Chapter 506: Golden (Ch.507)

Neveah was at a loss on what to say, and there was hardly any time left to contemplate or dissuaded.

How could she dissuade him? King Jian was Dragon King, he was duty bound to protect his people even if his life was required of him.

Beyond his duty, Neveah had always known how deeply King Jian cherished his people. So how could she prevent him from doing exactly what he lived for?

King Jian’s words were brief, but held so much weight, such genuine hope and so much promise that Neveah was not certain what to do with her mind and the mess of thoughts it had become.

And so, when a dozen questions ran through her mind, Neveah could only put one into words.

"Will you...get hurt?" Neveah finally asked, realizing the answer to that question was most important to her at this moment.

Time...they said time would answer all questions, Neveah did not know if this was true but she did know that what she needed to be assured of was that there would be time.

That everything would not be cut short abruptly before she could fully understand it.

Even if she did not even know if this bond was some ruse, or if this bond was a bond she wanted, at the least, Neveah deserved the time to understand ... she deserved the time to make that decision...they both deserved that.

"To promise that I will not, is to make you a promise I might fail to keep... I will not do that." King Jian replied truthfully.

It was dark magic, dragons may have been impervious to its effect on the mind, but that did not mean they could not be physically harmed by it.

Dragons may have been superior to all other races but to dark magic, they too had to battle for their lives...they too had battled for their lives against the dark for centuries.

King Jian was the all powerful dragon king, but ultimately, he was still a man...a man that had already seen so much destruction and death caused by this same dark magic.

"How badly?" Neveah asked slowly.

She had watched Menarx hurt and felt all the strength leave her very being, she had watched Xenon hurt and Neveah had felt her heart stop beating.

Now, just thinking about King Jian harmed, Neveah’s entire world felt like it was crashing down around her.

And it was not just her, but what this man... this dragon meant to the entire stronghold.

He was the strength of the stronghold, the one solid pillar and now he was more...to her, he was more.

"I won’t die, Veah... whatever happens." King Jian assured instead.

Neveah believed him, but she was still unsettled. Her heart churned with such unease that Neveah’s breaths began to come out in short pants as panic clawed at her, sealing off her airway.

They had just flown past the barrier now and Neveah knew it was time, he would leave to save the world while his own fate was uncertain.

’Veah... breathe... breathe..’ King Jian thought to Veah.

’You have to breathe...how can I leave when I am not certain if you are okay?’ King Jian appealed.

’Then do not leave... I am not fine, so do not leave...’ Neveah knew her request was unreasonable.

At any other time, she would put the world first before her own needs, but not now.

’Veah...these people, they are our people... this stronghold, it is our stronghold... And I know you will be fine, because you are Dragon Queen.’ King Jian thought.

With that, he began to make his descent and Neveah knew there was no stopping him, she did not even have the heart to... the people of Dune City were also important.

Her people...her stronghold, her home...

These words replayed in Neveah’s mind over and over again, an unending mantra.

King Jian would never be willing to endanger her by letting her go with him, and Neveah’s mind reeled with a dozen thoughts as she thought of what to do.

If these were her people, if this was her stronghold, if King Jian was hers...then she had to protect it all, she had to protect everything that was hers this time around.

’Omega... hold my hand... the power which is yours, take it!’ That haunting voice emerge, silencing every other thought in Neveah’s mind.

This time, Neveah did not ignore it, or shut it out, or suppress it like she always would.

She did the exact opposite, Neveah opened her heart to it and a surge of power unlike anything awakened within her, rushing through her veins and setting every cell within her body alive.

"Turn back." Neveah thought to King Jian.

’Veah...’ King Jian began to argue but Neveah cut him off.

’Ours you said, so Jian...turn back.’ Neveah insisted.

King Jian somehow felt the seriousness in Neveah’s tone and complied, swerving around just when he was about to land.

Neveah could hear her father’s voice somewhere in the background, screaming for her as King Jian sped for the gale that was just an inch from the barrier itself.

’I will hold your hand...show me what you can do.’ Neveah thought to that haunting voice.

In that moment of acceptance, a surge of power unlike anything Neveah had ever felt before exploded out of her, in a burst of glowing gold light.

Neveah’s entire form was set alight in a bright golden glow, and it encased not just her but King Jian as well.

Like the two were one, Neveah felt his strength and presence even with the silence that dawned on the rest of the world.

King Jian’s speed grew faster, and Neveah rose up till she was standing upright on his back, yet with complete trust that she would not fall.

Neveah stretched a hand out, her eyes gleaming with fury as she unleashed every ounce of power that had gathered within her, sending a blast of golden light as large as a dragon, crashing straight into the gale.
