed the confirmation.
"A little past dawn." Neveah replied with a casual shrug.
The first thing King Jian had noted was that it was past dawn, which meant he had slept for over five hours.
This would be the second time since arriving the Dunes that he had slept for this long, before that, it had already been more than a year since he found sound sleep for even an hour straight.
"You have been up all night." King Jian noted. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
"Lucky for me, I can sleep whenever I wish to." Neveah replied, her tone reassuring.
"That is nothing to brag about." King Jian pointed out in a quiet grumble.
Neveah shrugged at King Jian’s words but said nothing.
"Xenon?" King Jian asked.
"He is here." Neveah confirmed.
"I can tell." King Jian said, smirking slightly when Neveah’s hand shot up to cover her lips.
Neveah gestured with her head to her washroom just as Xenon stepped out, whilst running a hand through his damp hair.
His black robes were untied and hung loosely over his frame, and he shook his head slightly to get the water out of his hair.
Without delay, Neveah diverted her gaze back to the report in her hand, ignoring the exasperated sigh that echoed through her mind.
"I will be using your quarters often." Xenon announced directly,
Neveah’s gaze snapped up at that, she quickly shook her head.
"I do not agree with that, this is my place, why would you?!" Neveah asked in alarm.
Xenon gestured to King Jian who still occupied Neveah’s bed like it was his birthright.
"Because it looks more comfortable here." Xenon said blankly.
Neveah breathed a heavy sigh, snatching her hand away from King Jian who was clearly amused.
"Absolutely not!" Neveah made clear.
"Now, make yourselves useful for the short time you are here at least, tell me about channeling gems." Neveah asked, placing the report she held down.
"And fix your clothing..." Neveah added, her words directed at Xenon.
King Jian raised a brow at Neveah’s question.
"Channeling gems...they are extremely rare and they can only be harvested from the very depths of the North Sea, hence they are difficult to procure." King Jian said.
"Why is that?" Neveah asked curiously.
"While the Mer Folk have been subjugated under Dragon Dynasty, their terrain is the most unsuitable for our kind."
"Hence, the reach of our influence can be said to be more limited at the seas than it is on land. It is different for the Fae kind who share a border with the Mers as well as centuries long trade pact."
"The trade of channeling gems is a part of the treaty between the Mers and Fae kind. To keep the peace, dragons do not interfere with this as we do not have much use for channeling gems." King Jian explained.
"In turn, the Fae is duty bound to supply the academy of magic, the academy of smiths and most importantly, the Light Halls in the rare cases that they require the item... for a fitting price, of course." Xenon added.
Neveah frowned thoughtfully, it was a very reasonable and fair arrangement by the dragons when they could have monopolized every trade to further subjugate all the species.
"Veah... the Fae kind is behind Lord River, are they not?" Xenon asked.
