Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 508: Dismay ()
Cassian ran a hand through his hair in frustration as he paced for a moment and then paused, fixing another stare on a blank faced King Jian.
"Jian, you know as well as I do what this means. You recognized that magic as well as I did, you know where it comes from, you know what it is..."
"And you know that everyone saw it, they will have their questions... assumptions, and knowing the dune dragons, they will not be so far from the answer." Cassian reminded.
"We have to understand it first, how a treasure we believed to be in the hands of the dark sorcerer manifested right before our eyes in a manner it never has before..."
"We held onto the believe that the dark sorcerers would not be able to activate it, or at least they will be delayed long enough for us to recover it...but all along, it was right here. And she activated it right before our eyes..." Cassian trailed off in his rant.
"No, that is not even the most pressing issue. What was that out there? Is she really... your bonded?" Cassian asked again.
"Asking the same question in a hundred different ways will not change the answer, Cassian. I do not have the patience to entertain your antics at the moment." Jian stated clearly.
"Do you have the patience to answer to the dune dragons then? A council has been convened and Kaideon is not pleased." Cassian relayed to Jian.
"When is he ever?" Jian replied with a raised brow.
"You charge straight for the gale with his daughter, put her in harms way and you both did something that should not have been possible. "
"Right after, she loses consciousness and with no explanation, you fly off for Dune Castle and order for no one to approach her quarters. What did you expect? A congratulatory banquet?" Cassian deadpanned.
Jian frowned slightly, Cassian had related all that had happened accurately and he could understand how he had triggered Kaideon’s wrath.
However, Jian did not see why he had to give thought to what anyone would think when all that had mattered to him was getting his bonded to a safe place.
"Veah needs to rest and regain her strength. Not be hounded by questions she is unable to answer, much like you are doing to me now." Jian said with no remorse.
"I will go to them after she awakens and not a moment before. Kaideon may bring the castle down in his rage if that is what pleases him." Jian made his stance clear.
Jian turned to head back into Neveah’s room but paused when the door came open first, to reveal Neveah standing in the doorway.
She had not been there for so long, but she had been conscious for long enough to have heard all that was said between Cassian and Jian.
And there were many things they had mentioned that Neveah was not certain she wanted to understand just yet.
Jian froze for a moment, just staring at Neveah, and in the same manner, Neveah also stared up at him in silence.
There was not much either could do, they were in a very complicated situation and they both knew it.
Yet the mate bond was a strange thing, because the complexity of their situation considered, neither could give much thought to it at this moment.
’Were her eyes always violet? I had thought they were blue...in certain shades, they looked blue...or was I just too negligent?’ Jian thought to himself.
’Did no one think to feed her more? Why was her skin so pale? Had it always been so? Or was it because she had exhausted her strength this time’ Another thought blossomed in Jian’s mind.
"Then?" Cassian interrupted the silent staring contest in an annoyed tone, but was blatantly ignored by Jian.
"I... I want to see my father..." Neveah finally broke the silence, diverting her gaze from Jian’s to Cassian for a moment and then back to Jian.
Though she did not meet his eyes this time, there was something about his gaze that Neveah was not ready to explore.
"Get Kaideon." Jian ordered Cassian without so much as a glance.
"Now, I can get him?" Cassian asked with a scoff.
"She wants to see him." Jian replied as though that was a completely acceptable explanation to Cassian.
Cassian opened his mouth to protest, but then shut it back up, running a hand through his hair again.
"It’s fine, I will go see him myself." Neveah interrupted before Cassian could say anything.
"Are you sure you are alright?" Jian asked Neveah uncertainly.
"Yes." Neveah replied and then strode past Jian,
Jian reached for her on instinct, gently taking hold of her wrist.
Jian was tempted to get Neveah to admit with her own words what he clearly knew from her gaze, she was trying to avoid.
But Jian decided against it, he had been overbearing enough... overbearing was all he had been if he was being honest with himself.
"Veah...I know none of this is easy for you." Jian said to her in a low tone.
Neveah was quiet for a moment before she nodded.
"It is not." Neveah agreed.
"You do not have to face them yet, I will send Kaideon to you... and handle the council. You just, take your time... clear your head, and then I will come to you." Jian said,
His words were not forceful or demanding, they were instead patient and understanding, two traits Neveah had never known the dragon king to possess.
But then again, did she truly ever know him? He had never been one she could get to know, he was never one she could dare attempt to understand.
Neveah did not say anything in response and settled to nod instead, if she tried to speak, she was not sure which among the hundreds of thoughts in her mind would make it’s way out first.
Jian’s gaze lingered on Neveah for a moment longer before he took his leave, with Cassian trailing behind him.
"Are you just going to leave like this? What do you plan to do now? One way or the other, the bond you share was made clear to everyone out there... unless they were blind and deaf." Cassian asked, passing a glance over at Neveah.
"Good." Jian replied and that was all the response he gave.
Neveah waited till she was certain they had gone far enough before she crouched down by her door, her head in her hands.
The truth was that, she did not have to go over to meet Kaideon.
She was not even in the right state of mind to face the dune enforcers and all the questions they would surely have.
The truth was that Neveah had just felt a strange awareness from a newly formed bond... one that told her he was conscious now... Xenon was awake.
It made reality all the more daunting to Neveah, the reality that she had just forced a bond on a man and then found herself another...
Xenon was Xenon and Jian was Jian, all Neveah could think of was the chaos to ensue.
"What have I done?" Neveah murmured in dismay.
