Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 507: Light and Fire ()
Neveah awakened to quiet voices, they sounded far off in the distance and she could barely make out the words that were being said.
At first, the voices were just murmurs, obscured by the haze of unconsciousness but as she gained more awareness to her environment, the words became more audible but Neveah still could not quite discern the voices behind them.
"That...is it what I think it was?" Came a question whispered in a hushed voice.
"You already know the answer to that." Was the blank response given.
"But... how is that even possible? How is this even possible? Any of it?" The first voice asked again, completely astonished.
This time, there was no response given and perhaps no response had been expected in the first place.
It took Neveah a moment to discern that these voices belonged to Cassian and King Jian.
However, Neveah’s mind was still hazy and she could not comprehend what topic they discussed in hushed whispers or why they were even in the same vicinity as she was in the first place.
There was a sharp pain pulsing through her skull and a dull ache lingered somewhere along her spine, reminding Neveah that she had taken a hit or a couple of that.
Neveah forced her eyes open with much difficulty, squinting as the light pierced her sensitive eyes and Neveah had to close them right back.
Neveah gave it a moment before she let her eyes flutter open again, this time, her eyes adjusted slowly to the lighting and Neveah just stared up at the ceiling for a short time.
There was no need to wonder where she was, it was only her quarters in the Dune Castle that had a mural drawn into the ceiling, a depiction of a flourishing forest with lush greenery despite the cold winter all around.
It soothed Neveah’s wolf at every waking moment and Kaideon had taken great care to prepare it according to his memory of the woods in the Winter Domain.
Neveah guessed he had done it to help Neveah feel closer to her mother in some way, and also help her make the decision on visiting the Winter Domain which Neveah had not yet settled her mind on.
The thought of that unresolved conflict about her mother enhanced the ache in Neveah’s head.
Neveah breathed a heavy sigh and lifted a hand to rub her temple, glancing around her room for a moment as she tried to piece together her memories that lead up to this moment.
The last thing Neveah remembered clearly was jumping off the city wall and heading off in search of the merchant, and then...
"Xenon..." Neveah recalled with a visible wince.
But the memories did not end there.
Neveah’s eyes grew wide in alarm as her mind was flooded with all the events that had happened in the span of the last day.
"King Jian...the portal.... shadow beast...death gale...a fall ..." Neveah murmured quietly to herself, trailing off as she did not dare say what came next aloud.
Mate?! King Jian was her mate?!
The thought sent Neveah into complete silence, silence that only lasted for a moment before the final memory came to mind and that blast of glowing gold light that had sealed the barrier, right before Neveah had lost consciousness.
______________
~A Few Hours Earlier
The sound of the explosion of energy was earth shaking and sent waves of power spreading for a far distance, all of which erupted out of the tiny being that stood ever so calmly on his back,
Neveah...but in this moment, she was a beacon of light that commanded the very forces of nature... wielding a power that should not have been possible.
’This...it shouldn’t be possible...’ Jian thought in astonishment as he watched the golden light seal off every crack in the barrier,
The light did not consume the entire gale, but it had done something else entirely.
Glowing gold sparks spread along the length of the barrier, till the entirety of it for as long as the eye could see now glowed a bright gold, completely barricading off the gale.
But it did not end there, it had only just begun. The gale still surged ferociously, the shrieks and howls of the shadow beasts echoing all around as they struggled to break through.
Sheer power still surged out of Neveah, Jian could feel his veins charging up... like she was feeding him with her own strength through a bond they had only just now discovered they shared.
A bond which was not even merged, yet it was already so powerful.
Jian had never felt as powerful as he did in this moment.
In this moment, Jian felt... no, he knew he could overturn the world, hand in hand with his bonded.
And somehow, he knew exactly what to do right at this moment...he knew where he fit in.
Hundreds of oracles had told Jian tales, of how he was the true and greatest King...of how there was no one greater before him and there would be no one as great after.
Jian had never believed them untill this moment, this moment where his jaws parted on instinct to release an earth shaking roar, and a powerful torrent of flames was rained all across the barrier.
Jian’s flames followed the path of the glowing sparks, melding with the glowing light like they were reinforced by it,
On the inner side of the barrier, the golden glow grew even brighter, on the outer side, Jian’s flames roared to life, setting the entire barrier ablaze.
The horrifying shrieks of the shadow beasts grew deafening as every part of the death gale that made contact with the flaming barrier was instantly consumed, swallowed by Jian’s flames.
The flames were on the offence, destroying the gale with ease, and on the other side, the glowing light defended, keeping the barrier strong and reinforced so it was not consumed by the strength of the flames.
The gale stood no chance, the battle was already won... the victor, Light... and Fire.
