Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 48: A Case Resolved ()

Prince Alessio stood before his father and the council of Eclipse Alphas at sun set, after a day of relentless investigation, Prince Alessio had come with his report.

"Alessio, do you have a report on your investigation?" Alpha King Lothaire asked in his deep, domineering baritone.

Alessio frowned slightly, he did have a report on his investigation, it was only that what he had discovered was not one he could actually reveal before the council of Eclipse Alphas.

Alessio only felt it was a great relief he had been put in charge of this investigation, had it been anyone else and the truth was revealed, just how could they explain to the Eclipse Alphas?

"Yes Father, I have my report." Alessio said.

"I knew I could count on you. Let us hear it." Alpha King Lothaire said with an approving nod.

Alessio thought over his findings, before he rearranged the report in his mind, putting aside the true details that would only place the Eclipse Fang in a more difficult position.

"The water source for the palace kitchens was cut off yesterday, hence the main kitchens shut their doors early for the night, just as Veah reported." Alessio began.

"However, the kitchens in the guest palace were yet to prepare the night meal and on orders of Alpha Scrooge, they procured the water for their use from the stream that runs through the Eastern end of the woods."

"This change in the usual water source is the cause of the ailment afflicting the Eclipse Lunas." Alessio revealed.

The Eclipse Alphas broke into murmurings, however their reaction was much calmer since the Eclipse Lunas were all responding to treatment and were reported to display signs of regaining consciousness.

"I was also informed there was a problem with the original water source and I had promised the Eclipse Alphas my Luna would treat them all to her specialty moon cakes."

"During my run a few days ago, I noticed this stream was clear and the water refreshing. I directed the kitchen staff to procure water for the night meal there."

"It was just a stream, was it not? How could the water result in such an ailment?" Alpha Scrooge asked in bafflement.

The Eclipse Alphas nodded in agreement, Alpha Scrooge was one Alpha who was known to be carefree and straightforward in his methods, he was on good terms with everyone.

He had also sought permission from the Alpha King for his mate to be allowed to direct the chefs to prepare her specialty moon cakes and serve the Eclipse Alphas for the night meal.

"I ate an entire bowl full of those little cakes, how am I still fine?" Alpha Varleston asked with a frown.

"I also took a drink from the stream just to be sure and as you all can see, I am perfectly fine. However my female subordinates who drank from the stream have all contacted the ailment like the Eclipse Lunas."

"Equally, my sister’s attendant reports finding a plate of moon cakes in her room." Alessio continued.

"What is the cause of this strange ailment? Have you discovered it?" Alpha King Lothaire asked.

"Yes, father. The Eclipse warriors trailed the stream and realized it runs straight through a herb garden."

"I fear this was not just any herb garden but a patch of land where poisonous herbs which leave fatal effects on our kind are cultivated." Alessio reported.

"It is lucky the only part of the garden that comes in contact with the stream grows a strange herb that is not fatal and only incites the symptoms of bleeding, pain and loss of consciousness."

"Furthermore, it affects only female wolves. A lot of my female subordinates have been sent to the Hall of Omega healers at the end of our investigation." Alessio concluded.

"What?! Who would do such a thing in my palace?!" Alpha King Lothaire snarled furiously.

"The culprit has been convicted of the crime to which she gave her confession. The antidote has been administered to the Eclipse Lunas and a half of them have already regained consciousness."

"On behalf of the Eclipse warriors, I offer my deepest apology to the Eclipse Alphas for this inconvenience." Alessio said with a small bow.

"Not at all. To have gotten to the bottom of this peculiar situation in such a short time, the Eclipse Prince is truly a man amongst men." Alpha Scrooge said in approval.

Clearly he was grateful the blame had not ended up falling on him since his mate had been unknowingly involved in distributing the poison.

"But what is to happen to the culprit behind this? Intentionally or not, she has caused great trouble." Alpha Jason asked.

"Reporting to father, in my anger... I have already killed the she wolf." Alessio said.

"It’s just as well, you did the right thing, Your Grace." Alpha Varleston said in approval.

"In this case, the Eclipse Alphas should all return to your mates, we will meet again to discuss a new date for the Alphas Summit after you are all settled." Alpha King Lothaire ordered.

The Eclipse Alphas took their leave from the throne room and once they had gone far enough that they were out of ear shot, Alpha King Lothaire finally spoke.

"Now...tell me what truly happened." Alpha King Lothaire demanded, his eyes narrowed slightly.

Alessio was not even surprised his father had already caught on to his false report and so he did not hesitate to provide the actual report.

"Everything is as I have said father, only that the culprit in question is not just an unknown she wolf but Neveah’s Governess." Alessio reported in a grim tone.

"What?! Why would a Governess grow a garden of poisonous herbs in my palace?!" Alpha King Lothaire asked in bafflement.

"Under my mother’s orders." Alessio said with a sigh.

Alpha King Lothaire fell quiet for a moment, his gaze darkening slightly.

"These poisonous herbs...they have been used on Neveah, haven’t they?" Alpha King Lothaire asked knowingly.

"Multiple times...as well as many others." Alessio reported.

"And here I was thinking she would finally stop making attempts on Neveah’s life, I guess I expected too much." Alpha King Lothaire said with a huff.

However despite his annoyed tone, he did not look awfully bothered by the revelation Alessio had just made.

"The Governess...you killed her?" Alpha King Lothaire asked and Alessio shook his head.

"No father... she was already dead when she was found." Alessio reported.

This was the only part of the case that still baffled Alessio even till this moment, just who had killed the Governess in her hospital bed?

Alessio suspected it could have been someone sent by his mother, perhaps hoping to tie up loose ends by silencing the Governess who knew about all the people she had gotten rid of with poison.

However at the same time, there was still a possibility that this had nothing to do with his mother, in which case Alessio had to wonder, just who had so viciously slit the Governess’ throat?

"Don’t give me that look, we both know it’s certainly your mother." Alpha King Lothaire said with a roll of his eyes as he sat down on his throne.

"I will speak to her." Alessio said, knowing his father was displeased at his mother’s unruly actions that had nearly resulted in great trouble for the Eclipse Fang.

"Just leave it be. it’s just the life of one she wolf, nothing too special. Make sure to tie up all loose ends, you killed the Governess and that is all anyone needs to know."

"This situation is too annoying, I never want it mentioned again after today and by the creator, destroy that herb garden till nothing is left of it and have the stream purified." Alpha King Lothaire ordered.

"I understand, father." Alessio said with a bow.

"What am I to do about Omega?" Alessio asked as an afterthought.

Other than the Governess, Neveah was the only other person who knew about the involvement of the Alpha Queen with poisoning and if she got any ideas, it would not bode well for the Eclipse Fang.

"Neveah... Alessio, your sister’s name is Neveah." Alpha King Lothaire corrected.

Alessio scoffed beneath his breath at his father’s reprimand.

"If Neveah has said nothing of being poisoned till now, she will say nothing going forward. Just to make certain, I will take a step back this time." Alpha King Lothaire decided.

"When father says ’take a step back’..." Alessio trailed off suspiciously.

"Dane requested to take Neveah with him to the Eclipse Hunt, I intend to allow it." Alpha King Lothaire decided.

"But father!" Alessio protested only to be fixed with a glare from his father.

"To keep the people around you restrained, you have to know when to stop Alessio... when to provide a false sense of security."

"If you push too hard and leave them with no hope at all, they will lash out... that is your mistake Alessio. You will be King in time... watch and learn." Alpha King Lothaire said in a firm tone
