Chapter 49: Ruthless Alessio (Ch.49)

Neveah awakened feeling extremely well rested and rather refreshed, her eyes fluttered open only to be faced with a worried looking Laila staring down at her.

"By the Creator, Princess! I was so worried!" Laila exclaimed in relief, her voice unnecessarily high pitched.

Neveah blinked in surprise before the events from the past day came rushing back to her and she lifted a hand to her ears.

"The bleeding already stopped last night Princess, it’s such a relief to see you awake." Laila said in a tone of relief.

’Is it, really?’ Neveah thought to herself although her expression remained unchanged and she even permitted a small smile.

She wondered if it would be too harsh to clarify to Laila that she lifted a hand to check her ears due to her loud screaming and not because of the poison at all.

However Neveah decided it was probably for the best she kept that to herself.

"What happened?" Neveah croaked out, her throat feeling dry and hoarse.

Laila quickly fetched Neveah a glass of water and helped her sip from it to soothe her dry throat.

"What happened to you? Or what happened in the Eclipse Palace?" Laila asked for clarification, always eager to relate the latest gossip.

"Uhmmm... I believe both are interrelated." Neveah murmured.

"Well Princess, you’ll never believe this if I said it but we have your Governess to thank for your current predicament and that of the Eclipse Lunas." Laila relayed.

"My Governess, you said?" Neveah asked in a weak tone as she sat up on her bed in the Hall of Omega healers.

Laila nodded as she supported Neveah to a sitting position, her back rested against the wall.

"Yes Princess. She was found to have been growing poisonous herbs by the stream, thereby contaminating the water and harming the Eclipse Lunas."

"She was executed immediately by Prince Alessio." Laila revealed, shaking her head.

Neveah swallowed down her amusement, she had known her Governess’ murder would be easily covered up without her having to lift a finger,

However Neveah had not expected Prince Alessio would actually claim credits for a kill he had not made and was not even certain how it happened.

Neveah guessed this was the only way they could quell the discontent amongst the Eclipse Alphas.

"Oh... how ruthless of him." Neveah murmured, a glint in her eyes as she accepted the herbal tonic prepared for her and downed the bowl without hesitation.

"Hush Princess, you know how Prince Alessio is...do not let him hear you. Prince Alessio only did what he needed to." Laila reprimanded, glancing around.

Neveah quirked a brow, she had never met any of her step mother’s lackeys that was quite like this Laila.

"My Governess and I may not have gotten along well, but she has been by my side all my life... I cannot help but feel aggrieved." Neveah murmured with a sigh as she placed the bowl down.

She gazed ahead with a lost expression and even willed her eyes to water for good measure.

"I do understand this must be difficult for you, Princess. But the Governess endangered your life and that of the Eclipse Lunas, her death could not be avoided." Laila reasoned in a comforting tone.

"Indeed...it was inevitable." Neveah murmured to herself as she lay back down on the bed.

"Father summons you." Alessio said in his characteristic chilling cold tone.

Neveah had only been sleeping for a short time when Prince Alessio strode into the hall and headed straight to her bed.

Neveah’s eyes fluttered open slowly and for a moment she just stared up at him, taking in his dark expression and chilling glare which was more like the Alessio she knew.

A small smile settled on Neveah’s face, she had worried Alessio was acting strange when he had taken her to the Hall of the Omega healers and said those words, believing she was unconscious.

However now that the Alessio she was familiar with stood before her eyes, she felt much more at ease.

"Princess Neveah has not completely recovered, it is not advisable she moves yet." An Omega healer tried to explain but fell silent when Alessio passed him a glare.

"No one asked her to move." Alessio said as he leaned down.

"Wait... I can..." Neveah began to protest as Alessio lifted her up into his arms.

Neveah’s hands instinctively went up around his neck to secure her balance as her world was engulfed in his intoxicating scent.

Try as she might, Neveah could not block out his scent or prevent herself from taking in deeper breaths just to keep the delightful scent in for even moment longer.

This mate bond... this loathsome mate bond just would not release it’s hold and while Neveah was confronted with it’s effects, Alessio remained entirely oblivious.

It was not as though anything would change if he did know, the last time he had found it out, he had first tried to forcefully bed Neveah and then he had killed her.

Neveah knew she would be damned this time if she stayed behind in the Eclipse Palace long enough for Alessio to discover that they were mates.

Neveah was only grateful she was not subjected to those electrifying jolts upon skin contact, how would she have lived through this moment being the only one feeling sparks?

"You can...?" Alessio asked with a raised brow when Neveah did not complete her words, his enchanting green orbs lowered to meet hers.

"I can.....walk..." Neveah completed in a low tone knowing it was best to give Alessio an answer than not to give any at all, Alessio hated being ignored the most.

"I did not ask for your opinion because I did not care for it, omega." Alessio clarified in a dark tone, his narrowed gaze daring Neveah to counter him.

Neveah settled for the wise choice and lowered her gaze, keeping whatever other thoughts she had to herself.

"That’s what I thought." Alessio said as he continued on his way, heading out of the Hall of the Omega healers.

"Greetings father." Neveah greeted in a weak tone as Alessio placed her down on her feet.

"Sit...do not stand on ceremony." Alpha King Lothaire permitted as he turned over from where he stood, facing the large balcony in his office. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Neveah sat at her father’s table, keeping a blank expression as she waited for him to speak.

"I hear your Governess has passed on under unfortunate circumstances, it must be hard for you to take in." Alpha King Lothaire said.

"Not particularly, father." Neveah replied with a casual shrug, rolling her eyes when Alessio released a scoff from where he stood behind her.

The Eclipse royal family may be excellent at putting up a facade before the rest of the world but they each knew the next person perfectly well.

Neveah was certain her father knew it well enough that she did not care in the slightest for her Governess’ fate and he would never buy it even if she claimed to.

"But then again...it is you after all. If you had the means, you would sooner kill her yourself than mourn her loss." Alpha King Lothaire said with a dark chuckle.

Neveah did not refute her father’s words but instead kept a blank gaze.

"These past few years has been tasking on you, you should be grateful to Alessio for getting rid of her." Alpha King Lothaire continued.

Neveah’s hands clenched into fists on her lap but her expression still remained blank.

Neveah was certain in the course of the investigation, her father had discovered that her Governess had repeatedly poisoned her.

This was one of her reasons for starting up such a big fire, Neveah was also certain that her father knew it clearly who was behind the Governess.

Yet from his words, he made it pretty clear he did not intend to do anything about it and also warned Neveah to know her place.

The fact that he had particularly highlighted gratitude to Alessio infuriated Neveah, gratitude to the son of the same Alpha Queen who had set the Governess up to poison Neveah?

Her father’s words meant she was not to have any other thoughts or harbor grudges against Alessio and the Alpha Queen, all the blame was to remain with the Governess.

"I understand." Neveah murmured with a mirthless smile.

"The Eclipse Alphas are no longer in the right state of mind, hence I have decided to move the Alphas Summit forward by a year."

"However your brother’s ascension as heir cannot be delayed and is to take place in a fourth night. After which, the Eclipse Alphas shall return to their territories." Alpha King Lothaire relayed to Neveah.

Neveah nodded slowly in understanding before she recalled Alessio was standing right behind her and quickly used her words.

"I understand." Neveah replied as though she had not expected things would turn out in this way when this was precisely what she had planned for.
